Had the chance to dine in this new location tonight....I have mixed feelings.

We were greeted promptly and warmly at the door by a hostess, and taken immediately to a very nice table near the bar. Most of the staff are wearing khaki shorts and polo shirts, not sure if I like the shorts in this sort of restaurant, but hey, who cares about that! Our server immediately came to the table, and was very friendly. He gave us a quick lesson about the restaurant (37 types of tequila and food from North, Central, and South America) Next he asked what he could get us to drink. We had literally been at the table for under 2 minutes, so we told him we needed a little more time to look over the drink selections. Heck, with 37 types of tequila I'm gonna need a little time! Surprisingly there were very few specialty Margarita's on the menu. I opted for a Mojito type of drink made with Tequila, my buddy ordered a draught beer. They have a sort of gimmick on the wall, a digital thermometer telling you the current temperature of the draught beers, and it was reading 37 degrees. When the drinks came my fiend commented that beer out of his fridge at home was colder, and he does not keep his fridge at 37! My drink was a little too sweet for my taste, and for $10.00, I couldn't really taste the tequila. Chips and Salsa are not complimentary as one would expect, they are $3.99 for plain chips and salsa. They also have Chips and a trio of Salsa's for $7.99. While the salsa was good, and the chips were hot, I'm sorry, but I can get free chips and salsa at just about every other "Mexican" restaurant in town, and when I eat a lot of them I get thirsty, and order another drink! :thumbsup2

Funny thing about reading the menu. The lights in this restaurant turn different colors, red, green, blue...etc. When the lights are green and blue it's almost impossible to see the menu. So when the lights were the darker colors we chatted, the minute they turned yellow or red we would laugh and say "Hurry up and read!" :lmao: And we were there well before the sun went down! It was an odd experience!

We each ordered a "Central American" entree, I had the Enchiladas, my buddy had the Burrito. Both came with a very dry cilantro rice, and Black Beans with sour cream. The cilantro rice would have been great had I had a little more Salsa to put on top of it, but I wasn't going to shell out another $3.99 for an additional order of chips and salsa.

Overall the food was OK, nothing to write home about. The portion size was good. The "North American" selections include a burger, steak, BBQ Pork, and "Sliders"........does every restaurant have to have sliders now? Let White Castle do what they do, you do what you do! :confused3

The decor was very nice, large windows overlooking Pleasure Island on one side, Saratoga and Lake Buena Vista on the other. A decent size bar, with about 10 bar stools, and some high boy tables along one wall.

Overall I found the food to be just OK, the service was good, and the atmosphere was nice. I had a discount card, so after they took off 20% and added 18% gratuity the bill came to $55.00 Honestly, I could have had a lot more bang for my buck at Abuello's less than 5 miles down Osceola Parkway from Disney.

It's not a bad place per say, but just more of the same from Disney. An outsourced restaurant with a gimmick (37 types of tequila) smack dab in the middle of Disney property, taking advantage of tourists who are stuck at Disney with nowhere else to eat.

One more interesting thing I noticed, a husband, wife, and boy around 10 years old took a seat at the bar. They were asked to move to one of the high boy tables adjacent to the bar. I'm not sure if it was because they had a child with them, or they wanted to eat food. Either way, the family did not seem too happy about being asked to move...

If I were to go back, I think I would stick with appetizers and drinks, requesting a table on the back side of the restaurant overlooking Lake Buena Vista.

The menu can be found here....

Have you ever dined at Bongo's? If so, how did it compare?

Sounds like a place we won't be rushing to try. Good to know that it's open though.

Thanks for the review!

I would say both places are pretty much in the same boat. Get the money, give them a piece of meat, some beans and rice, and laugh all the way to the bank.

Sadly....

The couple with the child was probably asked to move because I believe after a certain time (may also be all the time) children are not permitted to sit at a bar.

If I remember right, children aren't allowed to sit at the bar in FL.

Glad to hear a review on this though! Thanks for sharing!

I ate there last Tuesday or Wednesday for lunch - can't remember right now.

We were also seated promptly and I also noted that the shorts and polo shirts seemed out of place for the servers here.

We were seated on the second level and there were two of us - it was not at all busy and we were put in a small two person booth - it was a little tight there once we got our food.

Neither of us are adventurous eaters but from looking at the menu out front I figured we could find something.

Our server also introduced the restaurant to us and took our drink orders. It was sooooo hot we decided on just soda as we were going to the Balloon ride afterwards.

We got the chips and salsa and although we did pay for the first basket we got more later in the meal and it was not on the bill so I am assuming its bottomless.

We both got the Tres Tacos. My daughter said she wanted the steak only, nothing else in the taco and the server said that was how they were served (we thought that odd at the time but she works there and we don't). I got a steak one, a pork one, and a mushroom taco. I also noted that the server took the order from memory and did not write anything down.

When the meal came she immediately placed the plate of steak tacos in front of my daughter and said they came with pico de gallo on them. Chloe didn't send them back but just scooped off the pico de gallo. My pork one had a pineapple topping (very good) and the mushroom one had roasted peppers and onions in it (very good as well). These were very small soft tacos (very small). The plate was large though and also included the cilantro rice (very dry and not so good), a green tomato relish (I think - it tasted ok), some type of slaw (ok not great) and the black beans (again ok).

We asked the server if they took the CM discount and she wasn't sure but went to check and they did but she had to have someone teach her how to apply it.

We decided that we would not return to eat but would return to have drinks with chips and salsa at the bar sometime.

We didn't notice the lights changing colors at all -- so not sure if we were seated in a spot where that was not noticeable or what.

Funny thing, we ended up at Abuello's at the Loop tonight (very short drive from Disney) and had just about the exact same meal...

$10 cheaper, and the chips and salsa were free, all you can eat! :thumbsup2
