PC query - Norton security system scan?

I have Norton security on my PC. It's scheduled to run a system scan weekly but it has been taking so long I've not let it run it's course the last few weeks and have closed down the PC before it's finished. This week, I decided to stick with it and left the system scan running. It was on for 36 hours - it still hadn't finished scanning

It never used to take that long - any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

WoW! I think you may have a problem. We use Norton on 2 PCs and an old laptop. It takes approx 1 hour to do a scan on mine which has a 200gbyte harddrive and approx 45 minutes on the old laptop (pentium 3). DD takes about an hour on her 120gbyte harddrive.

Have you tried de-fragging your harddrive recently? If you have files "all over the place" it could be slowing it down.

My advise would be to dump Norton

I had nothing but trouble with it and it slowed my PC down so much!

Go for a free one like AVG

Do you use aol? I had norton and aol and had to get rid of norton because it really messed up my computer, something about these two programs just doesn't work. I have avg now instead.

I'm not on AOL, so it's not that, bit I'm doing a defrag and clean-up, and will see if that makes any difference

We had the same problems as you so we got rid of it

We had nothing but problems on our old pc with Norton too.

Use AVG on our new one and it takes less than 30 minutes to run.
