1. I see several people say that packing air freshener is a good idea. Agree or disagree? If you agree, are you talking about a car tree hanger type thing?

2. Should I pack bug spray? It hadn't even occurred to me. We are going on a 4 night Dream.

We've never packed either before but on out last cruise someone gifted us an air freshener in our fish extender exchange and we really liked having it. It was one of those come shaped cylinders with gel inside. It was a 15 day cruise so it was nice that it lasted so long. For a shorter cruise you might just want to take one of those little Yankee candle car fresheners.

I packed a lysol spray deodorizer disinfectant, and I was glad I did. Sometimes the toilet got a little sewage smelling. The room host was always able to fix it...but we did not want to call her at 3am.

I always bring a cheap gel air freshner for the bathroom just to make it smell nice but its not a nessecity.

I never bring bug spray

We actually use Poo Pourri. You spray it on the water before you go and it works shockingly well. My sister gave me a bottle last year for a joke. Now we have it in the main bathrooms in the house and at work, where it is requested by my staff. Dh and ds can make some pretty big stinkies. I'm glad we had it in those small cabins!

We brought some febreeze (non aerosol) and used it each night before bed and no, we did not bring nor need bug spray on any cruise we went on. Should you take an excursion where it might be recommended, there will be an opportunity for you to get it there.

bug spray: no
only you, your cabin mates, and your digestive tract can answer about the need for what we now call "air freshener" and what us old-timers call "bathroom spray"
:crazy2::rolleyes1:blush::eek::faint:

I wouldn't bring anything overpowering as the space is so small, hence the need for an air freshener. I have used Poo Pourri and Febreze.
You won't need bug spray.

We always bring a small spray canister, the small type from Bath & Body Works. I keep it with our luggage, take it on every trip.

I agree! Buying it right now would also mean you could pick out a summery type scent to go along with the cruise. :D

We've never packed air freshener and never really needed it. We had a bathroom drain that sometimes emitted an odor, but our steward just poured water down it and the smell went away. It happened again about mid-cruise and we just poured the water ourselves.

We've never needed bug juice on the ship, but the wife is very sensitive to bug bites so often wears it ashore.

We have never needed either! But a cool air freshener probably couldn't hurt. I might just pack it and see how it goes! But our rooms have always smelled nice! And since the trip always been in and around the sea I don't have any bad experiences with bugs!

ok i had to google poo-pourri! I want some!!
best commercials EVER!

we use 'just a drop' which is the same thing but half the price. you can get it from Walmart, target, lots of places and the container is small as well.
I always feel like i'm eating air fresheners. I seem to be very sensitive to them.

eta--I didn't realize the whole commercial would pop up, just thought the link would so I am taking them down. go to youtube and key in poo pourri commercial if you havn't already. there so funny.

1. We have never had air freshener on our three previous cruises, although on the first one we started getting "sewer smells" in our toilet (unrelated to stinkies!), but that never repeated on the subsequent two (always on Deck 2 on the Magic). However, this time I am investing in some poo-pourri, I heard good things, they have it at BB&B, and I have my trusty 20% off coupon.

2. Don't want to be Debbie Downer, and again never bothered on our previous 3 cruises, but this time around CDC has a warning posted about mosquitos carrying Chikungunya in Mexico and the Caribbean (including the Bahamas). I agree that when you are on the ship you will likely not need it, but if you are planning on shore excursions, you may want to consider packing some bug spray. I, personally, am a mosquito magnet, if they are around, they find me. We are planning on going to Dunn Falls in Jamaica, so I plan to have some deep woods off with me.

And, if it is suitcase space you are concerned with, seriously take half the clothes you intend to take out, you will not need them. Now, if I only would listen to my own advice!

Have a wonderful time!

There are organic bug spray options too. We have used the Badger brand in the past and it worked well. I often got comments on it's pleasant smell.

Some type of air freshener is a good idea. The cabins are small and you never know when you might need it. And most likely you and the rest of your family will be eating more food than usual and possibly foods that you are unfamiliar with eating so...

You may need bug spray depending on your excursions. You should not need it on the ship or Castaway Cay.

If it is your clothes that you are worrying about, a trick my mom taught me on my first overseas trip was...... lightly (and I do mean lightly) scented dryer sheets. You pack a small stack in a baggie and place a few throughout your suitcase. When you open it up, smells like clothes just from the dryer, and they stay fresh for the trip. PLUS, they work to tame the static not only for your clothes, but also your hair. And in a pinch, you can rub them on your arms for a quick refresher. This is what I learned while traveling and not always having access to a shower a day.
