Parents: how often do you kiss and hug your teens?

I tell my dds that I love them pretty much every time we talk (in person, on the phone, on FB) as well as hug and kiss them. DS says "I wub you Mama" or some silly pronunciation but I'm glad I get that from him....he doesn't hug much but does things that a pp had written (leans on me when I'm on the comp, etc) and I'll take that. I was raised in a house where no one said that, so I wanted my kids to know that I love them.

My son is 15 and dosen't like to be hugged and kissed:confused3I tell him I love him daily. My 11 and two 9 years still liked to be hugged and kissed but not in public anymore:lmao:

My DS15 is over 6 ft and weighs 180, sort of athletic build, solid but not too big. I am 5'4" and around 115. We hug everyday, and I usually kiss him on the cheek.

I subbed at his school last week and he came by my classroom at lunch. He was so sweet. He told me thought his friends thought I was amazing! And he gave me a hug!!!! :faint:

Then he said, "Can I have $2?"

:lmao:

Well, at least he complimented me BEFORE he asked for money!

:rotfl2:

After reading how so many people's teens still hug and kiss them I feel a bit bad. My DS15 only hugs me on special occasions or when I'm upset about something and I have no idea when the last time he let me kiss him was! He does tell me that he loves me whenever he goes out the door, at bedtime or when we are getting off of the phone with each other. He's now at that stage where one minute he doesn't even want to speak to me and the next minute I can't get him to stop talking.

I am in the "often" category.

In the morning, at night, and when home from school, at minimum. Usually more.

We are definitely huggers and I hope that never changes!

And FTR, I also hug my dog several times a day as well! :love2:

As much as I hug and kiss the family the dog gets more! :rotfl: She is a big mooch and comes looking for hugs.

My son is WAY more affectionate than I am, sometimes he drives me crazy!! It's sweet though, that at 18 he still thinks I'm the bomb! :thumbsup2

My older son is just turning 13, but both he and his brother DS7) are very affectionate. I would say we hug and say "I love you" several times a day.

Try not to feel bad. I have a feeling there are a lot of non-hug/kissers that aren't posting, because "IRL", most of the parents of teens that I know don't get hugs and kisses anymore, either. ;) If your son hugs you when you're upset, he obviously loves you.

My dd is at that stage you mention last, too. I have learned to ask questions and make suggestions when she's talkative. :rotfl2: If she's in a quiet mood, she'll take everything the wrong way. :rotfl:

You aren't alone. I know what you mean! It's pretty much like that here too!

My little guy(almost 10) hugs me every day and we have a secret code for 'I love you' which we say a couple of times a day. My middle dd(12) gets a kiss and an I love you every morning when she leaves for school and before bed. My oldest dd(16 next month) gives me the top of her head to kiss on her way out the door and i say 'I love you' She grunts at me:lmao:

Growing up, I had a very loving family but not really affectionate and we didn't say 'I Love you' very often. After my dad died suddenly at age 54, my mom and I started saying it every day. She has been very sick and was near death this past month and I had such peace knowing that the last thing we said to each other was "I love you." She is doing a bit better but I still say it every day when I get to the hospital and before I leave:lovestruc My brothers have even started ending our phonecalls with it since Mom has been sick. I am blessed:hug:
