Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Gift - Most likely a laptop for college - that is what her brother received
Party - We moved 2000 miles a few years ago - Most of our friends and all our family if they attend, will have to travel. Graduation is on a Saturday evening - we are planning on hosting a casual dinner on the Friday evening, a lunch/brunch on Saturday for local and out of towner's as well as meals/snacks on Sunday as people come, go and depart.
Page - I did do a 1/2 page as I also did one for her brother. I'm waiting on the draft to approve, I submitted back in January with hours to spare of the drop dead, must have it turned in deadline.

Announcements and cap and gown ordered today!
Save the date email to all the out of town folks sent today.

My DS responded" "That's THIS year!?!" :)

I feel like a totally bad mom. Our Senior yearbook ad was due back in November and I missed the deadline.

I'm pretty sure I did, too. I think there is a form somewhere in this house, but it came so long ago, that I'm sure I missed the deadline.

Me too. Only I didn't just miss it I asked all 3 of the kids to weigh in on it. If I did or didn't do it for oldest I would do or not do for the younger 2. They all agreed they didn't care about it and would likely find it embarrassing or worry about who they were on a page with if we didn't do a full page. We all agreed not to do them. So I'm off the hook for the next 2 also.:D

Congrats and good luck to your DD!

My oldest didn't want anything. I'm sure he would have been mortified if I did put something in. My daughter wanted just a little surprise one. I think this one would have liked a little something, but I don't think he'll be too upset that I dropped the ball.

A short mom-brag.

My DD will be swimming in the Speedos Sectionals Championship Series next week. The meet brings the best swimmers together from 6 nearby states (IA, IL, MN, ND, SD, WI) and they have a certain time qualify for each event at the meet. My DD already had 2 qualification times and she tried to qualify for a bonus event in the 200 IM and 100 free two weeks ago. She dropped a boatload of time but missed both by less than .10 of a second :faint:.

So, she swam them both yesterday at the State Championship meet and she dropped enough time in both to qualify *and* she made finals in the 200 IM! She can only swim one bonus, but it's nice to have choices ;). She is being prepped for next week's meet so she is not "shaved and tapered" yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed that next week will be even better. On the college search side of things, the meet in at the University of Iowa and we'll be able to drive around and see the campus. Unfortunately, it is their spring break so the tour would be super lame (no dorm tours) so we won't be staying an extra day to take the tour.

Congratulations!!! That is fantastic. I have two swimmers, though neither are that good.

That's awesome!

I just finished mine yesterday. I have a full page (long story) so it has individual pictures of them in pre-school and the individual sports. Then 4 'together' pictures, 2 of middle school and 2 in high school. We just had the basic "so proud of you quotes." I think I am going to save the embarrassing pictures for the slide show, since there will be no permanent record of those. :D
I did a half page and ended up going a little mushy. Could not help myself. How many pics did you end up with? I put in far too many.

Oh my- I am SO glad that we do not have either of those things! Only for 5th grade graduation was there a slide show presentation of the kids throughout grade school years.

The only reason I did it is because our "family friend" is the yearbook editor. And by friend I mean a neighbor who would talk bad about me if I didn't. :sad2:

I put in 8 total, 2 pretty large and the rest smaller.

.

that stinks- my daughter is on the yearbook committee LOL- our yearbooks are done by the kids in yearbook club but I am glad they don't put that stuff in there- just seems like parents would be one upping each other in how mushy they could get about how great their kids did- in our drama club programs they do parent ads and they are ridiculous- this year one of them was going on about "you have SO many friends, I can't believe how many kids are at the house every day for you"- ok, so your kid is popular. Another mother was telling me "oh my daughter is in a big group in school, she hangs around with all the other beautiful people"---- gag LOL......that is the kind of thing they would put in yearbooks here LOL.

Ours was a bit mushy but also had a ongoing series of phrases that she will "get" because its a running thing between her and I but outsiders may not get it.

Awwww Bless their heart!
My half page was limited to 4 photos and 80 words - I hit 80 on the nose. When I did DS's 9 years ago, the layout was very different and the assortment of photos were all of similar size. DD's yearbook uses a main picture to take up most of the space and then takes the remaining and shrinks them down. The whole page is this huge picture of the kid with really small boxes of the other photos. The half page in DD's words is "not quite as obnoxious"

One of my coworkers was telling me the other day that the boosters decided to decorate the girls basketball players lockers. Several of the Mom's/Booster members showed up for the event. They had an assortment of rah-rah type things to put on the girls lockers, then several of the Mom's brought along "extra" things for their own DD's. My co-worker made everyone adhere to the all or none principal, she was a bit shocked by the Mom's behavior in no matter what having to single out their kid to stand out.

DD wanted her page to be a surprise but I did seek out a bit of guidance in regards to the photos because she is the kind of kid who cares about these things. (DS didn't care). I said things to her like "hippie costume or silly hat?" to help me narrow down my choices. I think she has an idea what a few of the photos are but we saved one from toddlerhood that we love. DD has this glare, she tweaks her eyebrow and glares. She has been doing it since she was a baby and its very hard to catch on camera. We have one photo from when she was about 3 that has the famous glare (her friends comment on this eyebrow tweak even now) that photo is one of the ones we submitted. Hehe

With DS, we refrained from using all the embarrassing photos we had been threatening him with for years LOL, his senior class put together a video that was played at graduation. Parents could submit one baby photo, all other slides were from their senior year activities, it was really fun.

Uh-oh. I gave the yearbook committee 8 photos for our half page ad. Lol. I asked them beforehand and they didn't tell me to limit the pics to 4 or 5. Oh well, I can have them change it when I get a proof, if necessary.

Your YB may be totally different - ours came with lots of rules and guidelines including the number of photos and words

Well, it was a disappointing day. Today was the day the greeting card scholarship contest put this month's top 100 entries on and DD's was not there. I guess we shouldn't have assumed she would make it, but given the quality of prior month's entries, I was just sure she would be among the 100 put up for voting. I will say that this month's are for the most part better art than other months, I guess everyone else waited for the last round too. But IMO hers was definitely better than some that did make it. She checked it late this morning and asked me if she could go home and cry :(. I reminded her she wouldn't want to miss track practice and she can enter again starting this summer, for the following year. It was probably a long shot to win it anyway but she was psyched up to try to get votes and just to see it be considered. Just a bummer when she worked so hard.

I wish we had a "dislike" button. What a bummer!

I'm sorry for your DD!:sad1: (My DD also recently had a scholarship disappointment...never easy.)

I'm late to the thread but I'm not on the community board often. I cannot believe we are at 2nd tri exams already. Only one tri left :teacher:. DD will get a new pandora charm & bracelet for a gift. She choose a disney cruise for a graduation celebration trip. I cannot believe how the time has sped by this year. Year book ad, cap and gown, venue for grad party all ready. She takes placement test for college this saturday. It's going by fast.

I'm so sorry. It is so disappointing, but I'm sure that she will move on quickly.

So sorry to hear that, I was all ready to get her votes!

I wish I had never heard about College Confidential. I'm maniacally following multiple threads right now searching for clues about upcoming admissions. It's stressing me out.

Tell me about it. I only follow the A&M page and I check it a few times a day. I not only look to see information that affects my kids, there are two people on there that are trying to get admitted and I am following their journeys.
