I have downloaded a sample of information on the Passporter for the DCL and it appears to have good information. I was wondering if anyone here had purchased one, and if so, did you find it useful?

the book is extremely useful ...we were very happy we purchased it.

Very useful for a first time DCL cruiser.

Don't know that I'd buy it again. Oh, yeah, I will. I use guidebooks to dream as well as plan.

We recently purchased this book (on a recommendation from a co-worker). It is well worth the $$$. A bunch of very helpful information in one place.

Make sure you get the 2nd edition (not sure when it was published).

We were given one as a gift and I liked it. Good information - if I was cruising again in the future I don't know if I would get it again or just go for the updates on these boards.

I just recieved mine in the mail two days ago and already have gotten some great info out of it!! It is a must get.
I ordered from amazon and if you place a $25 it is free shipping.
I bought my son a book for his birthday and the passporter and
that was $25. It was cheaper from amazon, too.

It's fantastic. I own both the first and second edition in the paperback version. I love it because it fits so nicely into a fanny pack due to its size. It was easy to take on the cruise with us and convenient to have all the information in a single place.

I picked this book up as well for my May 2004 cruise and it was a HUGE help. It gave extremely useful information on what to expect and I brought it everywhere!

I had the field-guide which was nice and compact but the information was the same as in the larger versions.

I would HIGHLY recommend!

It may be helpful for a first time DCL cruiser, but I found that it didn't have anything that I couldn't find here or at Barb's or Dave's websites.

You can't beat the info here!

Definitaly recommend it.....was a great help on our first cruise....
Will be buying the 2005 updated version when it becomes available.
The info on these boards is awesome but there is soo much more with lots of specifics in the book, from dining to excursions to room layouts and lots of helpful hints. I don't know about you but I can't possibly remember all the info I get off of these boards so its nice to be able to refer to the book.

It has lots of information in it. Read it completely before our cruise & will check over again before out next cruise.:Pinkbounc

But the book is portable, most people can't take these websites with them. And the book is indexed very nicely. I love Barb and Dave's sites (and sometimes - with things like copies of Navigators or Menu's, there information is much better than the Passporter) but they can both be hard to navigate. And the book does contain more information than the sites. I'd recommend using all the resources.

If money is really tight, this and the websites are free. But the book isn't a huge amount of money in the scope of the cruise.

You can also order it direct from passporter.com . Don't know if it saves $ for everyone, but if you have a previous passporter edition from DCL or WDW you save 15%.
If you need a quick answer it may be easier to have the book. For example, you can post here asking about excursion X, but you might not get an answer right away--if you have the book you can look it up. Also, DH decided on Cozumel morning he wanted to do an excursion--luckily I had the book with us so we could look at the reviews of what was available.

Another plug for the books. We haven't even cruised yet, but have both editions ( one paperback and the new one in Deluxe ).

Another idea is to check out your local library to see if they have it. I have checked out many disney and other travel guides from the library and read them from cover to cover. If I really like the book and/or think I need it for the future, I'll buy it. But, otherwise, I'm happy to let the tax dollars I've already paid allow me to read the book!:teeth:

I am actually thinking about purchasing the deluxe edition. I downloaded a "peek" as the Passporter web site calls it. Just for looking at the peek, I can get 20% off by ordering direct from them, which beats my Books A Million price. I think I may just order it for the convenience. Like another post said, if you are spending $1600 on a cruise, what's another $35?

The first edition had many mistakes....mainly about cabin capacity....these have since been fixed so get a later edition.

DW & I both read it all the way through & now I'm studying it along with this board as I prepare for our first cruise in 2006.

Count me in as a true fan!!! The Passporter contains tons of helpful information and I'm constantly referring to it for answers as we anxiously await our first Disney Cruise.

I'm also a fan of the passporter!:hyper:
We haven't cruised yet, but I've read over the passporter several times to help plan our cruise. I've also looked over the mentioned web sites and visit the Diz frequently. But I can take the passporter and read while waiting for the kids at different activities, read (and dream) before going to bed and any other free time I may have. My vote is to get the Passporter!
