I have a friend from high school who does this and a relative who does this.

You know the types--they post some nonsense and you can tell that someone peturbed them, so then everyone grovels (sp?) to find out the scoop.

It just gets so old. Now with facebook--I get to see it all the time.

LOL, look at the bright side, at least there's the potential for a juicy scoop. :rotfl:

Random people, random personalities, random posting styles.

And hey, it's better than a news page full of everyone's Mafia Wars updates. :)

Oh, I hide all that mafia war/farmville junk! And all those tests..."What color is your aura?" "What 80s rock band are you??"

Lisa-I hate that, too! So obvious the person wants attention.

It's a great feature that you can hide wall posts from specific apps, so for instance if you don't want to see any Mafia Wars posts from anybody you can hide them. Just hover over the upper right corner of the post and you'll get the option to Hide posts from that user or from that app.

And vice versa, why can't someone gripe about something for a second on their wall without a million busybodies begging to know whats going on? Sometimes you just wanna vent about something for a sentence or two without telling a big long story and it isn't meant to bait anyone into trying to find out anything at all. If I wanted people to know the whole story, I would have posted it. i just wanna take a second to say, "I'm irked by people who do this or that" and then move on with my day. :-)

jlmarr-yes, that is what I do!

angelhalo-if someone takes the time to post, "I am so mad right now!" or "feeling sad today" of course they know people are going to ask about it. If you just want to vent, I guess you could send an email to yourself, or write it on a piece of paper and throw it away?

I often wonder how long people spend "crafting" their status message. You just KNOW some people must sit their forever trying to think of a way to get everyone to comment on it.

My favorite was this INCREDIBLY obnoxious guy and his status was "'can't believe it happened again :(" The best part was not a single person ever asked what happened LOL.

I had no idea you could do that....thank you!!!:thumbsup2

What I'd like to know is...Why do people post mundane chores? I don't need to know that you went to the grocery store, or the car wash or I just did laundry, whatever. Should I post when I scrub the toilet?;)

I hate those too! Or worse for me is one particular friend who will put something vague and thought provoking in her status, and people will comment on it, but I'll find out later that she meant it as a private joke between her and a man (she's married). I've learned that unless her status updates are very clear and/or about her family, they're usually private references.

Drives me nuts!

I think when you put status messages in public, you should expect to get comments or questions. You could always put the disclaimer "just venting" or "don't mind me, I'm down today" or something.

thankfully, most everybody who I want to know the whole story know it before I vent....but I had one earlier this week that I would consider passive aggresive and no one bit:rotfl:

Most everybody saw it as a vent and let me be. :rolleyes1

LOL.

I have a friend who does things like that, and then a week or so later he'll create a group named "people who still have a chance to ask about that status update", etc etc. Did it with his birthday (second chance at wishing me a HB), then did a "can't believe you're not kvelling over my picture" post the other day (it's him with his nephews, who are cute, but seriously?)...

Thankfully he can poke fun at himself about it after the fact, but still, it's pretty egotistic of him...which he normally can't handle when he sees it in *other* people.

OMG...mushymushy...do they live in the Ft Lauderdale area? There is a couple that constantly posts inside jokes to each other as status updates, or just "I love you, honey" and I thought it was cute, maybe, ohhh...the first 100 times I saw it posted. I want SO BADLY to comment "Ummm...you do know you can email, text of call each other, right?"

I also think it is funny when people post, "I am drinking coffee" or "going to work now!!" I purposely only change my status a few times a week....cuz *I* know what *I* do when people change their status several times a day...I do the HIDE 'em trick!!!

That doesn't bother me. I can't stand it when people brag via facebook. Like Oooh, I'm driving up to the Springsteen concert right now. Oooh, I'm tailgating at the Springsteen concert right now. I wonder how much they are acutally enjoying the activity they are doing if they are constantly updating of FB?!?

LOL - that was great!!!! :)

hey, I might have to add the link on the FB page!! :lmao:

Go for it! I posted it on my FB page when it first came out, a few months ago.

Nutter-That is so true...I have been to parties where I look around, and everyone is taking a picture of themselves with their phones and posting about what a great time they are having. Kind of weird.

Oh well, I am sure *I* do something that annoys people on FB. Overall, I just LOVE FB, I like it to see people I have not seen in a long time, and also to catch up with friends that I actually do see.

I just recently set up an account on Facebook so I could have another avenue to communicate with my daughter that recently moved to North Carolina.

What I have found out is that Facebook is primarily designed for people in their late teens and early twenties as a place to go and sound like they are 12 again and are desperately trying to get attention. Four letter words, stupid dark Q & A's, topics that have meaning to only the poster (if then) and like the link said...topics that absolutely no one cares about. We don't care that you are in class until eleven. We don't care if you think you are about the toughest thing to ever inhabit the earth or the universe. We don't care that you just got up and are hungry. We don't care that you think your brain is controlling your thoughts and may just destroy you because you are too wimpy to take charge of your own life. We don't care about any of that stuff and we all wonder why you think anyone does.

Anyway...I limit myself to a few close, mature, people that I can have a little friendly banter with and the rest goes to "please do not show". What a ginormous waste of cyberspace.
