Park Hopping Feature Question

Why do you think there is a charge for the Park Hopping feature on the new MYW passes?

Does anyone else think that Disney might add this charge to gain some profit for people not spending money because they are not in a park while they are actually "hopping" or taking a break between parks?

I would think firstly, it's because they can. I would also guess it's about offsetting the cost of Disney Transportation.

I would imagine that they've stripped the pricing down to bare bones.
The parkhopping cost used to be built into the cost of the tickets (parkhopper tickets, anyway).
Now the ticket structure is like an Ikea ticket - all the pieces are right there in front of you, its just up to you to put it together how YOU want it.

They way I see it, they're not "suddenly" charging for the park hopping, they're "suddenly" allowing people to opt out of it.

I agree Tabetha. This actually doesn't make Disney more money. I have 7-day park hopper plus tickets. By getting the equivalent in MYW tickets with park hopping feature, I save $90 per ticket. I think they did it because people like me have been wishing they would. It gives people more choices.

I think it is because many people don't use that feature (park hopping) so guest feedback indicated it was something not every one wanted to pay for.

My family and I (or my friends and I) rarely visit more than one park a day. Usually, we try to see everything we can in that park and move onto another park the next day. I think it's great, I don't usually park hop, so I don't have to pay for that priviledge, if you choose to park hop, you pay.

Notice that the park hopping option starts up at the same time that the new EMH hours do. There are a few days during the week when on-site guests can do both morning and evening EMH, or many people will just hop to the evening EMH park even if they don't do the morning EMH. It makes you more likely to "buy" that park hopping feature.

I don't think Disney does anything unless they are going to make money from it. The real money making option for them is that it only costs a little more for people to go 6 or 7 days instead of just 5 days. That will keep people in the resorts longer and buying more food and souvenirs. It also will keep people away from non-disney orlando attractions.

I think everyone has sort of hit on it. My theory is of course the whole MYW scheme is to make money over the big picture, its called marketing.

However they have also been as fair as possible by actually lowering the base price and giving families on a budget many different options for saving some money.
If you look at the breakout they are certainly encouraging longer and more frequent stays.

The 4 and 5 day hopper equivalents have gone up however a 10-day hopper is now around $140 dollars cheaper than 2 old 5 day hoppers.

So plan ahead and budget accordingly and the plan can save a family quite a bit of money

I agree,

Look at the many facits of this plan:

1) Lower cost of entry - net result... more people are attracted to WDW
2) Encourages longer and more frequent stays - net results... WDW gets a greater percentage of your vacation time and dollars
3) Attractive upgrade options - net result... more revenue without adding any significant cost.

I think that WDW will win financially on several fronts with MYW tickets. I also think it is good for people trying to control costs, or only interested in some aspects of what WDW has to offer.
