Palo Question

Good Afternoon Sea Friends!

I haven't been on Palo since the Wonder in 2019 I know they changed the format to a more regular type of restaurant where you order of the menu a la carte. If you pay the flat fee can you order just ONE entrée? They allowed us to try different ones on the Wonder and also what has been the impression of Palo since the change was made in how they operate it. I'm going on the Magic and I was wondering if I should hold my reservation for it!

Yes if you choose the $45 prefix menu it is only one entree.

Yes it definitely used to be a better deal. Brunch is probably the better option, you can order as much as you want.

With the $45 Pre Fixe menu you get an appetizer, entrée and dessert. All the items are also available as a la carte. Platinum cruisers get the $45 as a credit towards however they choose to order.

There are multiple entree options with the price fixed menu. We ate there on Magic a week ago. There was a steak, pasta dish, and a third option I can’t remember. Multiple options for the appetizer and dessert as well, but the soufflé is really the only option there

You can either order the prefix from which you could choose a few selections for appetizer, entree and dessert. We are platinum with the $45 credit to spend as we wish. Anything over $45 a person is charged extra. In may I had the charcuterie board (which was not one of the prefix options) and an entree (the pasta which is a prefix option) and dessert. It was all covered becsuse it was within the $45. Still way too much food. But excellent.

You can go with a la carte. It may cost you more, but there way more chooses.
DH and I may try to get reservation next weekend on the Wish, Palo Steakhouse. I was thinking one of us goes with the prix fix and the other goes a la carte. I saw some review videos that featured a la carte items and they look fantastic.

It’s a four-course meal, pick one item from each of the courses. I have not heard of anyone getting a deviation.

You can add items (at the a la carte price) to the Prix Fixe dinner.

I ordered completely a la carte, totaling $47. It really caused problems - they did not know how to subtract the Platinum credit of $45 against the bill. The night auditor corrected the bill, but it was not handled well in Palo.

It was still a good Palo meal. My standard is the filet and the soufflé. sure, I miss the charcuterie wagon, but I come out full.

The option for more items was a nice way to try new things, though. (Edit: talking about the old method of ordering as much as you like). I feel most sorry for those who are still on their way to Platinum and are now experiencing Palo through this new system (Especially if they had just bumped up). One more nice thing reduced to a lesser offering.

I miss it when you could order half portions at Palo.

That said, my meal always comes to exactly $45 a la carte and I always leave full.

I have done Palo dinner a couple times since reopening. I've never left hungry, but it does take away from the experience now in that your server is no longer empowered to bring out a bonus item for you to try that they think you might like. It's basically just like eating at a nice restaurant back home, vs the more generally indulgent cruise ship environment.

In spite of all the changes and cutbacks (yes the Disney way), I'm still looking forward to both Palo and Remy for my cruise in December on the Dream. Unfortunately, after saying that, I do feel that the cuts will get deeper and the prices will continue to go up in return. I know I'm sounding negative, but I see the park mentality changes and the bean counters of Disney doing the same to DCL. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm willing to bet time will prove me correct.
