Park Entry, Lightning Lane, Room Key... Oh my!

I apologize if this seems like a silly question, but we've been to WDW multiple times, always stay onsite, and always used magicbands for park entry, room entry, lightning lane/fast passes, etc. With 2 kids, this made it easy for all 4 of us to just be able to scan in separately and independently and move through lines efficiently.

So, could someone walk me through how it would work for each of these access points at DL: room entry, park entry, lightning lane access?

We are staying at Pixar Place, fwiw.
  • I've seen that there's the option for a digital room key on phone, or a physical key card, which we would need for early entry. Would we each need a card or just one card for the party if we went with physical keys?
  • Park tickets are linked in my app - would I then need to open/scan for each person in our party when we enter each park? Does DL do fingerprint/photo when entering a park like WDW does?
  • For lightning lane access, would that also be from my app?
  • I assume my husband could pull up his tickets/LL from the app on his phone, but what about our kids... should they download the app and set up an account too to get linked so we're all able to scan separately?
I've seen that magicband+ would take care of park entry and LL access if we got them for the kids... but I'm not sure yet if it's worth that extra $$.

No fingerprint at Disneyland, but they will take everyone’s photo when you scan in the first time.

You can scan into the parks from the app and also scan LL from the app.

I usually just have my family log into my account on the app to access everything. My kids are teens and before we had magicbands, I would scan in myself and one kid and my husband would scan in himself and one kid at entry. Same for LL.

I havent stayed on site in awhile but have heard other mention issues with the digital key. A lot of people like to still get a physical key.

Hope that helps!!

Thank you! I didn't think about having them just log into my app account on their phones.... that could potentially work. My kids are 12 and 14 now and have phones, but in the past, haven't always carried them into the parks.

Yes. My kids really don’t ever use the app unless they want to look at the wait times. Lol. I usually book all the LL and mobile orders and stuff.

Thanks for this. In a similar situation - WDW veterans and our first time visiting DLR is coming up next year and we have all of the questions.

We have our MBs and would prefer not to buy the MB+ just for one trip. I've used my MB about a dozen times so I've kind of grown fond of it, lol. I'd feel like I was cheating on it with a newer, younger fling if I used a MB+.

After your trip, please update us/me on what worked for you and what did not. I trust that DLR veterans know the right answers here, but I want to know what problems/confusion you ran into based on your past experiences at WDW. Sometimes it feels like I am gearing up to enter a different world!

Still focused on figuring out where you get on the Skyliner at DLR so you can fly over to the park with Tower of Terror...I don't see either of those on the map. Not sure what good these maps are if they don't show everything...

The regular MBs will not work at DLR at all, only the MB+. That said, they aren't really needed and fewer people use them. I think they make a nice shortcut for park entry, or ligtning lanes, expecially over uusing my phone.

There is no Skyliner nor Tower of Terror at DLR. The two parks are very close to each other and you can walk between them. The Tower of Terror was rethemed to the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.

Answering the questions here, as a DLR vet who also sometimes visits WDW.
  • You can use a digital key on your phone, but I would just get a plastic key at the front desk for each person who might enter the room. The phone key can be glitchy. This WILL NOT get you into the parks.
  • Yes, you can scan for everyone on your phone. Sometimes you can get paper tickets at the gates, but it's inconsistent. I highly recommend Magicband+ to make your lives easier. The good news is you can use these at WDW on future visits.
  • Yes, you can your ticket barcode on the app or your Magicband+. Again, another reason for Magicband+.
  • As others have noted, they can all log in as you. There aren't really "people" on the DL app like at WDW. People are connected to tickets. You can book LL for different people to do different things. Another reason Magicband+ is great. You can book for others and they can go off and do their own thing without even needing to log in to you on the app.
I want to highlight in the post I'm replying to that I am concerned about what info you are looking at if you are seeing something about a Skyliner at Disneyland. There is no Skyliner at Disneyland. There are only two parks and you simply walk to each one. Their entrances face each other just about half a football field apart. Once you are onsite, you never have to get in any transportation. You can ride the Monorail from Downtown Disney into Disneyland park, but that's it. It's also optional, you can just walk to Disneyland.

There is also no Tower of Terror at Disneyland and hasn't been for about 7 years. There is a similar, but totally different ride, called Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!

Good one! 😂😂

Good one! 😂😂

I think the sarcasm was lost on some. The risks of online communication...

In their defense, I have asked a lot of basic DLR questions lately. So, it's not completely unrealistic for someone to believe that I was actually looking for the Skyliner.

No Skyliner and No ToT? I just hope all of my kids are tall and brave enough to ride Velocicoaster or its really going to be a tough trip!

Thanks everyone! I was kind of leaning toward getting Magicbands+ for our kids (as my husband said, we're already in for a lot of $$, what's a little more at this point - and cheaper to buy magicbands than it is for them to take their phones into the parks and potentially lose or break them!)... so I guess I should get those ordered now.

I'm still thinking my husband and I will stick with our phones for tickets/lightning lane. I guess if we find after day one it's a pain, we can just pick up some magicbands for us in the park because as you said, we can use them on future trips at any of the parks. Sadly, we only have non plus magicbands from prior trips.

And we'll request physical key cards when we check in.

I appreciate all the feedback!

Thanks! Not sure if this helps OP, but I appreciate it!

I would not buy MB+ just to get in the parks. We MAY hop once a day, so like max we're talking about pulling my phone out twice to scan for entry. Not worth the cost of MB+.

BUT, it sounds like MB+ can be used to tap in for LLMP - correct (the same as WDW)? In that case, that makes having one far more useful.

With respect to MB+ at WDW vs. DLR - it sounds like everything is the same except for the room key situation - right?

Actually.... follow up question for anyone who may know - will the Magicband+ work for onsite guest early entry? Do they have the option to scan for that or would we still need to show room key?

Yes, you can use MB+ for LL entry.

As the person responsible for booking everything for everyone, I like not having to also take my phone out to scan everyone into the park and scan everyone into rides.

If portions of my group go off separately, I can book them LL and they're all good with just the MB+.

I am going to WDW next year. I am using my MB+, which I've already used at DLR 2 times and will use again.

It is expensive, but I believe the cost is worth it since they are reusable. If you ever go on a cruise, you can use them there too.
