I have a question. Why is it, that Disney has so many wonderful park perks, for non-dvc members to book vacations and get free park passes and they never offer any of these options to the dvc members? Really, when the attendance is slow during thse recession times, we are still paying our taxes. So, why cant they offer us some of these perks?

Over the life of your DVC contract I think you come in way ahead of the game... it just seems like in times like these that the non-dvc folks are getting a better deal...

They are not perks - they are marketing promos carefully put in place to secure more bookings. They already have our money, so they offer perks or rewards to us such as: ticket, food, shopping and recreation discounts. Why would they offer people who already have secured accommodations discounts on accommodations? We don't need discounts on accommodations, as we already have those, but perks, although they may be small (although the AP perk is great!), for dining, shopping or recreation discounts to DVC members makes sense, IMHO.

I know it seems frustrating, but as said above, we as DVC members will come out way ahead in the end. These promos are only being used due to a faltering economy. I remember for years there were no discounts or promos of any kind, yet DVC people were still getting member perks of some kind. You need to remember that the non-DVC promos are not rewards, but marketing ploys used to get more guests into the parks during struggling times.

What perks are you speaking of? Where are they giving out free passes??

Couldn't you still book those offers? If the ad appeals to you -- play along, plug in the needed variables and see if it still works out to be a great deal. If it does, book it.

OTOH, the Give a Day, Get a Day promotion is available to DVC members as well as the general public.

I am thrilled with the discount DVC members get on annual passes. The general public doesn't get any discount on those.

DVC members do not have to buy tickets to get the Dining Plan, do not have to stay a minimum number of days and do not have to pay peak season pricing for it.

I'm sure there are other perks we get that the general public doesn't.

In many cases, we get a better deal overall than the guests who book the specials. Keep in mind that those discounts will rapidly decease the instant Disney doesn't need them to fill the rooms. Our discount is for the life of our contract.

So, is the glass half empty or is it really half full? It's all in how you look at it. :)

yeah, i got a free gift card on my birthday in 2009...while i was staying in a partial-MK-view room at the BLT for about $120 per night tax included.

take that, general public! ;)

I know it sounds like a broken record, but "as/when the economy improves" and people start being more free with their cash again (and they will) you will start to see less discounts offered (or at least not 'year round' like it seems like right now). Or they wont be as deep of discounts. Sure right now it can be depressing to see some of the rates for rooms via cash, and know how much you are paying in just fees. But I'm sure in a couple of years my DVC purchase will look much better.
