Park Hopper upgrade to an AP ?

When we go down in November we already have a package deal with the tickets that include the park hopper, and we were gong to upgrade to an AP.

I know that we can apply the price of the tickets we have now to the AP, but I just want to make sure that I am planning the money set aside correctly - I was never known as being the one with the "math brains". I might also never figure out if there is that special Disney Math as well.

There are 3 of us (my son is 12) ,and for a 7 day with ph it would be $961.71 after tax. For the 3 APs it would be $1594.32 after tax. I would assume I can just take the $1594.32 and subtract the $961.71 and in the end at check in I would just owe them $632.61 ?

And that leads me to my other question - can I do this at check in, or do I have to go use the tickets atleast once and then I can do it?

Thanks for all your input in advance !

The advise I have seen is to .... use the passes at a park and go to Customer service and get the AP there, that way you get credited with the gate value of the passes.

First, you cannot do anything regarding an AP at the resort. APs can be sold only at Guest Relations at a park or Downtown Disney or a ticket window at a park.

Second, you should use them first and then upgrade. You bought your tickets at 2009 prices. The price has since increased. If you upgrade without using them first, you'll get credit for the 2009 price you paid. If you use them first, you'll get credit for the 2010 price you quoted above. Not a huge difference but every penny helps!

We recently moved to Florida. Let me see if I understand this - in September, my husband and I have an 8-day pass when we stay at POFQ, with the hopper option, after using the 8-day pass, we can apply that amount to an Annual Pass? That would be wonderful! Or am I interpreting this wrong?

I believe I read you have to do it all before your tickets are used up/expired, and when you do it, it will go back and your AP date will be the first day you used your tickets. We are going to do it on the first day we are there - before we spend the extra money on something else :)

You can upgrade a ticket for up to 14 days of first use. If the ticket was purchased prior to the price increase on Aug 5, make sure you use the ticket at least one time prior to upgrading so you receive the CURRENT value of the ticket. You can upgrade at any time during that time frame, you will get the value of the ticket applied whether you do it the first day or last.

Upgrading early in your trip will allow you to get AP discounts where offered

Because our reservations in September is on a "bounce-back" reservation, if we upgrade to an AP on the first day after entering a theme park, will this somehow void the free dining, since the 8-day pass is programmed into our hotel card key; or do they just give us a separate card for the AP in addition to our hotel card key? Hope, I'm not confusing anyone. :confused3

You will keep your original card for meals etc and get a new cardboard card as an AP. The AP gets you into the Park, the original gets you your dining and access to your room. Also E Magic hours you will scan the AP, but CM may also ask to see your room key (original card)

Thank you so much for the info!

Not quite. The AP is not "cardboard" and doesn't look like a KTTK card. It's actually a thin plastic called Tyvek that is very difficult to destroy and doesn't tear if it gets wet.

Also, the AP has nothing to do with Extra Magic Hours, except that it gets you into the park as your admission. You must show your room key (KTTK card) to show that you are eligible for the EMH, and CMs should ask you for your room key before every attraction during EMH.

It has been advised that you go to the concierge desk at your hotel and ask them to remove your 8 day hopper from your room key so that your dining credits don't get messed up when you upgrade your tickets. Please note that no matter how you upgrade your tickets, your room key will no longer work for admission.

what do they put your PH pass on to? so you ask them to remove the same before you use it the first time?

we will be doing the same...have 7 day with PH as part of FD and then will upgrade passes to AP's for visit next may. have read it is best to convert on first day to get AP discounts but then also read to make sure dining is not messed up.

They put the tickets on something that looks like a KTTK card, but doesn't have the resort name or dates on it. I don't think it has your name, either.

Yes, it's been recommended to do it before you use them the first time. (In the interest of full disclosure, understand that I've never used the dining plan, so I didn't have to worry about dining credits. But I wanted my tickets from the 4/3 package separated from my room key so that I didn't inadvertently use the ticket and then have to buy non-expiring!)

Okay, we added a dining plan to our reservation, so now we have park hoppers and dining credits on our room card.....I want to make sure I have this right as to what to do when I upgrade to the AP.

1) Check in.

2) Go to concierge and ask them to put my ph tix for each of us onto a seperate card, leaving our room card with access to our room and our dining credits.

3) Go to the park, at the park go and upgrade to the AP, they will then take that new ph tix only card from us, and give us our AP, so in the end we are left with our AP tix and our room/dining card.

Yes, that's the way to do it. Some concierge desks have a problem with removing the tickets. I guess either they are not sure how to or don't feel like it sometimes. I don't know what the big deal is but we have had those that didn't. Make sure the dining credits are still on your key card. I have read that some guests have had problems with that.

Okay - I'm really confused now. Should I upgrade at the concierge before going to a theme park; or do I go to the theme park, using 1-day's pass, and then upgrade to the AP? Sorry, but I guess I must get confused easily. :confused3

OK, let's try it this way.

Resorts cannot upgrade your tickets to APs. That can be done only at a park or at Downtown Disney. You want to use your ticket at a park before you upgrade so that you get the highest credit for it.

You have free dining. Your tickets and dining credits are all on your KTTW cards. It has been reported by others on these boards that upgrading to an AP with a ticket that is also attached to dining credits can mess up the credits.

So, this is what you want to do, and in this order.

1) Check in to your resort and get your KTTW card with tickets and dining credits.
2) Go to the concierge desk at your resort and ask them to remove your tickets from your KTTW card and give you your tickets separately. You will get something that looks like a KTTW card, but without a resort name or dates on it.
3) Go to a park and enter with that separate ticket.
4) Go to Guest Services any time after that, either at a park or at DTD, and upgrade to the AP.

Does that make sense?
