I see on the lists for penny presses from www.liss.olm.net have pennies running horizontal and vertical. My question is what do the books hold? Are there so many for each direction? Or just hold one type? Thanks for any information you can give me. I know that they hold 36 pennies and 6 quarters. Trying to pick out some from the lists. Thanks again!

The books hold all of the pennies vertical. I think most of the penny press machines are vertical, too. I think we only have a few horizontal pennies.

hmm, wish I knew there was a list of penny presses at WDW....I could have used it. My son came home with about 30 of them. I got a great tip off the board here (can't remember from who) about putting the coins needed for the penny presses in containers. So before we left my 5 yo and I put into film canisters 2 quarters and a penny, stacked to the top. He took 2 filled and used most. This made it really easy so that we didn't have to dig for change when we found a machine. He carried the change and the book in his fanny pack.

Regarding "which pennies are best to use?", I read that Pre-1982 pennines have a higher copper content , and press better! I'm going to try that this year.

This sounds like a great idea. I know my two kids would love to have something to collect. Where do I find these books to store the pennies in after they are pressed? Thanks for your help. Laura

i think you can get them at basically any store at the theme parks or at the resorts! someone correct me if i am wrong?:) :bounce:

Some hobby stores carry the pressed penny books. Several of the shops at WDW also have them (usually around pennie machines)

There is a link here on the DIS with a list of the pressed penny machines. It is a nice *fairly* inexpensive collectible. AND they can be found many places other than WDW so they really make a nice souvenier.

Does anybody know what to use to make the pre-82 pennies shiny? I know that tomato sauce will take off the tarnish but it was a dull clean. Thanks.

I think I'm gonna do this with my DD Megan this trip. Sounds like fun!

So I need to rustle up some pre-1982 shiny pennies? Do I have this right?
