Party of 5: August 2012 Dining Review with the Queen of Chicken Nuggets (With Pics)

Roasted chicken, that sounds like something my family would have liked. Must have missed that. Thanks for joining in!

So... have some free time now, siblings are back at school but I have not starting working yet so thought I would shoot out some out of this world dining.

On day 3 we decided to enjoy the Sci-Fi Restaurant. We ate there on our last Disney holiday and loved it but have since heard some terrible reviews. Well... let me tell you; this was one of our favourite meals, both for the atmosphere and the food. We also had an awesome waiter who was so acoomodating to the Queen of Nuggets!

I will start with the front of the car, my dad and sister. Amber ordered chicken nuggets from the kids menu which came with two sides -she ordered fries and more fries. I believe they were the hockey puck chicken but she didnt mind. So long as they are breaded circles she usually is good. Our waiter also let her order a milkshake, even though her meal was a kids one. She also got an extra milkshake to go for dessert.

My dad ordered the Angus Chuck Double Bacon Cheeseburger (that is a mouthful). He really enjoyed, was cooked well done - perfectly for him. He said it had good flavour and the fries were not bland (just needed some vinegar - they didnt have white vinegar). He also ordered a milkshake for his drink and for his dessert (to go).

My mum ordered the Rib-Eye Steak. She ordered it medium-well and again it was cooked just to her liking. She said the red wine sauce was really nice as well and added good flavour. The vegetables that came with it were tasty and not too mushy, she mentioned that the potatoes were a little bit cold but still tasted good. My mum ordered flavoured pop (tried both the vanilla and cherry - she prefered the vanilla).

My brother and I were in the back row. Jett ordered the kids Hot Dog and Fries. It was one of his favourite meals and he ate every last bite. For dessert he enjoyed the ice cream sundae.

Finally my meal. I ordered the Oreo milkshake for my beverage - I was able to drink about 1/2 since a certain backseat passenger also enjoyed. For my dinner I had Shrimp Pasta. It was a huge portion and had SO much shrimp (you can see from the picture). So often "Shrimp" pastas have like 3 of those little frozen things in them but this was delicious. It was a wee bit cold - I was going to have our waiter bring back but I didnt really want to have to wait for it to be reheated since I was really hungry. For dessert I had the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake to go. It was good but I think I would have enjoyed much more if I had eaten it while we were there (as I had to eat it cold). No microwaves in the Poly?

Well ttfn and looking forward to seeing your comments :goodvibes

Nice reviews! I'm looking forward to trying Sci-Fi for the first time in January!

Wow that's a lot of shrimp! I hate when they only give you a few!

I know. Three of those little, tiny, frozen shrimps should not be considered at Shrimp Pasta. There was so much and it was real tasting shrimp with actual flavour.

Dinner
At dinner we ventured to the Grand Floridian for 1900 Park Fare. We loved the character interaction (especially Lady Tremaine and Anastasia; Cinderella and Prince Charming were eh...). The food however did not blow us away. We only grabbed a couple of pictures; a lot of the food was cold and there were no Chicken Nuggets (despite every menu we looked at saying there was). So Amber ate a bun with butter and about 6 fries. For the meat eaters there was the typical fares (chicken and I think a roast) - I am told both were pretty bland. Veggie options for me were few and far between (the salad bar was pretty good mind you). The dessert bar was good as well but didnt have a ton of options.
Overall, we would recommend for the characters but I wouldnt go out of my way for the food.!

Following along with your review - loved our free dining as well :)

Interesting how everyone has so many different opinions on a restaurant - we really enjoyed the food at 1900 Park Fare. I booked it for the characters expecting boring, bland food. The characters were meh. The restaurant was SO loud and noisy we could barely hear what they were saying and Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters didn't ham it up too much with us. No big deal though but I won't book it for the characters again.

On the other hand - the food was unexpectedly good. I really enjoyed the variety of salad choices. I was in heaven with the chicken curry as I love Indian food and don't get it very often. It was also fun to see sushi there. My DD adored the pizza and bypassed her favorite steak in favor of it. I took a bite...she was right...it was good pizza! DH was craving fruit by now (our 12th day of DDP!) and spent a ton of time at the fruit bar and was a very happy camper saying the place had the best fruit selection of all the buffets we'd been to (er...it was your traditional fruits with some whole oranges thrown in? I think he was just missing oranges!). The bread pudding was very good - nice traditional bread pudding. I also enjoyed the pastry on the fruit tart and the cheesecake.

Despite not caring a whole lot for the characters or the ridiculous noise in the place - we enjoyed our dinner and were happy we chose it. Don't think we'll go out of our way to go back - but it was a very good choice for us.

Welcome to another August Dis'er! Yeah for Free DDP :thumbsup2 For sure, depends on what you are looking for. I agree, thought the salad selection was good; also agree it was quite noisy.
I think it may depend on the day (heard that the buffets vary with what they serve). Glad that you had a good dining experience though.
The rest for us, overall, were pretty great :)

That pasta does look yummy! I had something similar when we ate there a few years ago and I remember being impressed with the shrimp, too.

