I am now reading a book called "Passion To Preserve." If you are not familiar with it, it is about the efforts of gay men in the restoration of old houses. I don't know whether gay men are actually more involved in historical preservation than lesbians are since there have often been a lot of women volunteering in the organizations that do this type of work, but the author thinks so. Nevertheless, it is a charming read. I wondered whether anyone else here was familiar with it.

I do know that Jim Williams deserves a great deal of credit for saving many of Savannah's historic homes. In addition to the homes he personally purchased and restored, he helped create interest in others to do the same.

I'm sure many of you have heard of 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'. The last couple of times I have visited Savannah, they have been doing tours of the Mercer House. My favorite part is a cat that has full roam on the house. It is quite amusing to see him sleeping on the antique furniture as the guests stroll through.

the national trust for historic preservation has a pretty active gay and lesbian group. at past conferences i would say it is more men than women -- but definitely a lot of women. my favorite outing was seeing lady chablis when the conference was in savannah in 98.
