Good morning:goodvibes

I'm far too tired to be up this early. My husband woke me up from deep sleep to go put down one of the shutters upstairs. I also managed to get a huge bruise on my leg because I was too tired to look where I was going:headache:

Sandy is something else.....all day yesterday it was much calmer and she was moving away from us. People started the clean up process, I let my cat out, cleaned up the house etc. We did know that the wind would start picking up again...technically the back of the hurricane, but on the radar it doesn't look like there is anything over us:confused3 Well, it is blowing a hurricane out there again and this is just getting ridiculous:mad:

I guess it is time to introduce myself and tell you a little about 'discookiemonsta':) My 'real' name is Samantha and I'm originally from Austria. When I was 9 years old I was adopted from my uncle (who happened to have moved from Austria to Canada to the Bahamas) who lived on Paradise Island/Bahamas with his family. I went to college in Austria and moved back 'home' to the Bahamas. I ended up visiting a friend here in Abaco(which is an island chain of smaller islands) and this is where I met my husband! I am a stay at home mom and I teach Spanish at the highschool here (11 kids in the whole school!). We have two girls, a 9 year old (she has Type 1 Diabetes) and a 6 year old. We started going to Disney when our 9 year old was only 18 months old and we've gone about once a year since then!

We have been to Disney in the months of November, May, June and December, but have never actually spent Christmas at Disney so this is very exciting for us:cheer2:

Hey there,

I have been meaning to ask you what either brought you to the Bahamas or if you were born there. Austria to Bahamas-talk about culture clash! What did you think of Austria?

Glad you and yours and your cat are safe.

Happy Saturday everyone! What are everyone's plans for today?

I just got home from doing 4 hours of overtime at work and am thinking about taking a nap. I have a family Halloween Party tonight that I am looking forward to.

Nice to officially meet you Samantha :goodvibes Your upbringing sounds interesting, and unique for sure. Glad you are all doing well, and I hope Sandy passes you soon, with an easy clean-up and power back soon.

I absolutely love Austria!!! Especially the 4 seasons:) Not to mention all the delicious food, lol. Both my husband and our girls have been to Austria a few times, both in the summer and winter and they really like it. I'm from Vienna so being from a big city is completely different than where I am living now, that's for sure!

For anyone in Sandy's path, all I can tell you is to watch out and take the warnings seriously. We are still experiencing tropical storm force winds even though she passed us a long time ago. During the night we experienced winds over 70mph (went up to 125mph at the worst part two nights ago) We are unable to get power anytime soon because the crews cannot come out to fix anything until the winds calm down. It is truly getting ridiculous:furious:

Sending lots of positive thoughts to any of you in her path:goodvibes

My goodness it's cold here today! I newly froze my rear off at soccer this morning. 45 degrees and windy. We aren't used to this here! Lol

Hope everyone is safe in Sandys path.

Nothing much going on here today save a big ball game tonight. This Alabama native is hoping for a big win, or I'll never hear the end of it from these ms folks!

Where do you live? Hope I haven't already asked that, but I always look at the post name and most say where they are living. It helps with the puzzle in my head! lol :rotfl:

Central Mississippi.

The calm before the storm?

I've had my map out looking at where the storm is tracking. I have a son that moved a year ago from California to WV and it looks like the will just be getting rain, who knows. :confused3

My DS 12 and I went to Europe in August, I had never really been out of the US. We flew to Barcelona (13 hours!) went to France, through Italy and Croatia. It was fantastic, a great experience! I would love to travel to Austria, the British Isles all throughout the Baltic. Ah, someday.

I used to dread flying to Hawaii or even Florida, 5 hours, but since flying to Europe I think flying to Florida, piece of cake! lol flying from Maui to MCO, wow, that is a long flight!

I actually think living in England would be awesome, there are so many places to travel to and nothing is too far away. Of course I'm not sure, I was born and raised in So Cal.

Well Samantha you write very well and I would have guessed you American, you know with the English and all, haha. Although Canada is suppose to have the best schools in the world, at present time.

I know as far as weather is concerned, I have nothing to complain about, but it is 90 degrees here today, way too hot for me!

It is time for me to hit the gym. Take care everyone :tink:

Hey guys just popping in quickly - busy day!

DD had a car wash this morning for her GS troop so was up at 7am for that, got back then off to soccer (my DH is a soccer coach for 7yr olds) back home now but soon leaving again to drop off DD to a murder mystery dinner for girl scouts. They can wear their halloween costumes so she's getting dressed now.

Its freezing here today!

Since you and Sandy have already met - can you tell her to calm down.... Think she will listen?

Honestly? NO, I don't think she will listen :sad2: I really wish she would calm down or better yet, go out to sea never to be seen or heard from again!!! I really hope and pray she doesn't cause too much trouble anymore (for anyone else left in her path)!

It's great that you took your DS to visit Europe! My dream is to spend some time in Italy.

I was 9 when I moved to the Bahamas so English seems more like my first language. I do speak German, but since I don't use it as often, not as fluently as English!

I have been to England before. My two adopted brothers both live there. It is nice there, but they have a lot of gloomy weather, which makes me miserable, lol.

It seems to me that quite a few of you might be affected by this hurricane :sad2:

Do me a favour please. Could you quote this and let me know if it could affect you and whereabouts you are? I just like to know who I need to keep in my thoughts .... I would hate to be frillying around not knowing that someone out there needs my positive vibes.

Thank you :goodvibes

We are forecast for the backside of a direct hit on NJ. We are in PA about 40 out of Philadelphia. We are forecast for VERY high winds and a LOT of rain. Good chance of flooding and power outages, maybe for up to a week. Hoping not but we are kind of prepared just in case. Luckily for us we have a Walmart (within walking distance), Target, 2 food stores and a lot of mini markets. So we'll see what happens I guess

Apparently the storm is a hybrid hurricane-nor'easter now. Meaning that by Tuesday ( when we have no power) we could see snow. Seriously, snow from a tropical storm?!!?

Off to run my errands.

Yeah this storm is going to have it all. it's gonna be fun.

Today we took the boys to the Philadelphia Zoo for Boo at the Zoo. They got to wear their costumes and they handed out candy and treats all over the zoo. Now we are watching Madagascar 3 for the second time.

That sounds like fun! Tomorrow we are going to a festival at the Shelburne Museum in VT - this years theme Sci Fi :) hoping to beat out the rain!

I love the Philadelphia Zoo - we are talking about going to visit family in the spring and might go there or to the Franklin Institute.

Tonight I've been cooking- making extra food to freeze so I don't have to go grocery shopping when we get home from Disney!! Well at least not a full shopping day....

She really doesn't know how to make friends does she?
