Paying for fastpass in 2006?????

We stayed at HRH this past summer and the only reason we stayed there was to use the FOTL pass and it was SOOOOO worth it...we didn't feel cheated AT ALL. As a matter of fact, we were able to do an entire park within 2 1/2-3hrs and relaxed the rest of the time. (ie: shopping)

In my opinion, Disney is on to something and they would be silly not to try it. I know that I'd stay Deluxe if it would mean fastpasses during my stay.

The only way somebody can be cheated and ripped off is if they allow it to happen.

Why tie it to Deluxe though? Seems to make more sense to offer it to all resort guests at a flat rate -- maybe include it as a "perk" with deluxe, but offer it at a flat rate at the lower levels. I rarely stay deluxe, but would be very willing to pay a premium for fast pass.

Maybe my math assumptions are off, but I would think you would make more $$ by offering it to a larger population at a flat rate then simply including it with Deluxe.

Interesting to see how this pans out (if at all).

Once they finish the other part of POP, there will be 30,000+ on site rooms. That could be a lot of guests on the Space Mountain "Super Fast Pass" line at one time

I just went and looked at the copy I bought for DD for Christmas and that is exactly what it says! As someone else said if it weren't the OFFICIAL guide I wouldn't really think too much about it but they must have had some kind of OK to include that statement. Right in the front of the book too. :earseek:

I wonder if it would affect us DVCers at all... Interesting. Couldn't it get really complicated though? Unless instead of putting in your park admission, you would put in your room key. But, that would mean that you couldn't get a fastpass without a room key. I'm definitely interested to see how it would work if this pans out.

I'm very interested in the DVC aspect of this as well. Also, what about APs?

Ignoring the shameless pop at Universal, it might be because that's the way it's always been there, so it's accepted. At Disney, it's always been fastpasses for all, so if they were to change the scheme and limit to Deluxe guests only or put a price tag on it, everyone would be up in arms.

It's the classic story - give a man a dollar and he's happy. Give him $3, then take one away later and he's angry - even though he's got more money than the other guy.

An extra point for you to consider now. For the past two years at Disneyland Paris, they've had a system where although fastpasses are still available to everyone, people staying in the top two hotels (Disneyland and New York) have been able to print off three free fastpasses per guest in the hotel to take into the park as a perk, while people staying in the Castle Club at the Disneyland Hotel (think Concierge level and then some) are given special VIP tickets allowing them unlimited fastpasses. Maybe this was a trial run for WDW?

tied into the deluxes?
as I age, the poor old dawgs are going & the FP for all are super.
We do occassionally stay at deluxes, but over all this will mean shorter trips for us as I cannot bear to stand in lines & we already go at 'slow' times. I also am bummed to hear it might be mandatory to commit to a schedule to schedule FP (as mentioned in the article)--Am also concerned how this will affect DVC & APs--
We will often stay at values or mods, for cash, at the begining or end of trips, if we get the short end of the stick with that it could be an incentive to spend those parts of our trip offsite
If it comes to pass everyone watch out for this newbie EVC driver! :teeth:

Wow, I thought maybe I had missed read my daughter's new book :guilty: but it looks as if that is wishful thinking!!

When I went back a reread the little Fastpass article...the quote is...
"Fastpass is usually FREE for guests staying at DELUXE Walt Disney World hotels."

Remember, this is a 2006 Guide Book. That sounds as if it is a "done deal" for deluxe resorts, doesn't it? It then says in the next line..."Other guests may have to pay for it in 2006."

All I want to know is, will my AP also "tell them" that I am staying at the Polynesian? LOL
Meaning: I love my AP and don't want to give it up, but if there are fastpass perks for Disney hotel guests only, I want to make sure my AP will still get me access to them when I am staying onsite. Hmmm. Maybe they will issue a special length of stay pass for use in fastpass machines........

You would probably have to use your room key either instead of or in addition to your pass.

Wow, I hope DVC resorts are considered "Deluxe"!!!

Years ago, when AK first opened, Disney paid me $25 to sit down with a CM and take part in a survey. Most of the questions were related to the AK but not all, and one was: Would you be willing to pay extra for a pass that would allow to go to the head of lines?

So what happens if everyone is willing to pay to go the front of the line. We are back where we started stuck in line and short $25 bucks. :guilty:

It's ALL about the MONEY.

Exactly!! And if its only for those at Deluxe hotels well that stinks. Sorry not all of us can afford deluxe so what we get shoved to the back of the line. :confused3

I hope EVERYONE purchases " Front of the Line Fast passes" that way I can coast though the regular line.... suckas

I should hope so, considering the amount of money we have to put in to own. But then again, you never know.

Oh I think there would be some serious member uproar if we weren't included in the deluxe catergory.
