Perimenopause is making me INSANE!

I am 46 years old and have been having major symptoms the last 6 months. My cycle is erratic and goes from every 21 days to every 5 weeks. It's been every 21 days 4 of the last 6 months. I can't believe I am getting it more frequently now!

I'm having problems with being either hot or cold all the time. I have to dress in layers everywhere I go.

I have a history of anxiety and PMDD, and they have both become much worse. I believe it's to the point that I need to get back on medication.

The night sweats have also been horrible, especially this past week. Every day I wake up drenched in sweat and feel disgusting. Is there anything I can do about these night sweats?

I'm seeing my doctor next month and asking him to check my hormone levels. I need to figure out if I will go back on birth control or what else I can do to alleviate these symptoms.

I have gotten back to doing some aerobic activity every day but I need to do more to manage these symptoms.

Sending hugs to everyone going through these horrible symptoms of perimenopause.

Holy mood swings this past week. :scared1: :rolleyes1

It was like my anxiety meds just stopped working. Poor DH. I'm sure he was just as confused as I was.

For me its been the crazy dreams lately. They interrupt my sleep and make me crazy! Ah the joys...

Thought I would update so others are not as stupid as I was.

I am perimenopausal. I have been breaking through during the middle of my cycle and thought is was par for the course. Went for my yearly.

NOTE: My insurance will only pay for a pap every 2 years. If I had not gone I would not have found out I have a problem. Please make an educated decision. I wrote letters to try to get this back to every year if you have a problem.

Okay, pap came back normal, but I had an ultrasound. I have Polyps and a Mass. Had a biopsy. Came back normal, but Dr. noted the correct cells can not be guaranteed.

Today I went for a hysterosonogram. It was not pleasant but confirmed the polyps. (yes I have more than one).

I am still awaiting the doctors call for the next step.

I wanted to post this because just because we are perimenopausal, if you feel something is off don't feel silly asking. I am still quite scared and wish it would be over soon. The "C" word has been whispered a lot lately and my nerves are a bit on the "crazy" side.

Hope everyone else is doing well. I think of you all and this thread often.

 So sorry to hear you're going through this, Tinker. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and be sure to update as soon as you know anything.

you just reminded me. I never had an annual appt last year with ob/gyn. :confused3 No card from them to make appt.

Maybe its an insurance thing. Age thing? First time I've not had to go in yearly.

I did have mammogram though.

I think I better check to see if I missed an appointment. Or when next one should be.

I'm 57 and my Dr has said the new guidelines are to have a PAP every 2 years now after a certain age when there is no history of abnormal results. Fine with me!

I am bumping this up to check in with the other Hot Mamas ... I'm sitting here sweating as I type this. :bitelip: My heat is set on 67. :teeth:

I ended up going to my gyn to find out if this really is peri or what. HE asked me a series of questions. As soon as I answered "yes" to depression/anxiety (which I've had for years and years BTW), he scribbled something on a prescription pad and said, "This should take care of everything for you," while patting me on the back ushering me out the door.

It was a prescription for anti-depressants! :furious:

I did not take them. I was so angry that I was given the brush-off like that, with no confirmation of any diagnosis or anything else for that matter. I'm now in the search for a good, FEMALE gyn who will (hopefully) actually listen to what I have to say. I will turn 40 a little over a week from now.

How is everyone else doing? :grouphug:

I had the same experience for about 5 years running. Female doctors aren't any better. In fact one didn't have time to take a family history and my mother had breast cancer! I was lucky enough to find a certified menopausal specialist. After I found him, my perimenopause was a breeze.

Has anyone here heard of A brand name ( not sure if I can name it here ) Essential oils, I am using them and it has made a big difference for me. Message me if you have questions.

My body has lost all ability to regulate my temperature and it is making me nuts! Yesterday, I was so cold that I actually turned on my little heater for a bit. Today, all I did was roll the garbage can to the curb in 70 degree weather and I was sweating like crazy. ARGH!

Have any of my DIS ladies taken a soy supplement that helped with the symptoms/side effects?

Thanks from a desperate woman...

I tried *yam cream*. What a waste of time and $$'s. I then decided I would go the HRT route and it was great! I took the lowest dosage that my gyn thought would work, and it did. Still had some problems, but not near what they would have been. Well worth it, no matter what you read about all the scare articles. :thumbsup2

Came back to update you and again remind everyone that while we are all going through changes, if you feel off, tell your physician.

I got the results of my test today. I have a 2cm x 2cm polyp, a fibroid (didn't ask the size) and cysts.

I have surgery on April 15th. to remove what he can and for a D&C. My wall lining is still "too thick" and hopefully this will help that.

They will do all this and then take biopsies. Hopefully all will come back okay. If not the next step is a hysterectomy and whatever is needed based on what they find.

