I've been looking online and the only tickets I can find for Pearl Harbor are fairly pricey. I know there are free tickets if you show up early enough, but aren't there reasonably priced tickets you can book ahead of time that are basically the same as the free tickets with just a small fee? If so, could someone give me a link to that site? Thanks!

You can book free timed tickets directly from the national park service for a $1.50 per ticket convenience fee.

We just purchased our online tickets as the 2 month window opened up. It was free with the $1.50 service fee. It's perfect as we have our time set and don't have to go super early to wait in line!

Perfect, thank you! Is it 60 days ahead of time? I looked at June 7th and it said they weren't available yet. I can't find where it says that anywhere. Any input on which tours are the best? We will have myself, dh, ds 24, ds (and history major) 22, dd 15 and dd 13. I don't know that most of us will have the patience for 4+ hours but I can see wanting more than just an hour tour as well. Thanks!

Awesome, thank you! What option did you choose, the regular Pearl Harbor tour?

Yes we just did the regular Arizona memorial. My DH is using a scooter and the other ships/subs you can tour are not accessible. We just opted for the free basic tour.

Thanks! I need to talk to history major son (whose college graduation we are celebrating!) and see how much of it he wants to see.

So for the sake of not creating another Pearl Harbor thread I just thought I'd ask.

I see 3 different options on the government site...
USS Arizona (This is the free one)
USS Arizona Memorial Narrated Tour
Passport to Pearl Harbor

I was thinking the free tour would probably be sufficient but I hate to miss out on the rest if it's worth it (I'm sure it would be). Any suggestions? What have you all done?

That is my dilemma as well . . . I know my history buff son would probably like a longer, more detailed version, but I'm not sure the rest of us will make it that long (never mind the price x 6).

Exactly :)

We only have 5 days on Oahu so I want to make the most of our time with at least 2-3 resort days. I don't want to miss Pearl Harbor but I just want to make sure we make the most of our time!

Do the free stuff. You can walk around the outside areas, and the free museum areas, and get a great overview of everything. The boat ride to the memorial is preceded by a short film, so you also get more info with that.

The free stuff is very detailed. The paid things (like the narrated tour) are great, but honestly not really necessary. And once you get to the Arizona itself, you're pretty much herded through like cattle.

The other things - like the Missouri, the Bowfin and the Aviation Museum really should be considered a separate day, unless you plan on spending ALL day in pearl harbor. if you do the passport, then you really need like 5 or more hours there.

Also worth noting, no bags of any kind are allowed. Nothing larger than a wallet clutch. And they are serious about that.

We were there For two weeks last May/June and couldn't get a time slot for the five of us using the reservation system. But I did learn and was able to snag tickets the morning before for the $1.50 rate. Every morning I believe around 7 or 7:30 they release around 75 tickets for the next day. Just make sure that you set up your account and are ready to purchase tickets when the clock strikes as they go fast !! Good luck.

Do you know what time zone the 7 or 7:30 is in? Hopefully it's easier than the 4:45 a.m. wake up for the 5 a.m. DVC rooms at the 7 month mark! Thanks for the head's up. We have 6 of us so I will have to have my act together.

Hawaii time zone. You know, like where pearl harbor is.

Also, you can just walk up and get tickets. Almost any time during the day. Late afternoon is generally better, and not on a weekend. There are usually still tickets.

Thank you for the helpful info!

Congratulations on your son's graduation! History is a great degree- I have a Master's in it! Really looking forward to touring Pearl Harbor in July during our stay. I would like to try the narrated tour. We did a narrated tour at Alcatraz in San Francisco two years ago and it was excellent. Planning to by our tickets early on the .gov site when the window opens. Enjoy!

It's Hawaii time. It wasn't a problem for us as we planned our day there halfway during our stay so we were on their time zone. Maybe pick a couple of days to plan for incase the first one doesn't work. Just remember that you have to create an account in order to purchase tickets from their website and be logged in to that account that morning. Good luck !

I think I may have read that they have lockers maybe? Anyone have personal experience with these if they have them?

i'm pretty sure they aren't lockers, it's like a bag check area - but it is secure and no one can get in to the area. But, I don't think I'd leave my purse there.

Just back, visited last Tuesday, there is a small building to the right of the main entry gate that rents lockers for storage, I believe the fee is three dollars.
