Peak Season pricing

What is the upcharge on this? We will be there from Nov. 22nd -28th and a couple of places that we are eating states this pricing but it does not give a price. Thanks

Generally speaking it's about $4-$5/adult and $2/child

Holiday pricing = Disney's version of price gouging. JMHO.

Perhaps, but no one actually has to go to Disney, on those dates, and eat in those restaurants. If enough people decide that the price is too high, the holiday increases will go away. If people keep coming and ponying up the cash despite the increases, they are here to stay and will spread.

So far, those restaurants are still jam-packed with people during the holiday periods...

The reason I was asking is as of right now we are on the dining plan, but life has happened. One way to cut cost was to get rid of the dining plan since we will have a kitchen at OKW. Now that I look at some of the places that we were going to eat---I know Thanksgiving Day's cost, but we are also eating at Chef Mickey's and Ohana---just curious as to how much more it is going to cost and if we should get rid of the dining plan. We are a party of 4 adults (according to disney) 1 child and 1 infant (I know not charged)

True, but should those who do go at those times be penalized for doing so? I guess I just don't see a justification for the higher prices. Most of the table service restaurants operate at or near capacity all year round. It's not as if Disney's expenses for running those restaurants increases during holiday periods.

Actually they probably do increase. There is a holiday that week that Disney has to pay it's employees for. If the employee doesn't work they get paid, if they do work they get paid for their hours worked and get paid for the holiday also.

But what about holidays at other times of the year? Disney must pay those employees at those times too, yet they don't increase prices. Consider as well restaurants other than those at WDW. They would have the similar employee expenses, yet most of them do not increase their prices over the holidays (at least not in our area). Employers more typically account for days off and paid holidays in their normal operating expenses. They do not adjust their pricing structure every time they need to cover a holiday payroll.

I do not know of any place that pays there employees Holiday pay other than the day of the Holiday. I do not have a problem with the holiday pricing on the actual holiday---but to have it for a week of time--yes I do have a problem with that. Will I still eat there - yes--Am I happy about the prices no.

It all boils down to supply and demand. Disney knows that it is operating at peak capacity those weeks, so they know they can get what they charge. The only way they will stop is if demand goes down. With ME they know that for x% of their guests, they have a captive audience who can't go elsewhere for other dining options.

Disney is in the business to make a profit for its shareholders. This lets them maximize that profit, which is what the shareholders expect. I don't see a problem with this. I agree that you don't have to like that they have a surcharge, but if you don't like it you have other options such as not traveling to Disney during that time period.

Disney raised buffet prices for like 6 weeks in a row (from Memorial Day to July 4th). Most of their employees would be servers - so they might have paid one or two days of extra pay - which would be little on a servers salary.

I think it's a bad idea to raise the prices - but I just stay away from buffets during those time periods.

Seasonal Disney World Dining Information

During seasons of high demand, Disney raises the prices at most of the prix fixe restaurants.

Below are the restaurants and dates when you can expect to pay more. On average, it's $4.00 more per person ages 10 and up, $2.00 more per child ages 3 -9.

I think it's a bad idea to raise the prices - but I just stay away from buffets during those time periods.

Other than the duration I don't think this is much different than a local retaurant upping the price of their Sunday brunch on days such as Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, etc. Their costs are the same but they can fetch the higher price due to higher demand.
