Parking for ADR's at resort -- then on to the park....

Several times during our WDW trip I have ADR's booked at a resort that has gated parking (Whispering Canyon, Ohana, Kona). Can we leave our car parked at the resort and take the monorail or boat on to the parks? Or will this be a problem?

During the holidays, the guards have your names down for the ADR's. They will give you a 2 hour pass to park in the parking lot. I have seen them tow people away if you didn't have that resort sticker or were longer than the time limit. Espacially during the holdiday season. If you are staying at WDW, your best bet is to just leave the car and take WDW transportation.

Unfortunately we are staying off-site. The kids really want to ride the boat from Fort Wilderness. Does it run straight up to the resort? It isn't that big of a deal to go on the monorail to the entrance of MK and take the boat over - or is there a better way?

Give you a little hint.... If you go to the Ft. Wilderness Campgrounds, there is 2 entrances.... Go to the second one (without the guard shack). If you go to the one that has the guard shack you are at the wrong one... You can park there and take the buses from there. Not only will it save you money, but you will be able to take the boat over to MK. Consider that my holiday gift to you!

Don't park at the Poly. You will get towed. Personally I think you should have to pay and park in the park lots like everyone else that is offsite.

i know this doesn't really help the OP, but can't you park at the Boardwalk since its a "nighttime entertainment district?"

Park at the resort and pay the $8 to valet and I think you would be fine...

Since you are staying offsite, they will want to know why you are visiting the resorts. They will ask. The monorail reosrts will issue a 3 hour pass.

Just park at the TTC like everyone else and pay the parking fees like everyone else.

If you're just wanting to take the boat to Fort Wilderness, park at the TTC, take the boat or monorail to MK, then take the boat to/from Fort Wilderness.

We have annual passes, so I'm not trying to get in without paying. I just didn't want to spend the day driving from one place to the other - which is why I asked the question! I didn't know it was against the rules to leave your car at the hotel. Goodness, was the rude response really necessary? Try and remember that some people have no choice but to stay offsite (due to cost or ability to get reservations). Your response sure sounded snobbish towards those who stay offsite. The information that you aren't supposed to leave your car at a hotel could have been shared so much more nicely. I sure hope the people at WDW when we visit are nicer than you have been!

I think this sounds like the best plan. Does the boat drop you off at the resort?

I wasn't rude. I was to the point. There are so many that come on this board trying to beat the system of not paying to parking fee. It gets old. I and everyone else that pays to stay at a MK resort have to put up with the cheapskates that try everything they can to get out of paying the measly $8 park fee therefore taking up spaces that WE have paid for. I have nothing against those that stay offsite. I used to be that foolish years ago myself so been there done that. :rotfl:

Resort parking is for guests of the resort or those visiting the restaurants. It is not for parking to go to the parks.

As others have said, you will be able to park there while having your meal but would have to move your vehicle after that unless you valet park. I think the valet parking thing is okay.

If you are eating at a monorail resort, the best thing to do is probably to park at TTC and then take the monorail to the resort you are visiting. Then you won't have to move your car.

But you jumped to conclusions and assumed the OP was "trying to beat the system". The post clearly asked if this would be a problem. Seems like an innocent question to me. A little kindness goes a long way.

It's a measly $9 parking fee. I'd be very cautious if the parking is done during the holidays or busy times, they will keep track. Valet parking might help.

They all pose as an innocent question. So for once it was an innocent question. I still wasn't rude. I was to the point.

Yes, there's a boat that stops at the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. And there's a seperate boat that stops at the Grand Floridian & Poly. Both dock in front of the Magic Kingdom, not TTC. Your Whispering Canyon dinner will be at Wilderness Lodge and Ohana & Kona at the Poly. Have a great trip!

You know, I decided only a couple of weeks ago to take this trip. This is the first time I've planned it myself, as my father has always made all the arrangements before. I'd just follow where he lead. [He passed away late last spring -- this is a trip to celebrate his life and the last vacation we all had together as a family.]

Although I couldn't get resort reservations (did get a 3 bedroom condo offsite) I have been having a wonderful time making ADR's to make this a special trip for my kids. Visiting this site several times a day was really feeding my 'Magic' mood! Your post really made me feel bad -- like I was trying to do something terrible. [Yeah, I know, I shouldn't let someone on an internet forum affect me like that, but I guess that is how I'm made.]

It is obvious you feel taken advantage of, but I can't imagine the cynicism is really all that warranted -- I mean have you really not had a place to park when you stayed on site or something? I hope you consider my story the next time someone asks 'an innocent question'. Try giving them the benefit of the doubt. You attract more flys with honey anyway.

Not to condone any responses, but this question does come up a lot on these boards and then people will get into a fight about who can park where and exactly how to beat paying for parking. So when people see the same topic, we will usually give the same response with all the same warnings and suggestions on not to do it. After a while the posts will get pointed and could be misinterperted if others don't know the full history.

It isn't wise to park in the resort lots past the allotted time during the holiday time. They will have tow trucks come through and we have seen cars being towed. It will not be a good end to the day if this happens.

Enjoy your trip.
