OK. This one is a bit long. Bear with me.
Its Saturday and MGM day! I do love this park. Remember from the pre-trip report (or maybe you dont), I used to want to be a movie director, so this park is right up my alley. I am up at 6:15, and we drive over to SSR to check in nice and early. I gotta get that DTD view! I want more pictures of it. Our CM, Marcie, says no problem. Sweet!
We parked the van by our building, and we make it to MGM by about 8:30. We got a locker and batteries for Pal Mickey. Yeah, I forgot em, and we paid a fortune for them.
After we grabbed a TOT fastpass for me (DH doesnt do thrill rides, but I do.), we headed back to Starring Rolls for a little breakfast. (We forgot to bring our granola bars with us too.) I had a chocolate croissant, and DH had a cinnamon bun. Yummy!
Then we shopped along Sunset Boulevard and with a few minutes left to kill before my fast pass became active, we sat down and made a plan of attack for the rest of the day. We havent really done this so specifically before, but it worked remarkably well! For once, things just fell into place and turned out the way we planned. Heres what we did:
We went over to TOT, and I rode it. I love this ride! The first time I rode it was in February, and while I was riding, my DH bought me a Bellhop Stitch keychain to commemorate the occasion. It has adorned my camera backpack ever since.
The ride is just so different from anything else, and what a rush! Plus, that queue area rocks! Now, to execute the rest of the plan
We headed back to the hat. OK, so here it is. I am a dork about characters. I confess!
We went to the character meal at Crystal Palace on our honeymoon. We didnt plan it. Just stopped by to see if we could get in, and we did. I dont even know if we knew there were characters there at the time. But after that, it was on like Donkey Kong! I just think theyre fun, and they just make it all even more magical for me.
I see a character, particularly one I havent had my picture taken with before, and I give DH puppy-dog-eyes. I dont even do it on purpose. It is just instinctual. He then rolls his eyes, takes the camera, and we hop in line.
As we approach the hat, DH points her out. I have never seen her before, but I know who she is - Clarice (I think thats her name), the girl chipmunk! We get in line, get to the very front of the line, and the characters switch. I am first in line for Year of a Million Dreams Chip and Dale. Thats OK. Cute new outfits on my chipmunk pals, and I will try to catch Clarice later.
I get my photopass, and after I wave bye to Chip and Dale, I spot my mouse. Mickey! And hes in Year of a Million Dreams attire as well! Of course, I am now waiting in the longest character line in the park at that moment while DH shops under the hat for pins.
And this time, I know it will happen, and it does. I am visiting Minnie and Goofy instead of Mickey and Pluto.
Thats OK. We will be back, I tell myself. And by the time Im done there, I have the perfect opportunity to meet Clarice, so I do.
OK. Time to move on.
We headed over to Lights, Motor, Action to get fastpasses for the 1:25 show. As we neared the entrance, a CM approached us and asked if we were interested in the 1:25 show. We told her we were, and she handed us fastpasses. Not sure if this is the norm, but it worked for us! From there, we went to see Muppetvision 3D. We are a couple that grew up on and loves the Muppets!
We almost forgot to pick up our 3D glasses because we were rushing in at the last minute, but DH snagged a couple of pairs and all was well. Thanks sweetie!
We browsed through the Muppet store where Pal Mickey is always sure to tell us that the doors above us are from the original Muppet Show, and we headed over to Sci-Fi for our lunch ressies at 12:15. We LOVE this restaurant! We love the movie clips and the theming and the food - Love it!
I had a cheeseburger. I skipped my usual chocolate shake (that I LOVE) because I am on meds for heartburn and am supposed to be eating small portions because I might have a hyatal hernia (not that a cheeseburger and fries is small, but I didnt finish the fries, and this is vacation). I dont really want to make myself feel awful while at Disney. DH had the chicken sandwich, and we got the onion rings as an appetizer. We always get the onion rings as an appetizer, although I didnt eat too many this time. Those are some good onion rings, and I dont like onions that much!
After lunch, we went to Lights, Motor, Action, which DH recorded with the new camcorder and I feverishly photographed.
This show is good! So good, in fact, that the first time we saw it, I forgot to take pictures once it started!
Me! Me, who stops my DH every 10 paces to take a picture of something! Its a good show. Thats all Im sayin.
Then, we picked up fast passes for Star Tours on the way to get a spot for the Hollywood Holly-Day Parade. We staked out our spot for the parade in front of the gift shop next to the entrance to Sounds Dangerous. We looked for monymony while we waited. No luck! We missed each other.
Well, we would keep an eye out for her, I tell DH. We would be at the same MVMCP on Thursday. We dont usually do afternoon parades because it is a great opportunity to get in some rides while others are watching, but I like this parade. I love how they decorate the cars for Christmas and the Hollywood feel.
After the parade was over, we headed back to Star Tours. DH does do the simulators. And he loves Star Wars, as do I, but not in a freaky way.
Side note: When we were at MK last February, we were at Exposition Hall and saw George Lucas! I was standing there looking at what else? Camera accessories. And I turned around to find DH, and George Lucas walked right by me like within 2 feet of me. In my head, I was thinking something like this: Huh, that guy that just walked right by me sure did look a lot like George Lucas Really, he looked too much like him for it to be anyone else but George Lucas...But it couldnt have been George Lucas OMG! I think that was George Lucas! It took us a while to believe that was really who we saw. He was just walking around in there shopping, had a couple friend/family member-type people with him. He was asking a CM a question, and DH tried to walk by so that he could hear him talking, thinking that would make him certain. But in the end, we didnt approach him. We didnt want to start anything. He was on vacation, after all. But sure enough, when we got home, DH looked online to see if he could find a posting somewhere about where George might have been that weekend, and he was in central Florida. Now, I am thinking, hey, when am I ever gonna see George Lucas again? It would have been nice if wed at least gone up to him and said, Hey, nice job on all the movies, and given him one of these:
Oh well.
End side note.
We rode Star Tours along with a mother and her late-teen/early-20s daughter who had never ridden before. I love riding rides with first-timers! They had ridden Mission Space the day before, and the mom was a little nervous about this ride. We told her it was a different kind of simulator, and when it was over, I asked her how she liked it. It actually bothered her. I think she liked it, but it made her dizzy, etc. I cant believe she made it through Mission Space. I wont even ride that one! More power to her!
