Pal Mickey

You are supposed to carry Mickey facing forward as you enter the park. You'll know he got his update by him giggling as you enter. Mickey was informative in a tour guide sort of way but only once did he actually help me catch a show that was about to start. He is a little too location oriented in my book...and he never helped me catch quick ride times anywhere.

FWIW I'd get Pal Mickey 1.0 right now and buy Pal Mickey 3.0 whenever that comes out...maybe they'll fix his abilities to help you tour more efficiently.

One thing I thought was neat was that he recognized he was leaving EPCOT...that was the only park that he noticed it tho'.

I sometimes wonder about getting one, but because we usually stay at SSR, I'm afraid of what Pal Mickey might say:

In a room in the Paddocks area: "Boy, this place isn't close to ANYthing."

In a College Park room: "Boy, it sure is a long walk to the pool."

At the Carriage House: "This place really needs some more restaurants."

As we walk by the HRS: "Oh, boy, is this pool going to be packed when all the buildings are open".

No extra cost for the DVC shirt but you have to buy My Pal Mickey. You cannot just buy the shirt I think for the DVC ones you have to go to a DVC resort and show your card (that one may have ended though).

For those who think the only difference between old and new is that the new one has more memory and comes in a tux, here is the "official" description:

UPDATE from WDW: "The clothing/costumes for Pal Mickey are in the final stages of development. The Buyer is awaiting the final set of pre-production samples from the vendor. If the samples are acceptable, the product will be shipped in November. The shops then would have the product available for sale in time for the December holiday season."

I have the original and the HCOE edition and love both of them. The new version has 50% fewer jokes (but several new jokes) but gives more information and is the only one able to tell you about new attractions. The easiest way to tell if someone has the latest Pal is by the medallion on his right hand. Many of us took Pal Mickey out of that tux as soon as we got him (see PalMickey.net).

We were lucky to get two Pal Mickeys on sale for $13.99 each (old version). The first day, my DD9 didn't want to bring him, but my DS6 did. He was so much fun. We took a break that afternoon, and guess who came with us that night? You bet my DD's Pal Mickey. For 5 days the kids lugged them around everywhere and had a ball. I can't tell you how many times the kids would stop and have us listen. We learned so many fun interesting facts about the parks and it certainly made it more enjoyable.

The only bad thing is when both kids would hold him up to your ear and he would be a word off. It's enough to drive you crazy!!!!