Needless to say, I have another few more weeks of not sleeping well and you know all that worrying. No matter how I try, I just can't seem to get back to any type of normal right now. Hormone levels are way off so I get this.

I really just want everyone to know while my case is not the usual, if you feel like something is not normal, make sure to follow up.

I just can't say it enough.

Hope everyone is doing well. Also the doctor again reminded me that during season changes our hormones are all a "flutter". Make sure to take a walk outside as many days a week as you can. It does help a lot. No drugs or supplements needed, and it is a simple help.

Thank you for the update, Tinker. I know it's hard (and easy for me to say), but try not to worry until you know for sure there's something to be worried about. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and hope everything goes well for you next month.

Dropped in for a read and I hear ya'. Normal, wth is that? I have been bleeding for the last month.

I know I have cysts. :rolleyes1 So anyway I made an appt. with my internist for Monday to discuss things.

It is really just mind blowing.

My sister OTOH is going to be seeing a specialist. My mother was given an anti miscarriage drug in 1968 which caused club foot and reproductive deformities in my sister. (Sister did not learn about this drug being the cause of reproductive issues until LAST YEAR!!!) She is actually getting WORSE with her symptoms at her age of 44 with her reproductive/female system as a result of the this drug.

So anyway, sorry to be a downer but you never know at our age what those doctors gave our mothers when they were pregnant to cause issues with us at our age.

Kelnick you aren't selling us. You are just telling us what helped you.

I use doTerra. Which oils are you using/where/how and how is it helping.

I bought some to try and then just haven't done it.

I hear you ladies! I don't know why but the hot flashes have stopped momentarily. The only thing I have done differently is I have been taking Omega 3 Vit. I don't care I'm just so thankful!

Embarrassing when it is snowing outside and you think it feels great!

Also I hadn't had a period in 3 months and then all of a sudden Bam...the worst I've EVER had! EVER! Sorry I can't really talk with anyone around me to complain so why not to strangers! Thanks!

Tinker'n'fun, thank you for the heads up and the info. I'm not impressed by my current ob/gyn practice, and am going to ask for a second opinion from another practice next week, after Easter stuff is done. Current doctor says to track my periods, and call if something is off.

So something is off (early period, very light flow, etc) and she says she's fine with it, and call her if it lasts more than 10 days. Well, I'm not fine with it, I'd like a blood test, or ultrasound, or something, to have things checked before I agree that it is peri-menopause. While I have a few symptoms on the checklist, I also have one that doesn't show up on the list - abdominal pain on one side. It's not sitting right with me, so I will keep pushing to have it checked thoroughly.

BTW, I'm 49. I'm so ready to have all these parts removed anyways, I'm not using them ever again! They can leave one ovary for hormones, and take the other stuff out.

Thanks for all the kinds words. I am really glad everyone who feels off is getting tested. I waited about 8 months before I went in.

So I went to my GP today to just talk and ask him if he felt that my Gyno was doing things in an order her felt was normal.

He said he was "very" concerned with the test results, begged me not to cancel or reschedule anything and gave me a big hug. Scared me to death. He is a wonderful doctor and a great man and I guess the results are far from normal.

I asked for copies of the tests, googled a few terms, had a good cry and then slept from 2pm to until now 1:30am. DH just checked on me and said he was glad I slept away some of the stress.

My GP said the weight gain has been off for the last 4 months and that may go along with the hormones or just because of depression of what I am dealing with.

So while waiting for a RX at Walmart I purchased a lot of nice fresh veggies and fruits and will start again tomorrow to get some of the weight off. If not at least I will be eating well for a few weeks prior to the surgery, with Easter Day being my only cheat day.

I would love some suggestions on what type of eating is working for anyone during the peri stage. I am going to do a high fruit/veggie combo, add a protein in for the day, and keep my carbs at 100 - 125grams. I don't do much exercise do to Fibro, but the GP said to push 1 - 5 miles per day in. With just walking he said no need for a day off. But I am open to any suggestions.

You are all in my thoughts/prayers whichever you feel comfortable with.

I was just to my GP yesterday and I haven't had my period since November. He gave me paperwork for blood test to check for menopause. He told me I was young to start - I will be 47 in a couple of months. My response to him was I was 11 when I started so it is about time it is gone. He also requested I have a bone density test when I have my Mamo this year because of my age and calcium deficiency and being short. We will see. I see the GYN in May so we will see what he has to say but last I knew he wasn't worried about it.

I am watching my sat. fat. So far just doing that has had me lose weight. In addition giving up ALL soda had me drop lbs right away.

On Monday I am going to see my internist and insist on a blood test for anemia and discuss things. The OBGYNs blow you off, you know?:headache:

I am also in PT for my feet, yea me. I can't even exercise how I want either.:badpc:

That being said, JUST KEEP SWIMMING! As long as you are moving forward all will be well.:hug::hug:
