Pengin and Princess storm the castle! The Final Chapter!-O'Hana, Lost & Found, & DTD

Oh, Lynda! I'm so glad you were able to get back to Epcot! Those photos
are truly amazing! And I think the perspective of the wheelchair did not
detract from anything at all! (In fact, I thought the Lights of Winter looked
way cooler from that angle!)

I've had to tour Disney in a wheelchair before, and it wasn't fun for the
friend who had to push me. ;) I was able to get one from BWI for the
length of my stay, and it was handy to have entering and leaving the parks!

Here's hoping the rest of the report has some pixie dust.

Nothing worse than hearing the "POP" of your ankle when you go down. :sad2: I have done that and the been on crutches for a week to recover! Hopefully your recovery was much quicker!

 Can't wait until the next installment!

Thank you so much! :) I would have had many more photos from that night if I had been able to stand up. All of them were taken from my wheelchair. :rotfl:
Those photos turned out great...from the wheelchair and all. If you don't mind me asking...what sort of camera are you using (I would like to get better at taking pictures...the first step might just be a new camera)? HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And I will be popcorn:: waiting for an update! Sadly, I am coming to the very end of my own trip report (long over do, I have been working on it for the past two months...) and reading other trip reports...especially good ones like yours is keeping me going until our next Disney trip!

Thanks so much! :) I have 2 Canon digital SLRs. The one I used on this trip was the 30D. I also have the Rebel XT. Both are great cameras! I got the XT in April of '05 and learned a lot while using it. After realizing I wanted to pursue photography more seriously, I got the 30D to add to the collection. This was my first trip using it. The new Rebel XTi is on my wish list too (I want to do more weddings, and it helps to have multiple camera bodies.) and sounds like a super camera to learn about SLRs with. I have 3 lenses for my cameras, and the ones I used on the trip were a 28-135mm Canon (for regular and close-up shots) and a 10-22mm Canon (for wide angle shots). You can do a lot with a point and shoot camera too. I just love my dSLR's, and they can do so much. I love the photography board here on Dis! I have learned a lot there as well. If you are looking for advice on what camera/equipment to buy, how to take a particular kind of shot, or if you want to show off some photos you've taken, the photography board here is great! I learned a lot about shooting fireworks there, and you will soon be seeing the results of that. ;)

I need to read your trippie too! I have sooooooo much TR reading (and writing) to do! Thanks so much for sticking with me here and for the kind words! :goodvibes I keep thinking that by the time I finish this TR, it will almost be time to go again. We are in the process of deciding on ADRs for the next trip already! :scared1: So, now I am wondering...should I do another trippie or not??? Hmmmmmmm...:rolleyes1

Um...the answer to your last question is very simple...YES!!! And join me in starting a pretrip report! I started mine last night. We are in the process of starting out vacation making choices for 2007. Hard to figure out. FUN to dream about it all! I have given myself 2 weeks...by that time I will have to have made a decision.

KEEP YOUR REPORT COMING!! I am LOVING your photos! You are a very talented photographer. One day I will have the time to take on photography as a "real" hobby...for now...I will drool over other people's good pictures!

Last but not least, thanks for the info on the cameras. I wrote it all down in my "Wishbook" (a notebook full of things I want to buy or do or learn).

THANKS! I cannot wait to hear more and hopefully a healed ankle will be part of the story!

No new installment?!?

I came back over to check it out ......nothin'! :sad1:

I know you are on the PEEPS board, but please finish!

