Do women typically wear pantyhose on formal night ___ (being a cruise & all....) ???

I just got back from the 7 day Eastern and DID NOT wear or even bring pany hose. I had 2 really nice summer dresses and sandals and that was perfect.

We cruise in the fall, I do wear them only because my formal wear looks better with them(long black skirt with a slit). You can get away with not wearing them in the warmer months, the clothes are normally brighter in color and lighter in weight.

If you are cruising during the summer months, leave them home! It is much too humid to wear them and you'll wind up peeling them off you in no time.

I agree! If I were cruising in cooler months where my shoes were closed toe, I'd wear hose. but in the warmer months where formal open toed sandals would be worn, never hose!

(Personally unless you get those toeless hose, I think hose with sandals is a great way to ruin the perfect outfit.)

I cruised in January and did not wear them. I was not the only one, I was the majority, not the minority. Do whatever is comfortable for you.

I wore stockings on formal/semi formal nights (stay ups) ~ I just don't feel "dressed up" with bare legs...

But with a longer dress I think bare legs are fine.. it also depends on if you have a suntan - nothing worse than stark white legs LOL

Cass- Gotta love "Tan in a Can" for just that reason :)

P.S--Happy belated Canada Day!

I think you are going to see it both way no matter what month it is. I thnk my dress fits better with them and when dinner is over and I can't take it anymore it back to shorts.

Hope everyone enjoys the 4th of July... Have a great holiday

I wore several dresses during the cruise, but only wore hose on formal night. Glad I brought them too. After all that food, I needed them to get into my dress.:( I think it depends on the dress.

Living in Florida I haven't put a pair of hose on in several years. Luckily I like this fashion trend. Even at church, formal events including the cruise I see young and old saying good bye to our roots to HAVE to wear hose to feel dressed up!! I know this is just my preference and opinion.... Not wanting to start a discussion on proper etiquitte.;)

I only wear hose on formal night, primarilly to hold in the gut and butt in a tight dress! Other than that, I bring dresses/skirts the don't require them. It's not necessary to wear them from a "etiquette" standpoint. I also don't like the way heels/dress shoes feel without stockings.

You should try Spanx. Great for holding it all in and nothing like pantyhose!! Here is the link to the website. They can be purchased from QVC as well.spanx.com

You can try Hanes Body Enhancers to smooth out the parts that need smoothing! You can buy them anywhere that sells Hanes hosiery.

Good advise!
Hey, whose looking at my legs when there is so much else to see that's interesting?!

I have your answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get a pair of SPANX! Like control top hose with no legs! The best invention EVER!!! And REALLY REALLY COMFY!!!

Anne

Ok, Spanx seem like a great idea, but $25 per pair!?! What's so darn special about them? They look like a light-weight girdle. Diana

Well, they work long those lines, but they are COMFORTABLE! The band doesn't roll, they do'nt leave lines, and did I mention they are comfy?!

They also last forever--I've had a few pair for going on a couple of years now--since they first hit the shelves at Bloomies or Saks (can't remember which).

When they first came out they were in such high demand that they couldn't make them fast enough.

Anne, I agree Spanx are the best thing going. Yes, at $25 a pop Spanx are a bit high but definitely worth it IMHO!! They are also available at Nordstrom for anyone who's interested and they are now making Mama Spanx for pregnant women.
