Parasailing on Castaway Cay

I did and I loved it! It was so nice to float up there.... I can't answer any questions about taking kids up - but I went tandem with another adult and it was nice to have someone up there to talk to. :) I didn't wear shorts - just my swimsuit. The operator "dipped" us - brought us down low so our feet skimmed the water. (If you don't want that done, just ask.)

As for the cord breaking - relax, you have a chute on! DH did military parasailing, which requires a release. He siad the ride down was easy and to not panic. (He's done it both on land and water, and the water landing was MUCH easier than land!)

Katerkat...Thanks I needed that, after reading about what your DH said, I am sitting here shaking my head saying "Yep, I'm going to do it.

Then I'll read something and say why am I going to put myself in that situation with my child attached.

Also, On CC when you go tandem is it side by side or front and back?

TIA

:) I understand the debate - I'm not a fan of heights! But I figure if DH can do it, I can. ;)

At CC, doing tandem, we were front to back. Well, we both faced forward - my back was against Cathy's front.

We are a family of 4, will they let my DH and DD12 on the boat IF DD8 and I parasail?

First - my info is second-hand, so take it as such.

I have read here that they only allow those who are actually parasailing on the boat. It makes sense as I understand time slots go quickly and they would not want to take up spots for those not going up.

I was reading after I clicked on the link provided above and then searched further, that you should never parasail at 600 feet or more as you can't tell the danger of the winds when you go 600 feet or higher.

I don't think you'll have any problem at CC......the rope is only 400 feet long, so you aren't getting "that" high.....they just let the rope out, then pull it back in, very smooth.

In our first 2 trips, the only people on the boat were people who were parasailing. The boats aren't that big, so I'd say there isn't room for observers. Unless they stay on the ship and go to the very front, with binoculars, I don't think there is anyway you'd be able to identify one person from another. That ocean is pretty darn big, and they go a ways out. The Magic looks pretty far away in our photos.

I'm replying to my own post, sorry! The quote looks like there should be a "however" at the end.....

Guess it was a Freudian slip, coz there WILL be a next time!! ;-) We've only parasailed twice and both times only parasailers were allowed on the ship. Sorry if I got anyone excited for nothing!! ;-) Kelli

We were on the May 6th Wonder and my dd 8 and I went parasailing. It was so smooth and easy. Nothing to fret! And if this makes you feel any better...My 78 year young grandmother went parasailing too!! She was soooo scared but she did it and absolutely loved it! Way to go grandma! Anyway, I think if you don't do it and you really wanted to, you'll regret it.

So happy parasailing and let us know how it went!

When I read these threads I am so gung ho, I'm there. I can't think that I'm afraid of water, heights etc. LOL

How much does your DD weigh?

After reading this thread a few days ago my DD12 wants to do it. GO AMANDA

I'm taking this thread with me on the cruise. I'll have to bump it up weekly to get more "I just parasailed at CC and LOVED it stories.

My son (10 at the time) and I did it last year tandem and we both enjoyed the parasailing quite a bit. It reminded me of a ski lift - it was very smooth.

I will mention that our boat ride was very rough. That was the hardest part for my son. They have to go pretty fast to keep the parasail up at times and if there are waves, you can end up bouncing around the boat quite a bit while you are waiting for your turn to go or for everyone else to be done.

So, my son loved the parasailing and hated the boat ride.

Hey Jin, I don't think there is a weight rule (being too light) if you are going with her that won't be a problem. The only rule I believe is that you are 8 years old. Check the DCL site for the excursion section, I believe it tells you the age you need to be and the prices for all the excursions. If you can't find it, let me know and I will look through all my little pamphlets, I'm sure I have something that would say that.

OH NO something else to worry about. I HATE small boats!!!

How many "workers" are on the boat that takes you out?

My DW did this last year and loved it. She and DD are going to tandem this year, but she swears that the rope was 600 feet long and judging by the picture that she took of the boat while she was flying I believe it.

My DS, who turns 8 today, will be thrilled. He's wanted to do it ever since seeing a picture of it. He was disappointed when I read that you had to weigh 90 lbs. I didn't know tandem was an option. Wonderful! When you go tandem, does anyone know if the $70 charge is per person ($70x2) or per ride?

I can't open the pictures, anyone else having the same problem? I would love to see them all, but whe I try to open them, I get an error pop up and then it takes the whole page down.

Sorry I did those in a hurry this morning before leaving for work. They should work ok now. Try them again.

Thanks for the pics. The one of the water so close looks scary. Looks real deep.

Not sure about CC but when I went up tandam in NJ it was a per person charge.
