Packing for Scotland.

Ok I'm going to Scotland at the end of March.

Anybody got any ideas??

Light jacket heavy sweaters? or Lighter clothes and a heavier jacket?

I know it will have to be rain proof.

I was Ireland about that same time last year. I took a suede jacket and lots of long sleeved tees and sweaters for layering under it - worked out fine.

Sitting here in Scotland I would second the layering! Also rainwear. The weather changes so much and so quickly.
What parts of Scotland are you visiting?

Thanks for the info. I'm going to Glasgow, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, Inverness, Isle of Skye, Pitlochry, Edradour Distillery, St Andrews and Edinburgh. I have the rain coat/winter coat already with gloves. I want be doing any hiking, but I have been told I need to take some water proof hiking boats. Are those needed for general use? Or can I get away with my tennis shoes?

You are going to have a fantastic time. Even though you aren't going hiking I would recommend a stouter pair of walking shoes/boots especially for Skye.

It rains a lot. When I was there that time of year it was rainy most days. I would get one of those LL bean lightweight rainjackets that packs up into a small pack. Then plan for layers underneath so you dont need a heavy coat. It was beautiful and I didn't mind the rain, it didnt rain all day but the wether is very changeable. Nancy

I have family in Glasgow and all they keep saying is to bring lots of money as eating out etc is very very expensive!

I went many years ago around the end of May, toured England, Scotland, and Wales......looking now at the pictures we took, it looks like we did the trip in one day---because my parents, brother, and I each have the same sweatshirt and jeans on in every picture!!
The moral of my story: pack more warm clothes than you think you'll need!!
