parents not suing

All it would have taken was for properly placed signs to prevent the loss of this sweet child's life. It's heartbreaking.

The problem is that even if you post signs, people don't take them seriously, especially when they are in "vacation mode" -

I could swear that I've seen "Please do not feed wildlife" signs around POR and in parks. Granted at the time I saw the sign was when people were feeding the ducks at the resort and feeding birds French fries at AK. I never dreamed people would be stupid enough to feed an alligator.

Many would just look around for alligators, say "Oh, I don't see any right now, so..." and do what they wanted anyway.

Not being sarcastic. But I've always been more pragmatic than most. Even when the topic is death.

So you think you're more sensible because all you would want is your current trip and another trip paid for if your child died at WDW to no fault of your own?

You have kids, correct?

No doubt, most people consider their child's life is worth more than a couple of free Disney vacations. I don't think that makes them impractical.

I don't think I made any statement about the monetary worth of a life. I'm sure the person suffering the loss can't put a price on it.

What I did make a statement about is what I think is reasonable compensation for this event to help the family get back into life which they have to do for the sake of their other child. I'd think Disney would do this "to be nice" not because hey had any obligation to do so.

If someone loses a child in a car accident, do they never get in a car again?

So if this had happened to you, and Disney approached you a month after the tragedy and said they felt it was in everyone's best interest to offer you a $2 million settlement and put that part of the incident behind behind both of you, you'd say, "No, just give me a couple free trips back to WDW and we're good" ??

Do you have a child/children?

You did put value on it because you asked for your vacations to be paid for.
Reasonable compensation.

And I don't understand the car analogy. I already said in a previous post that I personally wouldn't return, but that it could be healing to others.

Like I said, I'm pragmatic. I'd probably take the offer. But it isn't what I'd ask for absent an offer.

I put a value on a trip. Not on a life.

No, I don't have children. But I have plenty of people in my life I love dearly.

EDITED due to misunderstandings - what I'm saying here is that the previous post I made put a value on a trip. The previous post made no statements about the value of a life.

We are at a disconnect. I don't understand this thought process at all.

A life was lost. The value of the trip is inconsequential.

If my child died (or any person I loved) at WDW, my thoughts don't go to I lost money on this trip. I need a re-do.

And I think we disagree on another aspect. I think WDW bares some responsibility. Was it a freak accident? Probably. But I think if Disney had better signage this could've been avoided.

Um, I can be logical to a fault, often forgetting to factor in people's feelings when I give responses. I sometimes even joke that I'm a robot. I cannot fathom how free trips would ever be the answer. I would rather nothing, not even an apology, than free trips. I would not consider that sympathetic on Disney's part and would actually consider it quite cold.

If I were those parents, I would want to know what Disney was going to do to prevent this in the future. I don't think offering money is out of the question though because when something like this happens their will be financial fallout due to lost wages from taking time to grieve, funeral costs, etc. They also could use it for the foundation or donate it to a cause in hopes that something good could come from something so awful.
