When I left off, we had just finished dinner at Crystal Palace and were just about done with our day. A great day, in fact, but it was about to get much worse.

Back at the hotel, I'm in the bathroom and I notice that there is a terrible build-up of dust on the air vent. Certainly not becoming of the Haul Away Sin; very much contrary to its reputation as a hotel chain. We also had a problem with our refrigerator, but they apparently fixed that, because after I complained it worked like a charm.

Friday April 30th- the onset of Strife

Our original plan was to go to Epcot and take Saturday off, but we ended up changing these two days around, so we just went for a drive and did some shopping. We drove a ways up Orange Blossom Tr. and eventually stopped at Bennigan's for lunch. This is where it all began.

Shortly after our food arrived John starts acting funny. No big deal, he's 2 1/2 and he's just feeling confined in the restaurant. Wrong.
A few minutes later, the food he had just eaten miraculously reappeared from his stomach (how's that for candy-coating the fact that he barfed? lol). Still not sensing the problems we would encounter in the next 48 hours, rather just writing it off as a bad reaction coupled with the heat and excitement, we cleaned him up and went on our way with no further incidents that day. Still, we wanted to be sure he was okay, so we went back to the hotel.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot... when I went to complain about the fridge I also had a second complaint. On Friday morning I was sitting in one of the chairs in our room just minding my own business and tying my shoes when all of a sudden CRASH!!! The chair broke and dumped me on my backside.

At this point we were just lazy so we ordered room service. Pizza, breadsticks and chicken. Now, I don't care how busy you are, it should not take more than an hour to deliver this meal 1,500 feet, but it did. Luckily it was good or I may have lost it.

But wait, it gets worse.

Saturday, May 1st- Beverly

John seemed okay, so we headed to Epcot. Neither Tricia or myself were overly enamored with the idea, but you can't go there and NOT go to Epcot, so we went and we did enjoy it to a degree, although we would soon learn that she had an evil plan up her sleeve.

After a somewhat uneventful trip around the world Tricia sees an ice cave and says "Let's go in here." I have no idea at the time, but I am being set up. Besides, it's hot outside and the thought of an ice cave was pretty inviting. So like a sheep I head into this cave where unbeknownst to me (but knownst to my DW) I am about to have my taste buds ambushed.

I'm sure many of you know where this is headed, but if you don't, please read this and remember it... when you get to the end of this cave DO NOT DRINK FROM THE ONE CALLED BEVERLY! I REPEAT, DO NOT DRINK BEVERLY! There is an open fountain containing different sodas from around the world which cater to local tastes and such. I tried them all and liked most. For some reason, the very last one I tried was this one called Beverly. Not wanting to leave any stone unturned (stupid hindsight) I poured myself what is, thankfully, a very small dose of Beverly and took a drink.

If you have ever seen or used Dave Marx's PassPorter you know that on the trip notes pages there are two particular entries "Today we tried___________" and "and the result was______." In my notes, it says we tried Beverly Soda and the result was, and I quote, "OMG! ***!?"

I soon found out two things... one, that Tricia knew that Beverly would garner some sort of reaction from me, she didn't know what, but she thought it would be funny, and two, I now know what sour battery acid tastes like, although I wish I didn't.

This is where the trip took another decided turn for the worse. After we left Epcot we went to Sizzler for dinner (hey, I like Sizzler).
Toward the end of dinner, John had another mass evacuation of the food he had previously eaten, but this one was far worse than at Bennigans. From that point and through the night he got worse with a temperature spiking as high as 103. He also had two more episodes. Now we are worried.

Sunday May 2nd- The only thing we could do.

Today was supposed to be our MGM day, and we were also going to meet up with TLinden16, One-Cat and his DW at Mama Melroses with PS for Fantasmic, but things changed.

John was still running a terrible fever, and at that time we decided that enough was enough, so off to Florida Hospital. After 4-5 hours we discovered that he had most likely just picked up a bug that according to the RN, Tammy, was "...running rampant through the parks right now." Certainly a relief, but it scared the helicopter out of us. Eventually, with the help of some relaxed nerves on our part and a Tylenol suppository, we broke the fever and finally got John some rest.

Monday May 3rd- 100% better

By Monday morning, John was feeling better and pretty much back to his old self. A relief to all three of us to be sure. We went out and had lunch at ESPN Club, walked the Boardwalk a little bit, and then went and checked out Pop Century, where we are staying on our next trip in February. Since John took this all so well, we decided to go to MGM. This was the park I wanted to go to all along, so I probably had the most fun, but Tricia enjoyed it too. The best (although simultaneously most frustrating) part was at Millionaire where I finished 8th with almost a full audience. Had I not missed two questions, maybe I could have landed in the Hot Seat. Grrrrr. Maybe next time.

Tuesday May 4th- Going home

Our trip home was uneventful. We stopped at WalMart and had our pictures done so we already have them. They came out great. I'm sure Tricia will be posting them soon. Thanks for reading. Not bad overall for a first trip, but I will NEVER stay at the Haul Away Sin pain hate beast again, and I will NEVER drink Beverly Soda again.

LOL!! Thanks for the laugh. Funniest report I have read in a while.

Very good, Paul. :) Glad you, Tricia and John fianlly got to WDW for your first ever. Those 'first evers' do create lasting memories, LOL. Got a kick out of Lance in the first report. :) And sounds like a good time at the parks overall, though Beverly can be nasty. :)

Looking forward to some pictures from Tricia. Time to plan the Feb trip.

Sorry that the One_Cats and I didn't get to meet you, Paul! We were looking forward to it! Glad that John is doing better.

Just as an aside to everyone, Disney was very good about letting us cancel Paul's Fantasmic dinner package reservation without a penalty when I called and explained the situation. Of course, Paul and his family wound up lucking out in a way that night--Fantasmic wound up being cancelled because of lightning in the area, so the One_Cat's and I had an expensive dinner at Mama Melrose's for nothing.

The Beverly part was funny, I'm still laughing.

I stumbled upon the ice house and a CM was guiding everyone in.

I didn't drink any of the flavored coke, cause I really don't like coke to begin with, but I think their is a lot of spittin going on in the place, cause my feet stuck to the floor all the way out of the entrance.

My 13 yo DD had to try Beverly even after I warned her. Then she turned to DH and said, "Hey, try this--it tastes like feet!" Then HE tried it. They are actually quite intelligent people but I'm not sure why you'd try something after a glowing testimonial like that!

Thanks for the report!