I NEED MORE!!! :rolleyes1

I am sorry it took so long to get this installment up! I have had a LOT going on lately, but I have been so anxious to get this installment posted, and here it is! :yay:

I can’t believe I forgot to mention it in the last installment, but I will tell you now! DH is the one who sets and turns off the alarm in the morning at home. He is also the one who sets the wake-up calls and answers them when we are at a hotel. (I’m a heavy sleeper.) At Disney, I like to hear the wake-up calls. I mean, hel-lo! On our last trip, I missed most, if not all, of them. On Sunday morning, DH held the phone in the air in between us, and I heard the BEST wake-up call ever – Mickey AND Stitch! My faves! Oh yeah! If it hadn’t been for that darn ankle, I would have jumped out of bed and done a happy dance. :woohoo:

It's Monday and our first MK day. We wake up. The ankle feels better than the night before, but not by much. I very carefully get ready. I had to go sit on the sofa to do my makeup because I just couldn’t stand at the mirror anymore. I wouldn’t be walking around MK today. I could tell that. :guilty: DH gets up, and I ask him to please call the front desk so we can get a wheelchair. I don’t even want to think about the walk to the bus stop and then up to the gates of the park. :scared: I told DH I would be able to walk onto the buses, and we could fold the wheelchair and carry it on. He called, explained the situation and got them to send someone to the room with the wheelchair. Awesome! :cool1: We were on our way now. When we arrived at MK, I realized that DH was going to have to wheel us down the hill under the monorail track and back up again. His hands were already hurting from last night. We saw some people ahead of us try to use the entrance before you go down the hill that is manned by security. The security officer yelled to them before they got all the way over there that they had to go on…the entrance was for wheelchairs only! That saved DH some work! :thumbsup2 We stopped to get a locker for the tripod bag and learned that the tripod had to come out of the bag in order to fit it all in the locker. We entered the park and decided to do some shopping on Main Street. So, down one side of the street we went. DH accosted CMs for pins along the way. We turned in some quests at VMK central so I could get some snazzy items for my character in VMK. We arrived at the bakery. Breakfast! :cheer2: I got the cheese danish, and DH got the cherry danish, and we got the apple compote to share. The indoor seating was full, so DH wheeled me outside, and it started to rain. He tucked me under the awning (Facing the wall! Thanks a lot!:rotfl: ) and went back to get napkins and forks. When he returned, he sat on the ground while we ate there on Main Street. The rain wasn’t too heavy, and we decided to shop the other side of Main Street to see if it might stop while we were indoors. As DH was making a purchase at the last shop, I wheeled myself over to the door to look. No such luck. Still raining. But by the time he was done, it had let up, so we made a break for the castle, Josh pushing me along - quickly! We arrived and entered one of my favorite stores in the Magic Kingdom - King's Gallery. Hello! It’s in the castle! I renewed my Walt Disney Collector’s Society membership, and we purchased our Cinderella Ink and Paint. We looked at a POC painting of the Black Pearl. The ship’s reflection in the painting looked like a skull, and a CM informed us that there were a couple of things hidden in the clouds above the ship. We looked and looked and couldn’t find anything. Finally, the CM had to point out to us what was there. THEN we saw it.

After leaving the castle, we went to check the time on Philharmagic. 5 min wait – we are so there! :thumbsup2 And we got sent to a separate waiting area because of the wheelchair. Once the doors opened Josh wheeled me into the back row next to a regular chair and took a seat himself. Now, I am enjoying the fact that my feet aren’t tired, but once again, the booty is! But that’s OK. This is one of my favorite attractions in all of the World! It is definitely DH’s and my collective favorite. And the CM that was giving instructions was comical. I believe he told parents to take small children by the hair when leaving the theater. :rotfl: It was a little repetitive the second time around, as we were leaving, but at least the guy was enjoying his job and trying to be a little entertaining, which I always appreciate. After we left, we grabbed fastpasses for Peter Pan. This is my favorite Fantasyland dark ride! :goodvibes I love it. I think it’s the “flying” boats that you get to ride in. That, and I adore the flying over London scene! So, with fastpasses in hand, we headed over to Pinocchio’s Village Haus for a little lunch and a break. I waited at the table while DH went to get our food. We got to sit in the room that overlooks It’s a Small World. This was our first time eating here, and DH didn’t even realize that it had a view of IASW, which he thought was nifty. It took a loooooooong time for DH to get back with the food (long lines – thanks honey! ). It probably felt longer than it really was because now my rear was really hurting:scared: , and I wanted to move to the seating at the table itself. Eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore and moved myself over. He finally arrived! We both had the turkey paninis, and mmmmmm, were those tasty! :thumbsup2 We shared part of our table with a grandma and one of her adorable twin granddaughters. (The rest of her party was at another table.)

Following lunch, we headed over to see if we could get onto Pirates without a ridiculous wait. Lo and behold! Captain Sparrow and what’s-his-face were outside putting on a little show. We watched for a bit.
122631013-M.jpg

The wait for the ride was 20 minutes. We noticed a lot of wheelchairs parked outside the ride. There was no way I was going to stand for that long, so DH told a CM near the wheelchairs that we wanted to ride, and I could transfer over to the ride from the wheelchair, but that I wanted to have it while waiting in line, and he asked if that was possible. He said to ask the “pirate” over there and pointed at another CM. We approached said “pirate”, and DH asked him. This CM was INTO his job! He responded in character with a pirate voice that was barely understandable. He said that we had to switch wheelchairs and take a MK wheelchair through the line while ours was parked out here waiting for us. Makes sense. Well, it did after we asked him to repeat himself a few times. :rotfl: We switched chairs, the pirate parked ours, and DH tells him to lock it. (The hotel had requested that we lock it whenever it was out of our sight.) We waited maybe 15 minutes in line, and I transferred successfully over to the boat! I had been a little nervous about this part, but it went smoothly, and I was psyched! This is one of my favorite attractions in MK as well. (I can never decide between this and HM.) And this is the first time I have seen it since the changes have been made. I was also a little nervous about said changes. I had actually been nervous about the changes ever since I heard they were being made. I adore this ride, and its origin goes back to the days of Walt! (I LOVE Walt!) Our local friend has assured me that it is all good. (I called her right after we saw Davy Jones Locker to tell her, and she informed me that she had just ridden the ride. What a brat! :p ) So, we embark on our journey into the Caribbean and pirate territory. I have to hold in my mini screams on the drop so as not to freak out DH. (Remember, doesn’t like thrill rides? Yes, it is that intense.) Then comes the…what? You thought I was going to tell you? No, no, no! No spoilers here. I’m sure there are plenty of places those can be found if you are interested, but I will not be responsible for spoiling the new ride for anyone. I will say this…It Rocked! I still love it, and the new stuff is both very well done and fits in well with the feeling of the ride. I was very pleased. And when we got off the ride, I rode the conveyer belt up the little hill and WALKED through the gift shop and back to the wheelchair parking. It wasn’t graceful, and it wasn’t speedy, but I was walking – well, limping. But it felt good to not be sitting on my bum and moving it instead. Then I had a mini panic attack because the pirate was no where in sight and DH had told him to lock the chair, and we hadn’t waited to get the key! Fortunately, the pirate had left the key in the lock. Aye matey! Ye be a good pirate. I used the wheelchair as a walker to get to a nearby bench where I took out the camera for some shots of the new features on the outside of the building.

122631292-M-1.jpg

When I was done, we continued on to Jungle Cruise…As we approached, we saw the wait was only 10 minutes. So we decided to park the chair. I could make it that long. We asked a very mean-looking CM where we should park the wheelchair, and she pointed towards a trash can where we didn’t really see any other wheelchairs, but there was a spot to park it there, so we did. We locked it with the lock provided by the hotel. And we got in line. We noticed for the first time that some of the items in the cages throughout the queue have tags saying that they are to be sent to the Adventurers’ Club! What a cool little touch!
122631624-M.jpg

We embarked on our cruise with…the guy from UtahMama’s trip report! I couldn’t believe it! He wasn’t too bad, and I was just thrilled to be there under the circumstances, so I enjoyed myself. And got a nice elephant bathing pool photo too. :)
122632524-M.jpg

After JC, we stumbled upon a little place called Aloha Isle. Had me a Dole Whip. Oh yeah! :woohoo: I had it swirled with vanilla soft serve this time. Oh soooooooo good! I should have taken a picture! I will have to remember that next time.

