Parks closing for capacity

I know the parks are known to close for capacity around holidays, we were in MK one day when it closed Columbus Day weekend. What are your thoughts on the end of May- any likelihood that it could happen?

Not unless it's around a holiday. I don't think Memorial Day crowds are as bad as Christmas.

Unless some special event like Pandora opening on Memorial Day, I would think it's doubtful.

MK has reached final stages of closing much less frequently since they opened NFL. (Although parking at TTC still has issues)

Are you staying on site or are you AP holders? If so then you're fine.

You probably experienced a phase 2 closure. When it gets above that it's usually only on NYE, Christmas, or Easter.

Phase 4 is when a park fully closes and last time that happened was at MK in 2009

We are considering staying off property for the first time ever. When we experienced the closure it was October of 2009. We were already in the park, so it didn't effect us, except that it was so packed we could barely move.

You should still be fine.

Without being on site or having AP's, you'd be good up until a phase 3. For just having single or multi day tickets and getting in past a phase 1 you'd have to have park hoppers and be hopping from one park to the phased closure one, preferably by Disney transportation. Or have a reservation already inside the park.

You make a good point, though, about park hoppers, and a good case for purchasing them, so if one does close we can still enjoy our day.

I usually suggest getting an adr to ensure you get in and to ensure you have a comfortable place to eat at some point if your expecting that day to be that crowded. Long before phase 1 closing, the place is beyond crowded and eating becomes a challenge even with all the extra quick services opened.

We use to go to MK every Christmas Day for lunch. Even with ADR, we could not be guaranteed entrance. We always made it in time. But often wasted time because of having to park at Epcot when TTC closed periodically and same with monorail. Then standing outside MK as they periodically let guests in.

Never made rope drop because the kids wanted to play with their presents, so usually scheduled lunch for 2pm and arrived on property around 11am.

Since we are a rope drop family (getting there even 30 minutes before RD), would any type of closure ever affect us? Since we are already in the park (and never leave), I assume the closures during the day around the holidays would only affect the later arrivals.

We've been to WDW every Memorial Day weekend for the past 4 years. I have never, ever experienced a park closure during that weekend. As PP noted, unless there is some very, special event, it is highly unlikely you will experience a closure in May.

Since we are a rope drop family (getting there even 30 minutes before RD), would any type of closure ever affect us? Since we are already in the park (and never leave), I assume the closures during the day around the holidays would only affect the later arrivals.

No you would not be affected. Anytime closures happen it's usually around like 10am-2pm

We are seriously considering getting AP's for the first time ever, because we will be going in May 2017 and then plan to return for Mardi Gras in Feb 2018. Thanks for all the replies. As a whole posters on this site are always super helpful.
