My husband is concerned after all of my effort to collect and shine all my pennies pre1982 that the machines will only take American pennies. I will be using American quarters for the machines , but has anyone had any problems pressing their Canadian pennies ?

they will take any and all pennies. Have fun!!! Pressed pennies was one of the best things for my kids in the parks, it really curbed the "I wanna"s.

Are there several places to press pennies there? I know my kids will love this esp if they can get different images etc.

Here's a link to a web site that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about where all the penny pressed are located at WDW...

Thanx alot for the info! .... I never thought there would be so many choices.... I guess I'll have to give them each a roll of pennies!!

We pressed pennies everywhere and it was great fun for the kids! One note though, we found that the American pennies came out much better than the Canadian ones. There was a slight difference in size and sometimes the Canadian pennies cut the design off a little. They are still OK but not quite as good as the American ones. Have fun!! :earsboy:

I'm curious about how you guys go about getting the US coins. I know I did only a few when I was down my first time and we only had a handful of quarters and pennies to do this with. Do you get them before you go? Will the bank give you a roll? Or do you just save everyone you get along the way? Thanks!

We have used CDN pennies in them but they don't seem to turn out nearly as well as the american pennies especially if you are using the older pennis with the edges on them. The round ones work the best but for some reason not as well as the yank pennies.

Adora, my dh travels in the US all the time so I just steal his quarters. ;)
But just taking them out of everyday change gets me about $10 each year in quarters. I save all US coins for toll booths, etc. since we go to NY 1-2 times per year and needing change is always a hassle.

You can also ask for change for the penny press machines in the stores at Disney. They have always cheerfully traded me bills for coins so that I could press my pennies. :teeth:

Here is a neat pressed penny trick that I learned early from the DIS board:

Use the tubes that the M&M mini candies come in and place 2 quarters then 1 pennie, 2 quarters 1 pennie....in that order.

My two children will each get a M&M Tube ready for their pressed penny hunt in their Christmas stockings this year.

This will make it nice and easy so we are not scrambling for change...will have the tubes ready and in the backpack!

We were collecting the pennies during our trip, and I thought I'd be smart and get a bunch of quarters which I kept in my little change purse. We ended up not using the last bunch, and I created quite a stir :earseek: at the airport when my purse went through the x-ray thing. A round metal object was spotted inside my purse and I was pulled aside and put through the paces. I couldn't think of what was causing the problem until my husband reminded me about the coins. I had to show them it was just my round change purse full to the brim. I'll never make that mistake again! On the other hand, I have lots of quarters ready for our next trip! :rotfl2:

Also invest in a Pressed Penny book - available at most shops at Disney.

Once you press the penny, put in the book.

I agree about the pressed penny book. It makes it so simple to keep track of what you already have. We kind of sorted ours in the book by which park or land we were in, that way it was easy to see if we had a certain one or not.

Hey ! The Quality Of The Coin Will Result In The Quality Of How The Pressed Coin Turns Out. Canadian Coins Are Not Of Good Quality Unless You Have A 15 Or 20 Year Old Penney. The Us Coins Have More Copper In Them Like They Should. They May Be 100 % Copper Or At Least Close To It. I Heard This While I Was Down There Years Ago. My Daughter Has So Many Of Them Canadian Included But They Seem To Get Smeared With An Aluminum Looking Metal. Not Good Looking At All Compared To The Us Coins. The Same Goes For The Nickal, Dime And Quarter.