We went back to ride Peter Pan’s Flight. I was a bit more nervous about this transfer because of the moving conveyer belt and the swaying boats, but all went smoothly. Loved the flight over London, as usual, and saw the mermaid that looks like Ariel.

We did a bit more shopping. Purchased a few pins at the Frontierland Trading Post. Then we decided to check in for dinner.

Tonight is our first MVMCP of the trip. And what better way to get started than to have dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern? We tried to book this last year, but by the time we did, it was too late. We did eat at LTT in May because we hadn’t been there before, but it seemed so appropriate to eat here before the holiday party. We parked the wheelchair in the waiting area and folded and locked it, and I took a seat on a bench. While we were waiting, we noticed a lot of people standing in the street outside looking at something, so Josh went out to investigate. He motioned to me to come outside. I limped on out there. There was a huge rainbow (much like the one we had seen there in May while staying at the Boardwalk Villas), and it was over the castle. It was sprinkling a bit, and I wasn’t terribly stable, so I didn’t whip out the camera, but it was beautiful. :goodvibes Just trust me. When we went back inside, my seat was taken, but I quickly found another, and we were called after a few minutes. We liked our meal here in May. I remember liking most of the food they brought us. I don’t remember thinking anything was WOW! It must have been different this time, or I must have forgotten! This meal was soooooo yummy! The mashed potatoes, the mac ‘n’ cheese, the dressing, the ham, the dessert…all of it was GREAT! The characters were great! They were really interacting with everyone.

122633857-M.jpg

DH accosted one of the character escorts who had been goofing around with Goofy and asked to see her pins. She ended up talking to us for several minutes about buying Stitch items in Japan. DH got full and decided he would need to use the restroom here because I was still eating dessert. So, he went upstairs. When he returned he informed me that he had a problem. Apparently, he had been in the restroom and heard a sound that disturbed him. “Clink, clink, clink” He looked down to discover that the button from his pants had snapped off. Not a pocket button – oh no, THE button. He had carefully managed to get back to our table, but he didn’t know what to do. We have MVMCP like NOW, so I suggested either asking a CM if they could find him a safety pin or buying a cheap lanyard and tying it to his 2 front belt loops to hold the pants together in the front. He thought for a few minutes, and then he took off his lanyard and removed the pins. We went to the nearest restrooms after leaving LTT, and he did what I suggested. It worked! Am I a smart wife or what? So, we’re good to go!

It Par-tay time! Our first order of business is getting our wristbands. When we went to get them, Josh asked a couple of CMs what, if anything, he could do about giving away our 2 extra tickets. He was thinking maybe there was some way to give them to someone if they inquired with the CMs about the party. One said to try near the front of the park where people would be leaving. Another one said we might be able to get a refund on the tickets if the party wasn’t sold out. He said to check at City Hall. Next, we needed to take care of the pins. Now that the park is only open to party-goers, MVMCP pins can be purchased. The pin for that particular party can be purchased at Town Square Exposition Hall, and leftover pins from previous party nights can be purchased at Uptown Jewelers. Normally (like last year), we would split up and one of us go to each place, but with me in the wheelchair, that’s not gonna happen. :sad2: So, we headed to Uptown Jewelers first because it was on the way. We picked up the previous pins, headed to Town Square Exposition Hall, and picked up that night’s pin. When we left, we spotted Santa Goofy outside! :yay: I missed Santa Goofy somehow at the party last year, and I remember looking for him elsewhere and not being able to find him. So, now was my chance! When I reached the front of the line, we were the last ones Goofy would see! I was out of my wheelchair and posing with Goofy.
122634184-M.jpg

Now, we wanted to find the merchandise for the party. I needed a hat because I forgot to bring my Stitch ears Santa hat from last year. So, we checked the map and headed a couple of places to see what we could find. I ended up with a striped MVMCP Santa hat with Mickey ears. We also got the beanie of the reindeer from the parade and an ornament and had both sent back to the room. I wore the hat, of course!

