Passporter - Have you used it?

:wave2: I have both versions and plan to bring the Deluxe with me on our 1st cruise. The information contained in the book answered a lot of my questions. The disboards are a great source of info. from past cruisers and I love the trip reports. I highly recommend Passporters. You can order from Passporters.com or go to a book store and, if they don't have it, ask if they'll order for you.

BTW, it's a good way to make the cruise last longer! ::yes::

But the book is portable, most people can't take these websites with them. And the book is indexed very nicely. I love Barb and Dave's sites (and sometimes - with things like copies of Navigators or Menu's, there information is much better than the Passporter) but they can both be hard to navigate. And the book does contain more information than the sites. I'd recommend using all the resources.

If money is really tight, this and the websites are free. But the book isn't a huge amount of money in the scope of the cruise.

Just my opinion, but hard to navigate? We must be looking at different sites. THEIR sites are much more up to date.

Another idea is to check out your local library to see if they have it. I have checked out many disney and other travel guides from the library and read them from cover to cover. If I really like the book and/or think I need it for the future, I'll buy it. But, otherwise, I'm happy to let the tax dollars I've already paid allow me to read the book!:teeth:

My local library didn't have it, but my sister's city library had it when we cruised in April. She rented it for me and I took it along on the cruise. It was very helpful! There were many things I looked up while on the cruise, even though I had read the entire thing before we left. We couldn't figure out how to open our cabin's sliding glass door - wouldn't you know it, the Passporter told us how! Definitely worth it to have it on your trip, especially a first cruise.

I've been on one 4 night cruise and have researched a lot for our upcoming Western cruise. Everyone raves about the book so I ordered a copy of the deluxe version.

Not that I was disappointed, but I did not find it very helpful and I'm not sure I will bring it with. As others have said, I already knew most of the details and information from previous research. Also, large parts of the book are not applicable since I already booked the cruise, picked a stateroom, and don't need info on the Eastern, 3-night, 4-night, or 10-night cruises.

Also, half of the deluxe version is pocket folders to hold documents by day and jot down notes of what you will do (or did) each day. I highly doubt I would carry around the book the cruise because of its size. It will just stay in the cabin.

I would suggest save the $$ and get the small paperback version if you want a concise resource to take with you. Otherwise do all your research for free on the internet and make up your own planning sheets in Word or Excel.

I love their sites and find them both helpful, but I like a good back of the book index. I personally have trouble finding things - particularly on Barb's site. This site's search is down as often as it is up.

For instance, if I want to know how to dress for dinner, the Passporter has an index: Dress, dining. If I go to Barb's site, I find no search on her front page and no real clue where I could find out about dress. Dave also has no search, and no category that seems like it will contain an explaination about dress. And, while you guys are wonderful, I'm going to need to wade through three dozen posts about not wearing shorts and how can I go to formal night in capris and the guy who sat next to someone three years ago with a muscle shirt and a hairy back (all entertaining, its why I come here) to find out what DCL guidelines are.

Of course web sites will be more up to date than published books - the nature of print is that its hard to update - but easy to read at the hairdresser. The Passporter site is kept up to date as well.
