These are pictures from the first day of school that I had meant to post, but just never got around to.

Obviously Nicky got to go to school the first morning. I haven't uploaded any of Hunter yet (bad mommy).

It's time to share some of Andy's adventures,

After his morning of play Andy wanted to get out and see some of the after effects of Katrina, even though it had been over a year since the storm, her effects are still quite visible.

One of the first places Andy went was the Episcapal Church Bell Tower, when Camille hit Biloxi in 1969, the church was completely destroyed with the exception of the Bell tower, since the tower fearlessly withstood the storm it was kept, and a Memorial to the people who died in the storm was built behind it. The first picture in the collage was taken just two days before Katrina struck, the last two pictures are of Andy sitting on the steps, which are all that's left of the tower. The bricks have been gathered and stacked, so I'm sure they are planning some kind of restoration.

Andy visited the Hurricane Camille Memorial, the names of the people who died in the storm are engraved on the black granite of the memorial, with those names are three women who were never identified, they were named Faith, Hope and Charity. On the anniversary of Katrina a funeral was held for two men who had not been identified, they were buried next to Faith, Hope and Charity and were given the names Will and Strength. Restoration has been started on the Memorial in these pictures, the top granite that has Hurricane Camille Memorial has been replaced and some of the granite panels have been put back into place.

Andy really liked this picture, he asked me if I could put it on one of his blank shirts, I told him I would try.

The Lighthouse was one of the few structures on the beach that held up.

Wow Debbie. Thanks for taking Andy and the rest of us on a tour of your area. It amazes me how much devastation is all around you after a year has passed. The people there are true survivors for hanging in there and picking up what's let to rebuild for a new tomorrow. Thank you for reminding us to keep the devasted areas in our prayers.

Debbie -- these pictures are a wonderful and horrible reminder of what you all are still having to go through. How sad that in this great country this has not all been fixed yet. My sister and her DH lived in Ocean Springs for a few years quite a while ago. So those pictures really brought back memories of our trips there to visit. How devastating the force of Katrina was.

Unfortunately these pictures are just the tip of the iceberg, there is so much more than these pictures show. The good news is we continue to move forward everyday, what we need more than anything now is affordable housing, that would bring more people back into the area, and get others out of their FEMA trailers. We still have a tent village not far from me, it was built by the Army soon after the storm. Another thing I am grateful for is God has taken it easy on us this year, so far, knock on wood, we haven't even had to pack up the yard.
