I was wondering what I should pack for a train ride in July? What should I wear or bring to do? We will be leaving from Erie going to NYC and down to Orlando? Can u also do ur nails? We have a sleeper.

Just wondering

Check as much of your luggage as possible, and pack what you'll need for the trip in a smaller suitcase or duffel bag. Bedding is provided, though you will probably want toiletries and other personal items, along with the obvious change of clothes and whatever else you will need overnight. If you have children along, bring a few diversions, such as a Gameboy or CD player with headphones, or some reading material for everyone. The best pastime, by far, is the view out your window (bring a camera), but there's not so much to see after dark.

Your dining car meals are included, and snacks are available in the lounge. The selection is obviously limited, of course, so you might want a few items brought from home.

Enjoy your trip.

Even though bedding is provided, I would bring a pillow as the ones that are supplied are rather poor quality as I recall.

I've only traveled in the winter but you might want to bring a light jacket in case any of the cars are kept cooler, I'll be going in June so I will be doing the same.

The cars are usually a bit bumpy but not too bad so you can pretty much do anything .

Regarding doing your nails, the scent of the nail polish may be offensive to some, even though you'll be in a sleeper. Also, since the trains are moving and at times, the ride is jerky, your polish may end up where you don't want it. Just a thought. :)

I usually pack snacks, soda, etc. (Soda was at one time complimentary in the sleepers, but this seems to be no more.)

Have a good trip!

Just back this morning from a trip to/from New Orleans and we had complimentary bottled water in the sleeper car.

we usually go also by train. the last 3 summers ( 1 in June and 2 in August) we made sure we had long like jersey/sweat type pants, and my dd and friend would bring sweat shirt, jacket type because with the AC it was really CHILLY. we would wear like short sleeve shirt, then have the other clothes in a small carry on bag with like books, magazine, cds, some snacks, tylenol, misc stuff. i also bought a blanket on board one summer for like $10.00 cause my other daughter was cold. i brought a travel pillow to which worked great for my neck.
