This morning I had 2 emails from paypal, first that my account had been charged 10 Euros for a Skype account, the second was a refund. Now this whole things was unauthorized. I have never even visited the Skype site. So I see that Paypal withdrew the funds needed from my checking account, which caused it to overdraft. So I called and the first 3, yes 3 people said Paypal doesn't refund bank fees. Now I feel like I should mention that the first 3 people had the same foreign accent, so I assumed they were in an overseas call center. Finally I got Todd, who sounded American. He was mysteriously able to refund the charge. So 32 minutes later it was resolved, but I hope others don't give up, it will pay to keep asking for a supervisor. And I was very nice, so that might have helped too.

sorry this happened to you. i am glad you got this resolved. i have had to persistent about some stuff too, and it finally paid off:thumbsup2

Wow, I had the exact same thing happen to my Paypal account last month, except it was $10 not 10 Euros. Paypal tapped my checking account for the funds as well. After speaking to several very unhelpful reps, including one who insisted that I must have authorized the charge and had forgotten about it (as if!), I finally got to a supervisor who listened to my issue. He opened a fraud investigation and made arrangements to immediately transfer the $10 back to my checking account. Luckily, I wasn't overdrawn so I didn't have any overdraft fees to worry about.

Glad to see you got everything refunded. I guess pleasant persistence gets results.

I had something similar happen to me several months ago, except instead of $10 it was over $600 pulled from my checking account. I panicked when I saw it, called the bank and filled out an unauthorized draft form or something like that stating I never authorized it and stating that no withdrawal from paypal is ever authorized from my account in the future. That part may have been a bit extreme but when you see over $600 disappear from your account for something you didn't purchase it freaks you out.

Apparently somebody hacked into my paypal account and purchased a laptop. I refuse to use paypal anymore for that reason.

A similar thing has happened to me from the bank that hold the installment loan for my vehicle, they double charged my account for my February payment and caused my bank to overdraft me. After calling and getting someone who was obviously at the lower level of the ladder and, by the way she talked to me, will be there her entire life, I hung up and called back and got someone else in a different department that was able to help, sounded educated and even said she was going to find out in my records who I had spoken with previously (she wouldn't give me her name and there are so many call centers that it could be anyone since they usually only give you their first name) by the employee #'s they are assigned when they enter inquiries and report her. If there is one thing I can not tolerate it's someone in a service position that thinks they can do as they please because essentially you are helpless without their assistance. But all it takes is persistence on the customers part to get things resolved.

And this is WHY Paypal will NEVER have access to my bank account! I am sorry but... they don't have adequte controls IMHO.

Same thing happened to my DH and we were hit with $440 over draft charges from that bank. It took several days with PP and the bank to get it straighten out and then the very next day after changing our pass word and updating our security with PP. Nothing worked. The bank final waved the overdraft fees. And we had to close our PP account. We won't use PP ever again, because they can't stop this from happening again.

What kills me is the fact that it was such a small amount. The account that they withdrew from is separate from our regular account. As a matter of fact its not even with the same bank. Having worked in fraud at a bank I only use this one for online transactions. Never our regular accounts. (I'm a little paranoid;)) All I can say is I am glad they gave me the overdraft back.
