park hopper ticket question

We have reservations for Early Morning Magic at MK and are now considering park hopping to HS in the afternoon. I have not bought my park tickets yet.
We decided park hopping will only be worth it for us if we can get fastpasses for Toy Story Mania between 1-4p (long story...we are going for 1 day, not staying on-site, kids want to see TSL, and will need to leave parks by 5-ish).
So, my question...
Will MDE allow me to buy a single park ticket, book fast passes at HS (IF the TSM afternoon FP's are available) and THEN upgrade to a park hopper?
Or, because we already have the EMM reservations will it not allow me to book fastpasses at HS without a park hopper?
Or, should I buy park hopper with the intention of booking HS FP's and then if they don't have the TSM FP's that we want, will they allow me to downgrade my ticket to a single park ticket and reimburse me?
Sorry for the weird and complicated question...I don't want to pay extra for park hopper if we can't get the TSM FP's we want...Thanks in advance!
