Park hopper vs. extra day on ticket?

For our family of seven, park hopper is going to run us an extra $250. Adding an extra day to our tickets would be less than $20. Could we use the extra day's ticket to go to a different park instead of park hopper? I can only see us using park hopper on one day of our trip, so is the extra day option do-able? Is it "legal"?

I know this has been asked before, but I could not find the answer. We bought park hopper last time (our first trip) and did not use it except one night when we went to MK to see Wishes.

The answer is No. Once you enter a park using a ticket, you can only reenter that same park (unless you have a park hopper). Your ticket will not work at another park

If you were to go to 2 parks in one day without the park hopper, it would take 2 days of park tickets, so I would assume, yes you could add on an extra day and use it to get into a second park on one day.

No, sorry eblack. You would actually be denied admission to the second park that day, if you don't have a park hopper. Once you use your non-park hopping pass at one park on a day, you may not use it at another park that day.

This is incorrect. As was pointed out, each "day" of a park ticket means just that. You cannot use two days of a ticket to visit two parks on one day.

The only exception is if you also bought the water park add on. You could go to one of the water parks/disney quest and one of the four theme parks. Without the hopper option you can only enter one of the major parks each day.

No you won't be able to do this, here is a good explanation from allears:

""Am I allowed to use two days off of my MYW Base ticket (non-hopping) if I decide I want to go to a second park on the same day as the first?

No you are not. The tickets are sold and the computer system is based on the number of days you have, not the number of park visits. Once you have used a non-park hopping ticket at any park, the computer system will not let you use it at another park on the same day.""

Go 3/4 the way down the page for the quote.

If you want to park hop you need to purchase the park hopping option. If your not sure don't purchase the hopper option in advance but instead just add it on any time if you find you want/need it.

You can go to two different theme parks using separate non-hopping tickets on different cards, but it is much more expensive this way.

You can go to two plus venues (water parks, etc.) or one theme park and one plus venue, using a ticket with enough water park fun visits remaining, and with or without hopping.
