Stopping by and hoping he is feeling better??

Hey Chrissyk..How's Houdini feeling?

I don't want to jinx anything, but the stitches are out, the collar is off, and he's napping peacefully right now :) What a difference 2 weeks makes. I hope for the same recover for little Herbie :flower:

From your mouth to God's ears Chrissyk! Good for you and your furbaby and now we will send prayers up for little Herbie :grouphug:

******UPDATE**********

Sorry it took me a while to get back. I been napping off and on today.
I did talk to the emergency vet this evening. Here is the latest update:

He is more awake, he is eating, like a little piggy according to the vet.
He is being loving to the vet/vet techs. He is even off the IV.
The only concern she has is he is not using the litterbox, he is dribbing here and there.
So she feels better if he stays another night, which is OK by me because I feel better if he stays another night too.

I asked her if she thinks Herbie will survive this. She feels yes, BUT it is too soon to tell if he will be a 'special needs' cat.

ChrissyK according to the surgeron and the bill Herbie had a Perineal Urethrostomy.

Anyway that is the latest. Although Herbie is doing good for the most part, it still reminds to be see how the surgery took and how he heals.
Keep that pixie dust coming!!!!!

THANKYOU!!!!!!!

Sending happy thoughts and best wishes to Herbie.

Truckfulls of Pixie dust heading your way!!

Lots of hugs and cuddles to Herbie.

Tomorrow is another day...and things are looking brighter!

Thank you for keeping us updated, you'd think we all owned little Herbie! Glad to hear he is eating too!

I think that I can put your mind at ease :) Our cat "dribbled" for over a day after the surgery. That's totally common with both the perineal urethrostomy and with the prepubic urethrostomy, though. Herbie is in an even better position, because with the Perineal Urethrostomy they save more of the urethra. The more urethra, the higher the chance that the cat will be continent after the surgery (according to our surgeon). DH and I were so worried that our cat was going to be incontinent. He also refused to go in the litterbox at the surgeon, and he even used it as a bed instead of as a potty

We also wanted our cat to stay at the surgeon, because we were SO nervous about bringing him home. 2 days after the surgery, the surgeon called and said that I had to come pick him up. He was "depressed," he wasn't using the litterbox, and he would do better at home. Well, she was right! He got home and was continent right off the bat :) I guess it's common for cats not to use the litterbox at the vet! Don't be scared to get Herbie even if it seems to be very soon after the surgery. Animals really do heal better at home.

When you get Herbie home, just make sure that he wears his Elizabethan collar as perscribed. Our cat "self traumatized" the urethrostomy site by over-grooming, and we're STILL trying to get the skin to heal up totally now.

HERBIE IS COMING HOME!!!!!!! :cool1:

The vet of the hospital called me today and said he is ready to go home. He had a really good night. He even used the litterbox a few times, although he is still dribbling a couple times.

I need to run up to the store first and get some puppy pads (for the dribbling) and some soft foods, he has to be on a soft food diet for now.

She told me he should be confined to a small room for a few days. He also has to stay away from our other cat for at least 10 days so the other cat doesn't try to 'clean his incision site". He has to have his 'collar' on for 10 days too. Luckily I have a spare room that doesn't have any furniture in it, we just use it to store 'junk' so we straightened it out and have a fluffy pet bed and a litterbox (with newspaper) in there. Not sure if Herbie will like being in there all the time. We definitely will spend a lot of time in there too! I hope he doesn't cry in there too much.

I am a little scared of seeing him. He looked so awful the other morning after surgery.
Yet I am going to be happy to have him back home :)

THANK YOU so much for ALL the prayers/thoughts/pixie dust over the past few days. I was SOOOOO scared I was going to lose him. My emotions have been on a roller coaster ride!

That's such good news!!

Keep us posted in the days ahead and know we are all here thinking of you both!

If only we were all close by you and Herbie would have soooo many extra hands and cuddles!! (Maybe it's good we don't?? haha)

Better days ahead!

So glad he is coming home!! :Pinkbounc Poor kitty has been through so much! He is SOOOO lucky to have you!

So glad he made it alright. Hope he makes a fully recovery quickly.

Herbie is lucky to have you! I hope everything continues to go well. :flower:

That's great news!! I think that he'll stop "dribbling" in no time, especially because he's definitely continent and able to use the litterbox :)

As for the collar...make sure that he can't reach his own incision site with it on. Our cat could with the 1st collar, and we didn't realize it right off the bat. I'm sure that Herbie will be back to normal in no time :goodvibes

They also told us that our cat needed to be on wet food only from now on. We mix extra water into it too. That keeps the bladder "flushed" and helps to prevent UTIs.

That is wonderful news that Herbie is much better and coming home! I am sure he will get lots of love and attention as he recuperates. Best wishes. :goodvibes

What great news! So glad Herbie is coming home.......please keep us posted in the days ahead.

HERBIE'S HOME!!!!!!

He has been home now for about 5 hrs and we are so glad he is back!!!
He is doing pretty good. He hates his medicine and he really hates his 'collar'. He is suppose to wear it for 10-14 days, it's going to be a long two weeks. He REALLY HATES it on!!!

I was so relieved when I saw him. Seriously just a few days ago I didn't think I would see him alive again. When I did see him this afternoon I lost it. I cried tears of relief.
I just wanted to pick him up and never let him go.
I can't believe he is still here after all he has been through.

Please continue to keep him in your thoughts as he continues to heal from his surgery. Please pray that the surgery was successful and he won't have any complications.

I don't know what the long term future holds for Herbie but one thing is for sure, he will be loved every second!!!!!!

THANK YOU again for all the support. I know Herbie had a lot of people rooting for him.

ChrissyK....he hasn't used the litterbox yet. He has had a couple of dribbles though. Does this seem normal? You think he will go back to the litterbox soon? I am hoping overnight he uses it. ALthough he loves to PLAY with the shredded newspaper in the box!!! He difinetly is as playful as ever.
His regular vet does want me to bring him on Tuesday so she can look him over and find out how he is doing/healing. The incision just looks so painful!!! Poor baby!!!!
When exactly did your cat have his surgery?

So glad to hear he's home! May he continue on the road to recovery quickly! :grouphug:
