Park Hopper option question

Does anyone know if you buy a regular ticket, like a 10 day without a park hop option, if you decide to park hop, would it take another day off or would it just not allow you to enter the park? I was going over my park days and there are probably only 2 days I would park hop. So if I was planning on an 8 day ticket, if I switch to a 10 day ticket, can I hop on that? That would save me about $35/ticket ($38 for the hop option - $2 or $4 to add on 2 more days), so just over $100 for our 3 tickets.

(Search wasn't working for me or I would have tried searching in case this has been asked before)

No, once you use that ticket to enter a park you cannot use a second day on the same ticket. It's literally a one day one park ticket. The ticket would not work at the gate.

You could just buy an a regular one day admission ticket at the gate for which ever park you want to add on...if you don't want to upgrade to a hopper pass.

That would be the worst "ticket economy" I could imagine.

To add Hopper option to a ticket (any ticket, any number of days) is about $45.

So if you have a 1-day MYW ticket, it will cost $45 to make it a Hooper and "hop" to as many theme-parks in that one day as you like.

If you have a four-day MYW ticket, it will cost just $45 to make it a Hooper for ALL FOUR days (NOT $45 per day).

If you have a ten-day MYW ticket, it will cost just $45 to make it a Hooper for ALL TEN days (NOT $45 per day).

If you already have a non-hopper MYW ticket and you buy another single-day admission...
THAT would cost you $67
And you could only get into ONE additional theme park with that ticket.
Nuts to that!

I think that charging for the priviledge to park hop is the most greedy thing that Disney has ever done (other than Disney Dollars). Somehow, I guess they figure it will reduce the number of days that one will spend in total at all four parks. But to charge more than the equivalent of a days admission (on a multi day pass), to go to more than one pass in a day is in my opinion highway robbery. But I continue to pay it because I can see more in my 7 day vacation if I do it that way.

I look at in completely in reverse. I appreciate the fact that extra days only cost a few dollars more. Would you rather each day be priced that same as the single day ticket? Of course not. I don't try and compare it to the cost of park hopping as they aren't the same thing.

It certainly isn't highway robbery. It is an enhanced feature that you pay extra for.

You can look at it any way you want. Park hopping is a feature that used to be free with a multi day pass and now you pay extra for it.

They've done a lot of greedy things, but park hopper isn't one of them. Yes you could hop before without added expense (or at least I'll take your word for it), but I do remember that percentage wise, the multi-day passes weren't as much a value as they are now either.

They have every right to want to make money though, it's not greed, it's sound business sense.

Why do you think Disney Dollars are greedy? They are a dollar for dollar purchase and can be used anywhere in the park. What's greedy about that???

As a matter of fact...I completely agree with you also, but there seem to be so many non-hopper people out there for some strange reason...i figure this person must be one...so therefore I said to buy a reg. ticket(in the realm of if that floats their boat)!

Nope! When we went in 1996 and 1997 - WDW sold a 4-day value pass. It allowed you one day at each of the 3 parks (this was before Animal Kingdom opened), and then a 4th day to repeat any one park. They were less expensive than park hoppers. WDW stopped selling the value passes and made all multi-day tickets hoppers, until MYW tickets came out in 2005 - but you DID pay for the privilege of hopping.

Instead of looking at it as paying more to park hop - look at it as WDW offering you the option to pay LESS to NOT park hop!

Because 9 times out of ten, they are never spent. If each family gets just one Disney Dollar to take home as a souvenir, that's millions in Disney's pocket every year. Think about it, where else would you be happy about spending $1.00 for a ten of a cent worth of ink and paper?

Uh, yup. When we went for the first time on our honey moon in 1986, there was no such thing as that value pass and park hopping was included for free on multi day passes. Also, there was no extra charge for non-expiring passes.

Those "value tickets" were very short-lived. Glad that I was part of the feedback that told them they were garbage. Yes, parkhopping used to be free prior to those value tickets. I don't really understand the rationale for charging for this privilege, other than a money grab. But for theme-park-a-holics like us, we will pay for it. I've had AP's several times over the past 6 years so this year is my first time for MYW tickets. I couldn't NOT park hop, so I guess Disney is getting what they want out of me - $$$.

Back in '97, you could also park hop between the water parks. :thumbsup2
