Parent Thread

I'm a wife/mom/sp ed teacher currently spending her three day weekend with sixteen 14 year old boys at a hockey tournament in Sault Ste Marie. The snow drifts are taller than I am and stupid me wore clogs into the car when I left the house. I believe buying boots is in order tomorrow morning.

Between their games tomorrow I'll be doing grading and starting and hopefully finishing my report cards. The house I left with the 22 year old who has her own place now but is home watching the dog and since she is under the weather somehow I feel better with her at home (and so does she).

I can't do it all, that's why my house is a mess. Please don't send OSHA to my house!

Clogs! BRRRR! Yeah, I would say you need some new boots too.

Thanks for being a sp ed teacher too. It takes a special kind of person to do that.

At least your Christmas tree is down, I'll bet!

TC, who is taking hers down tomorrow;)

I had my Christmas cookie jar out for the whole year. I'm thinking of leaving it this year too.:rolleyes1

Good morning everyone

I forgot to introduce myself yesterday.

I'm a single mom who just turned 40 last Thursday:woohoo:
My son(an only child) is 16.

My biggest issue right now? Dealing with the fact that my baby will be heading off to college next year.:sad1:

I'm at the other end, DS3 just started preschool two weeks ago. I was sad. For me it just felt like it was sort of a closing of an era for me. He did beautifully, I had a harder time than he did. We watched a Winnie the Pooh movie together. It was called The Search for Christopher Robin. Oh man, it was worse than the Baby Mine part in Dumbo. I was just crying. Christopher Robin went to school and Pooh was looking for him.:sad1:

College. I can't even imagine. Have you started considering schools yet? Hopefully, he will be close by. You can also celebrate the fact that you have brought up such a fine young man. WTG!

I remember when I first took DS to daycare and it was only for two days a week. He was fine and I cried like a baby (in private). I felt so silly but I guess we all go through that.

Hi! SAHM of 2 boys but will be joining the work force soon I hope. I recently got my nursing degree and I'm ready to work!!! :scared:

My boys are 7 and 10 yrs old and they live for POKEMON!!! :lmao:

Would you believe it's 10:30 pm and they are in bed reading books. :faint:

My youngest hates school...hates homework...hates to read.

We went to Wal-Mart this afternoon and my 10yr old found a book he really wanted. He read a few pages to my 7 yr old and my 7 yr old loved it!!!! So now he's reading it!!! :faint:

Okay.. I'm going back to read everyone's post..

I see you said you got your nursing degree. Did you get your RN? My mom just graduated with her BSN. She works in telemetry (sp) I am sure that is not how you spell it. She really likes it. SHe has been a nurse for about 4 years now. She got her BSN so she could work a little more on the administrative end. She says she is too old to work the floor.:rotfl:

Are you going to be working nights? My mom works that and loves it. I would imagine with little ones though it would be tough. What made you decide on nursing? I think I couldn't do it. Too much bodily fluid for me.:scared:

Yep, it just means it's a passing of an era for me. I think that was the hardest part for me. Just coming to terms with the fact that the last one is growing up.

One good thing about Pokemon is that they seem to stay so busy when they're into it. DS was never all that enthused about it but I saw some of the other boys going to the events and things.

DS loves wrestling and is big time into the amateur end of it. I just hope that he doesn't turn into another Hulk Hogan. ;)

Hey Brother! What's wrong with Hulk???:rotfl:

I was watching Friday Night Smackdown last night. We don't have cable and it was the only thing on. Anyway, Rick Flair was on. It was too funny!

I'm Kim and I have 3 DDs - 15, 10, and 6 and 2 very spoiled kitties. I work full-time from home and have a very flexible schedule which works great for me. My oldest is involved in cross-country and track and my younger 2 are gymnasts. My life is very busy, non-stop activity but I absolutely LOVE it!

I, too, am dreading when DD goes off to college knowing that with the way time flies the other 2 will be gone before I know it. I am really enjoying this time in my life with my girls and am not in any way, shape or form looking forward to the empty nest years.

Right now it is SNOWING which is a rare occurance here in GA so the girls out of their minds with excitement. They are sitting here playing wii waiting for the snow to accumulate so they can go out and play. :) Not me - I hate the cold, so I'll just sit here with a nice cup of hot tea and work on planning our upcoming Disney trip in May. :thumbsup2

Wooooo!!!! :lmao:

I prefer the TNA shows personally but that's only on cable. The people seem to be younger and more athletic and act less like soap opera stars. There's a few that aren't bad looking either. :thumbsup2

College is another roller coaster. At one point he was all over the map as far as where to go. Right now, he's focusing on the east coast and Chicago(:confused3 ). Princeton, MIT, Howard and Morehouse are getting the most interest right now.

I'm hoping for Howard, Hampton, Lincoln or Cheyney.

Wow! Those are some big name schools. He must be very bright.

I love Chicago. It is a great city. I have never been east of Michigan so I don't know about where you live. But, I love Chicago.

I am a working mom with stay at home Dad. We have 5 children- Bryson and Holden 11 year old twins in 5th grade, Jackson 10 in 4th grade, Logan 7 in first grade and Hannah 5 in Pre K 3 days per week 1/2 days. Life gets crazy at our house especially with extra actvities for 5 kids! Lori

Yeah, it was too funny. I had to turn it off when Jim McMahon said his son was some guy named Hornswaggle. It was weird. Instead I turned on a movie and posted on The Dis.

Your husband should post too. He and Bob Slydell have something in common.

We live very clsoe to Cheyney:goodvibes GL with his search.

Hi folks,

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where ALL parents could:

vent
laugh
cry
share ideas/experiences

Hey, we can even brag (within reason:rotfl: ) about our kids.

I know we won't all agree on every issue. However, I believe we all have something to bring to the table.

Great idea!!:cheer2:

It's about time there was a thread for parents (moms AND dads) to share their thoughts and experiences.

We just called home between hockey games up here to see how our DD was doing. The first thing out of her mouth was, "Why is the tree still up?" LOLOL Christmas was barely put up, and it hasn't been taken down. I was thinking maybe Monday evening?

Maybe OSHA will be dazzled by our tree and never notice the dirt and dust everywhere?:scared1:
