Packing Cube Questions

I have the ebags toiletry kit (and the packing cubes, shoe sleeves, packing folder, . . .:goodvibes ). When the toiletry kit arrived I thought, no way is all my stuff going to fit in there, but I was wrong! There are a couple of places where you can unzip the bag to expand it a bit. It's nice to have a toiletry kit that isn't bulky. DH has one in a different color, and DS has the junior toiletry kit.

Oh, and I ordered the garment sleeve from ebags this morning!

I LOVE IT!!!:lmao: more bag crazy people LOL

Glad you like the toiletry bag. I've read the same thing from a few people that when they open the box, they are like OH NO!!!!! But then everything seems to fit and then some.
Mine will be here next week :goodvibes

OK What does everyone use for their toiletries? I usually take a carry-on with full size products in Hefty zip lock bags and check the bag.

I just bought the pack it flat toiletry kit from e bags.com, does anyone have that?

I use it!! It stays packed all the time. I use the sample size toiletries, and find they last for a week with no problem. Depending on how many different products you use, you could use full sized bottles with no problem. I previously used a slightly larger American Tourister bag, but it took up too much room in my luggage. This bag is perfect!

I am the QUEEN of overpacking, I have been working on NOT OVERPACKING. The cubes and this flat pack toiletry bag have been very helpful, and I have not gone into major packing withdrawal yet. I still overpack a bit, but these products help me take fewer suitcase :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I just ordered my first set of packing cubes but after reading this thread I am convinced I "NEED" more sets. (I am a bag person also).

BTW, if it is helpful, there is a code CATASUMM11 that will give you 20% off and free shipping with NO MINIMUM on ebags.

Wow, I'll have to try these cubes. Does the spry wrinkle release stain any material??

I don't have any of the sleeves (yet)!:rotfl: ...So the sleeves will hold an entire suit? If you put a suit in one can you fit anything else?

What I call a "sleeve" is also known as a folder; basically a semi-hardback with flaps that fold over the clothing.

I packed my suit (or tux) jacket, pants, dress shirt, and tie in one but I think two suits would be a bit too much.

A quick tip: Wrap the clothing in a plastic cleaners bag (no hanger of course). The plastic keeps the fabric from rubbing against itself, or anything else, which is what causes the wrinkling. I hung my tux up and by the formal night the few wrinkles in it (mostly in the sleeves) was gone.

I've used the large packing bag for a suit on occasion, but I think the sleeve works better.

I like the tubes for small items - I use them for everything: underwear and socks, alarm clock, small flashlight, spare batteries, clothespins, various rechargers, sewing kit, etc.

Anything liquid (to include insect repellents, sunscreen, etc) goes into a clear plastic sealable bag. I used to use a baggie but now use a heavy-duty bag I picked up somewhere.

I was searching online for these packing cubes and have found a bunch of differant brands. Does anyone out there have a favorite brand they like or a brand they think I should stay away from?

Right now Magellen has cubes and other packing accessories on sale (until 3 July). http://www.magellans.com

We use various brands - generally when we find them on sale: LL Bean, Magellens, Eagle Creek, etc.

OMG- something else to buy for the cruise! Thanks for the pictures. Now I definitely need them!

What is a packing tube? I searched it on ebags and Magellan and nothing came up. Can you post the link for them. Thanks

I've been using these ebag packing cubes for years. The large is almost the same capacity as a carryon suitcase (12.75" x 17.5" x 3.25" ). The medium is usually big enough for me to place a weeks worth underwear in including socks and a swim suit when I'm using it in the drawer of a hotel or cruise cabin. The small is like a small toiletry bag size. The nice thing is that they have handles on the side and they weigh next to nothing. They are like my drawers away from home. I use different colors for each family member and it is easier to keep stuff organized in the suitcases.
The best thing is that they have a lifetime warrantee, but after 9 years mine are all in excellent condition.

OK This is getting bad because mine are due to arrive on Wednesday and I am so excited to get them Nuts right? :confused3 LOL

I just test-drove the eagle creek folder and cubes for my week long trip to California and Houston, and give them a huge thumbs UP! :thumbsup2

I was able to get 8 days worth of clothes and toiletries into my carryon. That's all I took for the trip.

One folder for my linen pants and shirts, a skirt and other tops.
One medium cube for my running stuff (2 each of shorts, tees and sports bras), and my bathing suit.
One sleeve for underwear and bras.
One toiletry kit.
One pair running shoes.

I should have taken a photo ala Annie!

I don't know how the cubes save space, but they do, and it kept me organized. I'm going to go get a few more for our Med cruise which is now only three weeks away.

I might need to try these since you are all giving them such great reviews. I usually use the air out bags, that really helps keep things sorted by person. But I like the idea of being able to just put these right into the drawers. Especially when we are traveling to relatives houses, and might not even have drawers there. Something to think about.... and to spend more money on! lol

I find that the medium and small cubes will fit right into the drawers on ship. If you have more than one you can stack them, which helps keep the drawer contents organized. The large cube, which may be too big for the drawers, can be easily unpacked and the cube kept in the suitcases until its time to repack.

Here's the situation:

9 nts (2nts Cocoa Beach, 4nt/3nt cruise)
2 adults 1 9yr old
1 29" checked bag
1 22" carry-on
We will do laundry onboard

You guys have gotten me excited about these packing cubes. I want to buy some but not sure how many we will need. Will 1 set of 1lg, 1med, 1sm be enough? We do not pack any really dressy clothes. Dinner clothes consist of capris/tops for myself and dd, khakis/polo shirts for dh which we wear multiple times. Do I need tubes, folders, etc?

Thanks!

Another believer in packing cubes here!! We have them in four colors... one color, multiple cubes for each member of the family. :thumbsup2

Personally, I would use at least 1 entire set of 3 cubes for each family member. Probably more, really for 9 days. I strongly recommend being able to pack tops in one & bottoms in another for each person + a small for undies & socks etc. SO as a start I'd recommend 1 entire set per family member. I would use the folders for my cruise dinner attire. You could probably get by with one folder if you tend not to dress up TOO much. Since we DO dress up for a cruise I will use 1 folder per person for whatever dressy clothes don't fit in our garment bag (for capris, blouses, slacks & button down shirts).

We just went away over this past weekend (casual trip for a family reunion) and I packed 1 medium cube for DH and 1 medium & 1 small for myself (bcuz the weather forecast was iffy I had to have a couple of choices in what I had with me for myself doncha know.:rolleyes1). I was trying to get everything into one of the new itty bitty 17" carry-ons I bought for our trip to Europe this summer just to try it out but I didn't spend a lot of time rolling the clothes. If I had put more time into the packing I could've gotten more in. Anyway, in 1 med. cube I packed 1 spare pair of shorts plus 3 shirts, 2 pr. boxers & a pair of ankle socks for DH (he was primarily wearing sandals but going golfing on Sunday so needed socks & golf clothes). For myself I packed my PJ's & undies in the small cube and I packed 1 pr. of capris, 2 shorts & 4 shirts in the medium cube. By the time I put in my toiletry bag & DH's shaving kit the suitcase was full. If I was using a standard 21" or 22" carry-on it would've been a piece of cake. This took a little shoving to get it zipped up.:rotfl:

I've have several old style (mesh) Eagle Creek folders. I'm guessing 15" as I can put about 7 or 8 shirts in them. Are you folks saying that I could pack a BLAZER in one? I've always taken a garment bag because I figured that folding a blazer (or a suit) into something that small would just wrinkle it to no end.

Am I wrong? Could I even pack a 2 pc suit in a folder?
