Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

... and my DD made her decision this afternoon. She's going to be a Badger!

That's wonderful news!!!!!!

My "baby" is 18 today. I can't believe that this is all beginning to come to an end...

September will mark the first time in 21 years that I won't have someone getting ready for the first day of school. But I'll be too busy enjoying Disney World with my daughter to notice. :) We've decided on our first mother-daughter trip for the week that public school starts here.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone!

I still think that ISU was a better fit for her. She'd be more "middle of the pack" at ISU than at the UW which is much more selective. The competition at the UW for the A's and AB's she needs to be admitted to a DPT program will be fierce ... which is both good and bad. I just hope that the "reputation" of the UW will work in her favor.

WooHoo! Decision made. I bet she will do great.

We are home from graduation. Officially done!!!!!

Congrats! Was it hard? I am not very emotional, all the 'last' really aren't that sad for me. Everyone thinks it will hit me at graduation. Just curious what everyones' experiences are.

DS was officially "done" with high school at 3:20 today when his last exam ended.
He said it felt weird but not really sad.

We don't get yearbooks until August.

August?? How in the world do the kids get teachers and other kids to sign them if its after school has ended????

Senior recognition night was last night. She got a medal to wear around her neck at graduation for 3.9+ GPA. She didn't get any of the scholarships that were to be a surprise last night, but that's okay, most of those were small amounts and the ones she did win are a little bigger ($1500, $750, and $500). She was kind of glad she didn't win the one in memory of their classmate that died- they drew out names right on stage for a girl and a boy going to community college, and the girl that won was friends with the classmate but DD was not. So that turned out as it should have. The slideshow was really cute, showing a baby picture, middle school picture, and senior picture for each one and then some candids.

I don't think I'm going to cry at graduation. I don't think it will be a problem until we actually leave her at school. Last night though she made me laugh when I was trying to take my fiber pills with a mouthful of water. When I had recovered, she said, "I'm going to miss you when I'm at college". I felt a little twinge but didn't cry

Our school doesn't get them until later either and signing yearbooks is just not a thing now because of that. When I was in this same school we got them in May and had everyone sign, then later we got an insert for the late spring stuff that wasn't ready at press time. Now they wait for all the year's events and print them later. Makes it less fun in my opinion. I like to look at all the notes people wrote in mine every once in a while.

Choral department banquet is tonight. I'm a little sad.

Another of my DD's weirdness - she won't let anyone sign her yearbook - she received it yesterday and promptly brought it home where it will stay. She has done this all 4 years, I do not understand why.
I too enjoy looking back at the notations in my yearbooks - sure, there are always the "have a great summer" comments but there are also some real gems over the years that never fail to bring a smile of memory.

Yearbooks will be distributed the final week of school here. Anything that didn't happen in time to make the publication deadline is included in a DVD supplement, but I'm guessing most kids never bother watching that, I know my DS never watched the one he got. DD is yearbook editor so she knows her yearbook inside and out and she'll see her DVD supplement... again, and again, and again. lol

It's interesting reading about different traditions in different areas. With approx 800 kids in the graduating class there's no way our school could do some of the things I'm seeing people from smaller schools post about.

I've had a few misty moments, and I know the track banquet will be tough for me. I think I'll just be glad the actual graduation ceremony is over though because that thing drags on forever. I'm guessing my toughest moments won't come until college drop off time.

Congrats to all the kids and parents who have made it through senior year!
