How does this work? Here's why - we are all staying at OKW for five nights in a 2 bedroom, then on the weekend (2 nights) we are moving to another resort (not sure yet), and it will be on the weekend when we're thinking of getting the DDP - I know you have to buy one day park ticket each - we'll already have a 10-day park hopper that we are pre-purchasing. How does that work when you buy the DDP for two days - do they just look at your passes, swipe your passes, show your receipt, or do you have to buy a separate day pass? Thanks - never purchased DDP before - I know everything else about it, just not the process of actually paying for it.

couple of questions for you - are you DVC members? The reason I ask is that it sounds like you might do better with an AP rather than a 10 day hopper. DVC members get a discount on the AP.

AP holders are also eligible to purchase the DDE )Disney Dining Experience) that provides a 20% discount on particiapting TS and CS meals, including alcohol. (There are also many discounts for AP room rates)

For the DDP purchase, you have to book the Magic Your Way package plus dining. Your room key will have the DDP credits on it. You typically pay rack rate for the room and then the $$ for the DDP plus passes.

You present your card to the server or cashier and they take the credits off.

We skip the DDP and use the DDE card both when we stay at DVC resorts and if we weekend at at the other resorts. Better rate for us.

As a DVC member you can purchase the DDP without having to buy a MYW Base Ticket. Or at least that's what I understood.

Correct. But the OP is asking if they have to purchase a ticket when they move to another resort and want to purchase the DDP. The answer is they would have to purchase another ticket if they aren't staying as DVC guests I believe. If they are staying as a "cash" guest and not on points, I don't think a DVC owner is treated any differently than a regular guest.

This is from allearsnet.com

2. If you are a Disney Vacation Club member staying at a DVC resort on points, you may purchase the Dining Plan. You must purchase the Dining Plan for everyone in your party. No purchase of park admission is necessary. The number of dining plan days will equal the number of nights of your stay.

I should have been more clear - we are DVC members, and we do have annual passes - our friends staying with us are not DVC members and have 10 day park hoppers. We are moving away from DVC for the weekend (points too high) and staying at either WL or AKL - I need to know if buying the DDP for the two nights, do our friends need to buy another park ticket, or do they just show their 10-day hoppers that aren't on a room key? What proof does Disney require when you purchase the DDP that you have a park ticket for at least one day?

Yes, they have to buy another park ticket.

When you make the reservation for the room, you have to make a reservation for a PACKAGE. One of the components of the package is a park ticket. So, when the reservation is made, the cost will be based on the room rate, dining plan cost per day and the cost of the tickets purchased. Everyone in the room must be on the same package.

Thanks for the answer - guess we're all eating OOP for the weekend, then back to my glorious kitchen at OKW afterwards!!!

Have you purchased the DDE card you are eligible to buy with your AP? It's 20% off food and beverages and can really save you some money once you recoup the cost of the card.

I assume you are staying at OKW Sun. night thru Thursday night, checking into WL or AKL for Fri. nt & Sat. nt., then back into OKW starting the next Sunday? Don't forget that your DDP credits for the first 5-night stay won't expire until the end of Friday, and if you are getting the DDP for your second stay at OKW, you can check in Sunday morning & get the DDP activated even though your villa won't be ready to occupy yet. So depending on how you use your credits you might only have 1 day (Sat.) w/o any DDP credits to use.
