Paying for fastpass in 2006?????

I think they like to change things and not really give much information prior to the change going live. There HAVE been many, many changes in 2005, but after the complete overhaul with Magic Your Way the changes haven't really involved anything that would require a major behavior change from guests other than learning the new booking windows. To expect people to pay for Fast Passes is one thing. To expect them to change their resort habits is something entirely different. I can see keeping the current system but making it an option, not a given. On the other hand, how mad would you be if you PAID for Fast Pass and the machines were empty every time you tried to get one? Customer satisfaction vs. profitability has to be an ugly struggle!

I still don't think we need to get our knickers in a knot just yet. Birnbaum's makes mistakes, and Disney changes their mind all the time. Even if they have several scenarios on the table it doesn't mean that changes will be implemented in 2006.

There are similarities between fastpasses and the individual ride coupons Disney and many other other amusement parks used up until the late 20'th century. This includes the staff needed to collect them. The single park admission ticket with "unlimited" rides (the amusement industry calls it "pay one price") was not only to attract more guests but also to reduce labor costs. Fast pass has re-instituted the labor costs, therefore only time will tell when some form of individual ride pricing is also re-instituted.