Then we went to see if we could return our tickets and get one for our friend for Thursday night’s party. The CMs at City Hall were very friendly and helpful and let us exchange our 2 extra tickets for one for Thursday and a credit to our credit card! Sweet! :goodvibes Next, we went to get the tripod from the locker and on our way back in, we saw a guy walking with his girlfriend almost run into one of the supports under the train station because he wasn’t watching where he was going. He saw it just in time, but it sure did startle him. He jumped, and we laughed! :rotfl:

Now, what kind of MVMCP would this be without “free” cookies and cocoa? Not a very good one, I must say! (How free is a cookie if you have to pay for a ticket to the party where they are passing them out? Not that I care because you also get amuch less crowded park, a cool parade, and rockin’ fireworks!) We headed for the noodle station. When we got close, I told Josh (whose hands were really hurting) that I could walk up the hill using the wheelchair as a walker so he wouldn’t have to push me up. He was grateful. We sat down with our “free” cookies and enjoyed. Man, those are good cookies! I love snickerdoodles, and these don’t disappoint! :thumbsup2

Time to stake out our fireworks spot and watch for fellow DISer, Susan. We watched the end of the first parade and waited for Main Street to be cleared. Once clear, we hopped out to the middle of the street. Well, I don’t hop. I DID get out of the wheelchair to set up my tripod and camera. I parked the wheelchair next to me so I could lean, and I took some test shots. I am ready. And very excited! :yay: I LOVE Holiday Wishes! :cloud9: It is amazing! Our friend told us last year that it was something special, and I thought to myself, “How can it be that much better than regular Wishes? Wishes is great! I just don’t know what you can do with fireworks that will top regular Wishes.” What was I thinking? This is Disney! They top it! And then some! They do something during this show that made me utter a wirty dird out of surprise the first time I saw it. Fortunately, DH didn’t hear it, so I am hoping no one else did either. Anywho, this is a studendous show! DH recorded it, so now I can watch it whenever I want! We didn’t find Susan before the show. Another failed meet attempt! Here’s some shots I took during the show.

122629633-M.jpg
122629861-M.jpg

After the fireworks, we headed in the direction of Tomorrowland, but I didn’t break down the tripod yet because I wanted some shots of the tree with the castle behind it. At first, of course, you can hardly move in that direction because of the mass exodus from the park after the fireworks are over. So, while we are hardly moving, Josh says, “That’s not Susan, is it?” I turn around, and I am just sure that it is! I had given a VERY basic description to DH, and he finds her! She is talking to someone, and I wait until she is done and ask if she is Susan. She says yes, and I tell her who I am. We visit for a few, and what a lovely person she is! :goodvibes She had ended up catching the early parade, and they were headed to Fantasyland. We were headed to Tomorrowland, so we went our separate ways, and I took my tree/castle shots. So pretty…
122643126-M-1.jpg

We head into Tomorrowland and decide to hit the TTA. I love the TTA! I still call it the peoplemover most of the time. We once again parked and locked the wheelchair and got on another conveyer belt. This is such a relaxing ride, and I love it at night! Josh recorded it with his own special commentary. (Read: BAD jokes!) It is funny to watch though. :rotfl: We looked for space cookies in SM, but no luck! Man! I also didn’t hear Tom Morrow being paged. Hmmm. Maybe next time.

We debated about what to do next. DH was getting tired, and his hands were sore. We had another party coming up on Thursday, so we ended up getting my picture taken with Donald and heading for home.
122643762-M.jpg

The next day would be a free one, and we had Chef Mickey's, DTD, Mini Golf - maybe, & Cali Grill w/fireworks. So, while I am hoping for more improvement (I really don’t want to spend the whole trip in the wheelchair!), I am not too worried about the ankle. There won’t be as much territory to cover, so I am hoping it is a chance for healing – both for my ankle and DH’s hands!
