Packing Cube Questions

Annie, Thanks for the visual!!!!
I'm glad I saw this thread by my cruisemate!! We've been talikng about them over on the thread and now I was thinking that I might need some too!!!! I too tend to overpack and like bags!!!!:rotfl2: There are 3 of us, so maybe I will order the set of three for each of us. What are the packing sleeves/ folders? I've just started looking on ebags.......

The packing sleeve is like a garment bag that can be folding and put in a suitcase, it is for dressy clothes. Put it in the search on ebags. I think it is $26.

BTW, my order was SUBMITTED!!!

These intrigue me, as I've never heard of them before! I am wondering though, do they not add extra "weight" to your bag?

Also, by the pictures, this is how I pack my bags already, how do these cubes make it any differant? When I first read the post, I thought it was the type of back where the air is extracted, but this doesn't look like it is.

The ebags packing cubes are very light and thin. They really don't add any weight.

For my family, it provides separation for different types of clothes (dress vs casual vs pjs) and separation of different family members. It was also great when I had started packing 2 weeks prior and wanted to double check an item for DD, I didn't have to dig through the entire bag, I just pulled out her packing cube and opened it without disturbing anything else. Plus, you don't really have to unpack when you get on the ship. You just leave everything in the cubes (except maybe dress clothes) and put them in drawers, under the bed, on the shelves of the closet...wherever!

:goodvibes

Ok What do you all think, let me know before I press submit order.

There are 4 of us, me, 2-dd's 19 and 15 and dh.

I have in my shopping cart...
1- 3 piece packing cube set for each of us
1- 3 piece medium packing cube, guess DH is out of luck LOL
1- packing sleeve
1- pack it flat toiletry kit, which I've had my eye on for a while

BTW, like most of you, I can't resist a bag LOL

Good choices! You'll find a mix of each to work best.

We have a variety of cubes and sleeves that we use for all our trips, regardless of length. They keep everything neat, make it easy to find what we want, and they can be easily taken from the suitcase and placed in the room drawers.

For week long trips (like a cruise) I tend to use a large, medium, small, and a couple of long "tubes" (half a medium). I like the large one for my pants/shorts, and the medium for my shirts. I use a sleeve for suits (if I don't take a garment bag). This mix pretty much fills up a large suitcase, but when I include shoes it works easier if I spread them between a large and medium suitcase.

DW likes the medium sized and uses several of those.

Usually, I will fill a medium cube with a change of clothes, which then goes into my carry-on, just in case my suitcase(s) is delayed.

I love my packing cubes but need to invest in a folder and a garment sleeve (esp. before our next cruise).

For those of you that have the folders--which size would be best? 18" or 15"?

I like 18" best all around. The 15" works well for holding a change of clothes for my DH and I when we have a quick overnight enroute. -- Suzanne

We all have the 15" folders because I wanted to be sure they could fit inside of our carry-ons & smaller duffles and our smaller 17" international carry-ons...the 18" ones would be too big for those. We also have a 30" duffle that is 15" wide so this way they will fit sideways in the larger duffle too. I can get between 12-15 items in each one so I think they're a fine size. You can measure the inside dimensions of your luggage to get an idea what size might fit best.

OK What does everyone use for their toiletries? I usually take a carry-on with full size products in Hefty zip lock bags and check the bag.

I just bought the pack it flat toiletry kit from e bags.com, does anyone have that?

I don't have any of the sleeves (yet)!:rotfl: For our MED cruise we have a rolling garment bag that holds 8 hangers & has several large pockets that I was going to bring. There are a couple of little plastic pockets in the corners that are probably for toiletries but I was going to use them to hold DH and DS's dress belts & socks & stuff. So the sleeves will hold an entire suit? If you put a suit in one can you fit anything else? I thought it would be better to put it in the garment bag along with my dresses etc. It's pretty big and seems to hold quite a bit in addition to the items on hangers. We are each allowed 1 checked bag so I figured it could just be one of those 3 then I can put the rest of our stuff into 2 large duffles in the cubes & folders. :confused3

Annie:
You owe me $41 :rotfl2:
I just opened this thread this morning and decided to read.
I am like you but thought to myself, I do a heck of a great job packing in the suitcase and the zip locks. I thought the cubes would be just like packing in a big suitcase. BUT, then you showed me the pictures, gave great descriptions, my boss isn't at work and I had the time and decided to purchase the cubes :lmao:

Have a WONDERFUL trip to Europe. We have lots of vacations planned over the next two years so I am sure I'll get a lot of use out of them. I am going to start packing for my July 20 Disney and then cruise this weekend so really look forward to getting my cubes for my family of 4!
Thanks so much (I think LOL).

:lmao: ONLY $41?! :rotfl2: That sounds pretty good to me! BTW we have an Owners Locker now and literally only go to WDW in carry-ons now!! It is WONDERFUL!! :thumbsup2
(PS) I hope your boss doesn't read the DIS!! :rotfl:

That's what I was thinking only $41 :rotfl: HOW did you have the willpower to not get them for everyone? :confused3

Yeah, I think I'm going to order 3 sets of the 3 pack. do I need more? There are only 3 of us!

I'm having a hard time understanding the benefit of these. I see Annies pics (thank you for that) and I see how much she is able to fit in her DH carry size bag.

I have not tried to pack this much, nor have I had the need to, so I'm not an experienced packer in any sense. Do these cubes help you 'squish' more stuff in the same space (thinking of spacebags, where you suck the air out), or is more of just keeping it all confined in 'zones' inside the suitcase, allowing you to utilize the available space better?

I really wanted to see them first and see if I really like them. I figure I am leaving a litle less than a month. If I have by next weekend, I can see how much/little I like them and still have time to order. I so hope I love them.
Anything to be more organized. I am very organized now, with my cubes I can be a super hero like AA (Anal Annie) :lmao:

I was searching online for these packing cubes and have found a bunch of differant brands. Does anyone out there have a favorite brand they like or a brand they think I should stay away from?

The benefit for me is one of "sanity". DH's things are in his color cube and I have mine in another. After years of having him dig through our suitcase and making a mess, trying to find his socks or whatever, he lifts out his cube and makes whatever mess he wants, leaving my clothes still neat and tidy. Plus when we unpack, as others have stated, I just unzip the cube and place in the drawer. :lovestruc

I have the ebags toiletry kit (and the packing cubes, shoe sleeves, packing folder, . . .:goodvibes ). When the toiletry kit arrived I thought, no way is all my stuff going to fit in there, but I was wrong! There are a couple of places where you can unzip the bag to expand it a bit. It's nice to have a toiletry kit that isn't bulky. DH has one in a different color, and DS has the junior toiletry kit.

Oh, and I ordered the garment sleeve from ebags this morning!
