Had the chance to dine in this new location tonight....I have mixed feelings.
We were greeted promptly and warmly at the door by a hostess, and taken immediately to a very nice table near the bar. Most of the staff are wearing khaki shorts and polo shirts, not sure if I like the shorts in this sort of restaurant, but hey, who cares about that! Our server immediately came to the table, and was very friendly. He gave us a quick lesson about the restaurant (37 types of tequila and food from North, Central, and South America) Next he asked what he could get us to drink. We had literally been at the table for under 2 minutes, so we told him we needed a little more time to look over the drink selections. Heck, with 37 types of tequila I'm gonna need a little time! Surprisingly there were very few specialty Margarita's on the menu. I opted for a Mojito type of drink made with Tequila, my buddy ordered a draught beer. They have a sort of gimmick on the wall, a digital thermometer telling you the current temperature of the draught beers, and it was reading 37 degrees. When the drinks came my fiend commented that beer out of his fridge at home was colder, and he does not keep his fridge at 37! My drink was a little too sweet for my taste, and for $10.00, I couldn't really taste the tequila. Chips and Salsa are not complimentary as one would expect, they are $3.99 for plain chips and salsa. They also have Chips and a trio of Salsa's for $7.99. While the salsa was good, and the chips were hot, I'm sorry, but I can get free chips and salsa at just about every other "Mexican" restaurant in town, and when I eat a lot of them I get thirsty, and order another drink!
Funny thing about reading the menu. The lights in this restaurant turn different colors, red, green, blue...etc. When the lights are green and blue it's almost impossible to see the menu. So when the lights were the darker colors we chatted, the minute they turned yellow or red we would laugh and say "Hurry up and read!"
And we were there well before the sun went down! It was an odd experience!
We each ordered a "Central American" entree, I had the Enchiladas, my buddy had the Burrito. Both came with a very dry cilantro rice, and Black Beans with sour cream. The cilantro rice would have been great had I had a little more Salsa to put on top of it, but I wasn't going to shell out another $3.99 for an additional order of chips and salsa.
Overall the food was OK, nothing to write home about. The portion size was good. The "North American" selections include a burger, steak, BBQ Pork, and "Sliders"........does every restaurant have to have sliders now? Let White Castle do what they do, you do what you do!
The decor was very nice, large windows overlooking Pleasure Island on one side, Saratoga and Lake Buena Vista on the other. A decent size bar, with about 10 bar stools, and some high boy tables along one wall.
Overall I found the food to be just OK, the service was good, and the atmosphere was nice. I had a discount card, so after they took off 20% and added 18% gratuity the bill came to $55.00 Honestly, I could have had a lot more bang for my buck at Abuello's less than 5 miles down Osceola Parkway from Disney.
It's not a bad place per say, but just more of the same from Disney. An outsourced restaurant with a gimmick (37 types of tequila) smack dab in the middle of Disney property, taking advantage of tourists who are stuck at Disney with nowhere else to eat.
One more interesting thing I noticed, a husband, wife, and boy around 10 years old took a seat at the bar. They were asked to move to one of the high boy tables adjacent to the bar. I'm not sure if it was because they had a child with them, or they wanted to eat food. Either way, the family did not seem too happy about being asked to move...
If I were to go back, I think I would stick with appetizers and drinks, requesting a table on the back side of the restaurant overlooking Lake Buena Vista.