Isn't it a crime how subpar "regular" food seems when you first get home? :rotfl: And getting used to not having dessert with every meal is tough, too! ;)

Agree, had frozen fish for lunch and almost cried lol :rotfl2:
Jett is quite confused as to why he is not getting an ice cream sundae or chocolate cake after each meal - he claims it simply isnt fair.
I miss Disney food

Just took a sneak peak at your pre-trip dining report. Looks great. Oh, that Tonga toast!

What is better than shrimp and pasta? I have many of those types of meals in WDW and the plate was always loaded with shrimp...yum!

Agree shrimp and pasta is delish!

Hello again everyone!

On Day 4 we headed over to Epcot for the Day. Day 4 rained, a lot, like rain I have never seen before (courtesy of Hurricane Issac) - I know it could have been much worse so thankful it was just rain. We just wore our handy, dandy ponchos - my dad initially I guess thought he was too cool for ponchos but his tune soon changed.

For our lunch on Day 4 we had a later lunch split up. My mum, Jett and I ate at Sunshine Seasons while my dad and Amber managed to go to Electric Umbrella without getting too wet.

At Electric Umbrella my dad and Amber got surprise, surprise some chicken nuggets. They both claimed that these are the best on property and had more than once! The nuggets were tender, the fries were hot and the portions were very large. Both had the Chocolate Chips cookies and enjoyed. While I did not take a photo of their food I did snap one of the billboard and it ACTUALLY looks like the real thing.

My mum, Jett and I ate at Sunshine Seasons. As a vegetarian and foodie I absolutely LOVE this place. There are so many unique options, although I heard a number of people complain about their childrens choices (I thought they were okay but there were only 2 options for non-adventurous eaters - smuckers uncrustables (which I had never heard of here in Canada) and homemade mac and cheese). Wow, all my English teachers would kill me there - that was what we call a run on sentence! :P

I'll start with the easiest. Jett enjoyed a cup of Mac and Cheese. He said it was D-Licious, very cheesy and hot (he does not like his pasta even luke warm). I only took a picture of his, half eaten, Mac and Cheese but he got a yogurt and chocolate chip cookie for dessert.

My mum ordered the Turkey and Monterey Jack on a Panini with a side of chips and Tiramasu for dessert. She said it was one of the best meals from our trip. The chipotle mayonaise added a nice "zip" without making it spicy. It also had a large amount of turkey on it and the panini was huge!

I ordered the Oak Grilled Vegetable Flatbread Sandwich with a side of Potato salad and a strawberry shortcake. It was by far THE best Grilled Veg. Sandwich I have ever had! :worship: I believe it had portabello mushrooms, grilled eggplant and roasted red pepper (along with a large amount of feta cheese). The flavours were great and again the portion was huge. I ended up sharing my Strawberry Shortcake with the Jett (seems to be a theme on this trip). It was also yummy - the cake was moist (didnt taste like it had been sitting) and the strawberries were fresh tasting!
They also had Simply Orange Juice which was an added bonus :thumbsup2

I would definately recommend Sunshine Seasons! A little more expensive than the typical CS (for those not on DDP) but I say well worth it for the portions and quality of food.
Up next our dining adventure in Norway later in the day! Uh oh... no chicken nuggets! :scared1:

Forgot to mention about the Potato Salad. I dont know exactly how to describe it. It was very good though - the potatoes were perfectly cooked and there were red onions (my favourite vegetable - I could eat them everyday) and there was an oil type dressing on top.

Loving reading your reviews!! Especially the dole whip one!! I tried one for the first time this trip and went back for like three more!! :cloud9: Definitely a must do for me now.
I had to laugh when I read about your rain experience in Epcot. We were there at the same time and I can totally identify with it!! We got soaked a couple of times due to Isaac.

Keep the reviews coming...

I know, I agree they are heavenly lol. I only wish we had discovered them earlier. I only wish they sold them outside of Disney property. I was tempted to add some Dole pineapple juice to some DQ soft serve to make the float but dont think it will be quite the same ;)

Ah, were you in Epcot that day? Seemed a LOT of people were in Epcot that day.

I love Mickey pretzels. With or without cream cheese!! Great pictures!

My grandson, 7 is a chicken nugget eater also. He will eat the adult cheese pizza at pizza planet or pizzafari, so we buy him one out of pocket at those spots. My younger grandson is a bit less picky, but not much!

I hate that the kid meal chicken nuggets are not the same as the adults, as they are very good. That means that there are many times I end up eating chicken nuggets, to share with my grandson.

Also love the strawberry shortcake at Sunshine seasons! We usually end up eating in 'the world', but I have been known to sneak in a piece of shortcake a time or two.

Looking forward to more!
