Pen or Sharpie for Autographs

What if you are not using an autograph book, but instead are wanting to use ball caps, t-shirts or pillow cases? From what folks have said here, it seems that the color (except green) would wash out. What would be the best alternative?

I guess for any fabric you should use fabric pens.

We brought along a couple of the big fat writing pens and all the CM's thanked us. They said they liked them best because they are easy for the characters to hold on to, they click and they don't stain like the markers do.

Here is my experience with both.. pen is great if it gets somewhat wet. It doesn't run that much.. but on the down side, it doesn't stand out that much either.. sharpies are bold and pleasing to the eye when you look at them and come in fun colors, but if you get the book even slightly wet (then again I am speaking from many years ago) the sharpies would run down the page...

I would vote for a pen if you are going to display the item. Won't fade out like a sharpie or felt tip.

Character Attendant here.

**My vote goes to Sharpie. If you're afraid that it bleeds thru the page you can get the fine point Sharpie. It also comes in click it.

**As others have reported we strongly prefer you do not bring Green color Sharpies. Some attendants maybe more vocal about offering another color and some may prefer not to say anything afraid of a guest being irate because of it. Still our costuming department begs us not to use the green ones.

**Although most characters won't turn down a mini-sharpie they are very uncomfortable for them to use.

**Just for clarification WDW does not sell Sharpies for multiple reasons.

**The pens that they sell in the stores (the big ones) are good too. Characters like and love big pens.

**A personal plea. You can bring in anything for characters to sign. Buy a book, make a book, or sign a book we don't mind. However please don't bring those tiny notebooks. The ones that are as little as post it note pad. It is soooo uncomfortable to sign those!! Sometimes is not even enough to sign their full names!
