Pancreatitis?

Oh gosh i hope not.

I have a cruise to be on in less than 2 weeks :-))

When I was hospitalized, I was in for 11 days, but they didn't know for sure what it was at first, so that would account for a couple of days. They wouldn't even let me have a mint or chew gum. It was awful. Thank goodness the morphine took away hunger, pangs, but commercials were torture!

How did they diagnose this. I have been to my dr at least four times in the past two months complaining of upper abdominal pain mostly left sided pain in my left shoulder and back and rib pain. Ah sent me to gastro where they've been running tests. My blood work is normal but they weren't able to completely see my pancreas. It is a squeezing pain with bloating and gas and belching. Slowly a good deal o the pain is subsiding but I still have minor episodes of gas and rib and shoulder pain. Sometimes walking feels bad. Mostly I feel kind of bruised on the inside now. I had an episode similar to this six years ago. Blythe time I got in for serious gi tests it was gone. I've been worried that it was pancreatitis and afraid of pancreatic cancer which I lost an uncle to.
Can this heal up on its own. Would it be just getting better? Or do you just keep feeling really bad and then have a good day or two followed by another flare up? I still feel like my upper abdomen is bloated and swollen. My pants fit normal but when I sit down I feel uncomfortable. I feel like the tests the gastro is doing are a waste of time. Next week I have a colonoscopy.

I had pancreatitis once- and thank goodness it was just once, because the pain was terrible. It felt like gas at first, in the center of my abdomen, above my belly button. It kept getting worse. I was hospitalized five days, no food or drink, and I was afraid I was going to die.
When I was released from the hospital, my appetite was almost nothing for a few weeks.

Mine was determined to be caused by birth control pills, but I am sure poor diet contributed to it at the time. Dr put me on Metformin at the time, and I have taken it ever since- with, thankfully, no recurrences.

Thanks will look into that. Is it lowfat?
Im in the waiting room in the ER.

Weird that even on an empty stomach i have pain.

Yes, lower fat, as I believe it is a bit like Atkins?

I am now able to add Coffee to the list! I have noted a more comfortable stomach without Caffeine.

While I have never been on a diet, as I have never weighed more than 10-15 lbs over my ideal weight. I was looking for something for Cravings that I could stay with for that solution.

It looks like a good diet for people looking to lose and maintain.

Also, I did it by just reading their plan on line. I didn't have to buy the book!

Do you have an update?

For the poster who asked - they diagnosed mine with blood tests. Some sort of enzyme, I think.

They should be testing for amylase and lipase.

I have had severe GI problems for a couple of years. Last hospitalization in march was for 3 weeks. We still don't have a definitive answer but I get re tested for pancreatitis all the time it it's always inconclusive.

Unless you're absolutely sure and this particular flare up has been diagnosed as pancreatitis, I would still see a doctor. Those symptoms could be any number of things, most of which you couldn't tell apart without some lab work and possibly an EKG. It's always a good idea to be healthier, of course, but your best bet of making your cruise is to take care of yourself now by getting checked out.

Tigeroo: I was posting with you under Title:. Stomach Problems Was wondering how you made out with your colonoscopy? Here's my update

Last Friday. I had to go to ER. Symptoms similar to stroke. My blood pressure was also 163

They kept me in observation all day, did repeated blood work, EKG tests had a diagnosis of bladder infection. I was given a prescription. For a 3 day Sulfa antibiotic. Had a "sensitivity" reaction (pharmacist word) and told to stop the antibiotic. But, as my luck would have it I'd already finished it the night before the reaction started! I was to make an Appt. With my Dr.

Follow up appt. Same day, my Dr. On holidays so I'm seen by another in the office. He has me give a urine sample, blood in urine.

He told me that I'm going to have another ultrasound on Bladder. The first one was for Gallbladder which at the time ruled out Gallbladder. That we need to find the reason for blood in the urine.

So. . . Ultrasound Thurs. Next wk. Then, an Appt. With an Urologist.

Back in the beginning of this in March the symptoms mimicked Gallbladder. No
Symptoms familiar to me as Bladder/Kidney therefore a urine check was not done.

Still really uncomfortable; Using Gasx when really bad and/or Tylenol.

Hope they figure this out soon.

Good luck with yours

Hi all ...

Well i'm up and around --- went to the ER that afternoon - they ran blood tests - did a CT Scan with dye contrast. Bloods normal and no pancreatic issues to be seen. Nothing found on the left side that could be causing pain the doc said.
They did find a hernia near by belly button, she said pain shouldn't radiate to the side that I was complaining about - but who knows.

Also dx as epigastric pain and gastritis. Gave me some IV fluids, some Maalox and some numbing meds along with protonix.. sorta worked.

Had pain again today so unsure what it is - I can tell you, TMI, that I was a big gassy like the day after these test, so maybe, the dye or the contrast.. I'm unsure.

I'm glad it was NOT my pancreas, I was worried going in - but, who knows what this is ... She said gastric. Watch my diet, as I have NO gallbladder, and i have a hiatal hernia.

I have a hernia of the umbilical area.... have to get a second opinion and start dieting to lose a little and we will see where this goes.

Guess what - even with NO gallbladder you can still have a gallstone.

When the gallbladder is removed the common bile duct (where most stones get stuck causing horrible pain) is still there.

I had my gallbladder out 12 years ago. I had 3 hospital admissions last year for a stone in my common bile duct.

Also, When at worst gas (pain) I've been using GasX In reading ingredients of the one I'm using Peppermint oil is listed.

Now I buy Peppermint Lifesavers; Individually wrapped, I can cut the top of the bag to use one for a bit then, pop back in the bag for latter need. They travel easily over the tube style.

And so much more economical, Dollar Store 100 in a bag.

Buying GasX for greater pain only.

I get this pain ever month during my cycle, right under my left ribs, right along with my monthly cramps. I'm going in to talk about it with my obgyn.

Hmm. Interesting.

Weird pain again.... it's unreal, just comes on so fast.

Into shoulder big time today.

Gas maybe? Maybe I should take some GasX or something like mentioned above when I eat.

It's really becoming a bother.
I'm getting worried for no reason, they didn't find anything that time and I'm still mentally worried about it.. causing a PA most days.

Do you think your pain is panic attack related? MY DH had a panic attack once, and had someone rush him to the hospital, because he was certain he was having a heart attack.

He had a virus that ended up causing vertigo. He was working on a roof when he started feeling dizzy, nauseated, sweaty, and had chest pain and difficulty breathing. His physical symptoms were very real.

Update: Just finished 1ltr water consumption! Lots of fun.

Waiting to go down for my Bladder Ultrasound this afternoon. I'm thinking at this point multiple causes.

Still using Peppermint, and GasX if I have to.

Will be 7-10 days before results of test today.
