Parking at Port

Since we are planning a stay at WDW both before and after our 4 day cruise, I'm comparing prices. Is there parking at Port Canaveral? Fairly secure? Anyone know the price? With the price of transfers and my recently developed need for private transport while at WDW (don't ask about the horrors of WL buses and boats), the price comparison is pretty close.

Thanks for the helping a newbie cruiser!

Hi! We're new to cruising also and I checked out Disney's cruise line web site for info on parking prices at port canaveral. On the web site it says $8.00 per day for parking (secure). My TA said parking there is secure (she's done it) and she recommends it if you're driving in. The other option we were told about was staying at the Radisson and letting them shuttle us over but I don't think we will do that. Hopefully this helps. Maybe some of the veteran cruisers can give more info.:D

We have driven in and used the terminal parking 2 times. It may be false security but I like a fence around my car while I am gone.
The only discerning thing I saw was the sign at the guard house warning about ants invading your car if you leave food in it. Be sure and remove all food, gum and beveages as you leave.
Have a great trip,
Russ

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'm sure I'll be asking a lot more questions as the date of the cruise approaches.

Hello

We have used the port lot twice now. We have never had any problems at all. We don't leave food in the car anyway as the heat can get so bad. My DH usually drops us and the bags off at the terminal and then drops the car off. He comes back across the sidewalk and we are on our way to check in.

I am also considering parking at the port.

For those of you who have parked in the lot at the port, how far do you have to walk with your bags? Where do your bags go?

When we cruised before, we took the Radisson van over and we were told what to do (we walked like 10 feet). Is was pretty easy.

The only bags you will be carrying are your carry on bags. When you get to the terminal :
You will pull up to the curb and open your trunk or hatch
A luggage handler will appear and check all your luggage for tags
He will then take them and leave (tip is in order here)
You will drive approximatly 50-60 yards and park.
You will pay as you drive through the guard house ($8 per day) cash only last time we were there.
Walk or run back to the terminal to start your vacation.

Hope this helps,
Russ

We always park at the terminal and it's safe and easy. I've heard they don't let you park as close as before since 9/11, but someone who has done it recently would have to clarify. Anyway, last year we did indeed get invaded by ants! We didn't really leave food in the car, but we had a few candy wrappers and empty McDonald wrappers that motivated the ants. They were mostly on the garbage in the on floorboard, so I threw the garbage out and beat the floormat on the parking lot until the ants were thoroughly crushed. That'll teach me to be sloppy --- I'd never leave garbage in my own car -- it was a rental!

Yes, the close-in lots are no longer available. Click on the terminal layout link I listed above. The availability of lots is shown.

We just got back, and to our surprise they DID let us park in the lot right next to the terminal (in the "this parking lot is closed" lot on Dave's map). The porter who took our bags told me to stay in the left lane and told me I might be allowed in the lot, and sure enough I was waved into the lot. I didn't think to ask why or whether it was a change in policy... I just wanted to get on board!

BTW Dave, thank you for all of the great info on your site. It really helps!
