Paper Invitations vs. Evite

We are traditionalists and continue to use paper invitations for all of our functions. I cannot tell you the number of Evites we have missed because they go right into our spam folder.

Evites are good for casual things - birthday drinks, backyard BBQ, beach meet-up. Personally I am not a huge fan but I accept that other people like them.

I use paper for more-formal occasions - showers, major birthday parties (e.g., my dad's 70th), obviously weddings.

Evites only (not the official "Evite", but an electronic form of invitation yes). Usually Facebook or Email. I can't tell you the last time I mailed something that wasn't a bill. If it is someone who I know doesn't have internet access, I call them.

IMHO, if you (a general "you) are aware of the fact that you are constantly missing functions because your friends are going electronic, then you (a general "you) need to be more agressive about checking your SPAM folders/email/Facebook/whatever. The electronic age is here to stay and IMHO more and more people will be using it as the younger generation grows up.

What's the question? Which do we use? Which do we prefer getting? Which is better?

What about Facebook events? Google calendar appointments?

Personally, I don't know anyone who uses evite, but I don't really have a firm opinion one way or the other. I will invite Facebook friends to events, or I will send email.

We make invitations to birthday parties and I'm sure we'll use traditional invitations for any future weddings in the family. But it sure is a waste of paper just for the sake of "etiquette".

Exactly. Waste of my time too, when it is much quicker to type up something and do a mass emailing or Facebook posting.

I agree. I hear more people complain about misplacing paper invitations than not receiving evites because of spam filters.

I agree. I always look at my SPAM mailbox before I delete everything in there. I usually always find one or two things that aren't SPAM.

There are a few formal events that I think mailed invites are more appropriate for, but in general I don't see an issue with evites. It is not cheap to puchase invites and mail them out and it is a great way to save some money or use the money towards another part of the party.

I agree. Personally, I find electronic invites to be not-my-style, but I do understand why some choose to use them for casual things. I won't use them myself, but I understand that others do.

I cannot imagine using evites or Facebook for a more formal occasion though.

Paper!! I scrapbook, so like to use them with the pictures from the event

I find e-vites too impersonal...........I don't think I have ever received one anyway.

I think formal invitations are a complete waste of money. After I send the reply card back, it goes in the garbage!

If I were having a formal event, I would still buy formal invites because most people still expect them.

I hope that changes in the future!

I love evites, hate paper invitations. I always misplace the paper, then have to scramble around looking for the info. With evites, everything I need to know is right there. And it's super easy to RSVP.

I use electronic, but I monitor and if there is someone who does not open the invitation, I send them a personal email with the link to make sure it won't go into their spam folder. And I print and mail to certain people, like my Grandmother.

Now, if I was having a formal event (which almost never happens), I would send paper.

I haven't tried using evites yet, but I have received a couple.

What I like about evites - I don't have to telephone to relpy, and I can see ahead of time who else is going.

What I like about paper - It's fun to get "real mail", and I can clip the info right to the calendar.
