So here's the situation. My family and I are driving down and staying at Desert Inn in November and was suppose to have family flying in to join us. Now those family members might not be able to make it and so as not to waste the extra three sleeping spaces we will have in our room we want to invite different family members. However, the new family members are in driving distance and since Desert Inn only allows one parking spot per room I was wondering if there is a close by public parking garage, and if there is how much is it? Has anyone out there ran into this problem and how did you solve it? It would really stink not being able to have any family join us just because they don't have a place to park their car. Thanks for any insight to this little problem!

Desert Inn is directly across the street from Disneyland. And Disneyland does have parking garages, so if they were to join you they could always just park in the Disney Garage?

oh, I wasn't aware that disneyland had a parking garage. does anyone have any info on this, like a phone number or cost or anything? Thanks so much!!!

Not overnight! I think they want the family to stay with them in the extra beds in their room. I THINK you can pay to park at the Anaheim Plaza down the street. Ask Desert Inn where they send people with an extra car.

There's a Hilton with a parking garage down the street; that's where the people at the Desert Inn told us to put our extra car. It's $15 a day.

What DesertBell said.

I called cuz we have three suites....obviously needing more than one car per room. The guy was a jerk and very snootily said that we can park at the Hilton for 15 bucks a day.

*grumble*

you shoulda said

"Well ok I think I will also just stay at the Hilton too, can I speak to a manager about canceling my reservations thanks."

Oh believe you me, if I was the one paying for the trip that would've been the FIRST thing out of my mouth. *sigh*

Are you really set on staying at Desert Inn? If not, you could check around and look at available rooms and rates for other hotels. November is still far enough away that there should be openings. Another thing you could do is see if Desert Inn has two smaller rooms available and exchange them for the suite. That way you would get 2 parking spaces.

I can't believe they will only allow 1 space per room when they have suites. If your rooms sleeps 8, how are you supposed to fit 8 people in 1 car? If you do decide to switch hotels, be sure to tell them why you are cancelling your reservation. They need to know that their policy is making people want to stay elsewhere.

I think it's just that they don't have a choice- they have a teeny tiny parking lot.

Having just returned (Sat-Tues) from this hotel, they do NOT have enough spaces. For instance, if you check in early, and park, what about the people checking out and leaving their car? In effect, 2 spots for 1 room during that day. Yeah, we parked and didn't move the car the whole weekend. Walked everywhere, which was ok, but when you have tired feet, who wants to walk to the new Garden Walk, no matter how close?

ok so looking at the map...........

the hilton is like..WAY down there..

um. what?!

Think it's possible to hop on one of the shuttles? hehe

Seriously though, the walk back to the room is sooooooooo worth it at the end of a long day!

So you're saying that it's still worth it to stay there for it's closeness?

Cuz I really want that to be true LOL

Yes. Totally.

If I could get the Ent. Rate, we would stay there for our upcoming trips.

We really like this hotel, we have never had any issues here, but the parking is a pain.

We took afternoon breaks this week. I don't think I would have done this if I was staying at HoJo, but then I'm lazy. :rolleyes2

We even stayed in just the regular room this time, with 2 Q beds, and those rooms are at the very back of the property.

The parking at DI sucks. FWIW, I was told that you can't check out and leave your car to go to the parks because their lot is too small for the amount of rooms they offer, and that they will tow. If you dare take your car out to go do anything else, good luck finding a spot. We were told that we would have to pay for parking even though we only had one car, and they ran out of parking spaces. How can you offer free parking for guests and then tell them, oops, sorry we ran out and now you have to drive way down the street to park and walk back?
I won't stay there because their customer service (nothing to do w/ parking)sucks as well. They know they'll sell out because of their location to the parks, so they don't care if you have any complaints or threaten to change hotels. Really, they don't. After experiencing their lack of customer service and then going over to Hojos, I could never go back to the Desert(ed) Inn and Suites.

Good. I'll stop being so worried about it.

Wow, thanks everyone for all of the input!! After I posted this yesterday I read another thread that informed me that Jetblue now lands in Long Beach and I am thinking that my family from UT can just fly down, it will be just about the same price, if not cheaper, anyway. For those of you who asked if I was willing to switch hotels, I'm not really. I like the price and location of Desert Inn. I don't want a long walk with a 2 year old and I don't want to deal with the shuttles again. You guys are great! Thanks again!

I know this. You are GUARANTEED 1 spot per room. If they "run out" someone is cheating. I have never had a problem finding a spot even when busy. Yes parking is tight but it's exactly the same at BWPPI and many others on Harbor.

As for keeping you car there, they will let you up to about 3pm. Same as other hotels. Not sure why this is such an issue.
